so many emotions on night one of the NBA draft and players now waiting to hear their name called in the second round of the NBA draft they’re with their families we’re about 20 minutes away from that happening on [Music] ESPN that of course means that the second round of the draft is just minutes away our draft expert Jonathan gavone is sparing a few minutes with us because we know he’s one of the busiest people in the world right now before picks start coming in um okay so before we start looking at round two what was your biggest surprise of round one Christine it had to be Rob Dillingham getting drafted and traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves it’s very rare that we see one of the best teams in the NBA make such an aggressive move to trade into the top 10 for a rookie point guard with Mike connley you know turning 37 in October the timber clearly have a need at point guard and I think they targeted Rob Dillingham to be their point guard of the future they saw what happened in the Western Conference Finals with Kyrie Irving the way that he dismantled their defense and they’re looking to draft their version of Kyrie Irving in Rob Dillingham yeah certainly a person that can be a little bit more effective offensively outside of Anthony Edwards Edwards excuse me uh what player are you most surprised is still on the draft board today Christine it has to be Kyle filipowski he was was invited to the green room for him to be sitting there all night and not hear his name called was very surprising he’s 7 ft tall he can dribble pass and shoot he was one of the best players in college basketball last year he’s battle tested he’s ready to play a role right away NBA teams are talking about the fact that they had question marks about uh his girlfriend being so much older than him why was he estranged from his family because of this whole situation he apparently doesn’t talk to uh his parents or or his brother and it’s a very very odd situation I personally don’t understand why he would cause him to drop like this into the second round there there obviously there are no question marks about his character but NBA teams are talking about his nerves and his workouts weren’t great and when they asked him about this situation in interviews that the the answers they got weren’t satisfactory for them so this Kyle filipowski situation is bizarre I think he’s going to be one of the first players to hear his name called tonight regardless his brother his twin brother plays basketball at Harvard and um I did talk to flip on the red carpet yesterday he seemed very confident so hopefully as you mentioned he does get called today all right the Lakers are picking at 55 if bronny James is their target can they afford to wait for him there I think they can I bet that a couple of NBA teams are going to try and test their nerves by saying hey we’re taking your guy give us a future second or two but ultimately I’m just not sure that it’s worth the drama that comes along with that one NBA GM I talked to today said if I draft uh bronnie James in the early 50s we might have helicopters from CNN with spotlights you know talking about a hostage situation so is that really worth it 48 hours before uh free agency starts you know damaging relationships and stuff like that I think NBA teams are going to let bony James get to 55 uh earlier Tim legler said that if anybody picks before they might call the Lakers and say I have your son what are you willing to give us for him we’ll see exactly what happens thank you so much JG thanks Christine all right before we get to round two let’s take a look back at last night with a top of the top from round one we saw of course some nice fits last night from Rob Dillingham who might be my favorite no uh Jared McCain is but Ron Holland Alex SAR Kean George and Donovan Clingan who honored his family and the back-to-back Champion Yukon Huskies all right Cody Williams and his older brother oh we’re still looking at the other guys by the way Kean George uh went to Universe Mi shout out KES there there’s a playing in right there all right now we got Cody Williams and his older brother Jaylen who aren’t new to celebrating at the draft that’s their handshake you remember last year they messed it up oh Cody was dancing with me on the red carpet too I feel like he was just practicing for that but there were some good handshakes Zach you got any handshakes no and I don’t have time for a handshake Jak that long these guys got to get busier it’s a lot uh modest buellis is heading to his home time of Chicago he talked to Monica mcnut a lot of emotion in this one take a listen I’m blessed man this what I wanted I wanted to be here I just can’t thank you to the Bulls organization I’m ready to work man I was BN for this isn’t that beautiful I mean honestly a lot of people were crying I honestly didn’t expect that out of him I don’t know why I think it’s still crying he was like that overjoy yeah and Zach Edie heard his name called surrounded by loved ones last night at his watch party he’s from Canada by the way but he might have dropped the album of the year as well look at this when the odds were taken off the board the Lakers were a minus 180 favorite to draft bronnie James no other team was even close in terms of their odds to draft bronny with the Suns nexts at plus 750 the Lakers have the 55th pick overall as we have said legs I’m going to start with you here do you think that the team any team other team we talked about this this morning other than the Lakers would draft bronnie James at 55 I don’t think so and I think he’s going to be there and I think they’re going to pick him and I think they should pick him if he’s there for for a variety of reasons I think at 55 and they need help now that’s going to be hard to find I mean you can find a player of 55 Wiggins for Oklahoma City was the 55th pick he’s in their rotation but it’s rare go back and look at the last 15 drafts at that pick so the chances of them getting a different guy guy that can help them now which is really what they need not likely so then why not take the guy that puts LeBron James in a better place mentally that’s that’s the how I look at it you’re also doing something historic I don’t have a problem with it look I don’t know if LeBron James is going to stick in the NBA I don’t know that he’s an NBA player right now his best bet be able to pick the ball up 75 fet and affect guys with pressure and be a playmaking guard at his size I don’t think he’s ever going to be a big score in the league do what uh Dave was just describing get in the paint and make people better he’s going to spend some time in the G League take him if he’s there that’s that’s what I think the Lakers should do so okay go ahead Z well no if you’re a team that’s ahead of the Lakers and bronny James is number one on your board when you the pick comes to you and you think he’s the best pick take him don’t take him because you’re going to try to pull some Shenanigans with LeBron and the Lakers and get an extra second round picks and this and that and if he’s there for the Lakers and they think it’s works out for them take him and I think it would be a cool story my my heart gets a little warm I got to say like normally I’m cold and icy and calculated it would be kind of cool it would be kind of cool to see a father and son play together don’t pull back the curtain on yourself like that everybody let’s let’s see what happens but no no Shenanigans don’t think you’re going to outsmart the Lakers and play some chess here look the Lakers want Brun to resign the the the the contract if he decides to opt out that okay Brony one of his name uh get called in in the draft and BR want to play with his son right kill it all at once draft him at 55 everyone’s happy I do want to know CU we were talking about the fact that flip wasn’t uh there in the b-roll that we showed of uh the draft room now LeBron also wasn’t there LeBron James Jr or Lebron James so I mean I feel like that has some Credence if the Lakers were going to draft bronny I feel like LeBron James would know no well the thing is they can’t control happens in front of them though oh that’s true yeah that’s the only thing that they then he means that means he’s guaranteed to get drafted so then there’s still a reason for them to be there true um okay so we could see the next NBA All-Star picked today as 45 second round picks in the modern draft era have gone on to make an All-Star team but the question here perk who is the best one I think it’s time for big perks big list of best second round selections look Zack then Ben he’s been here before for a big list legs this your first time this is not your list Christine legs this is not your list this is not Zack low list this is my list big perks big list of best second round picks in NBA history now oldheads are going to get mad at me damn it I don’t give a damn it’s my list Bam put it up there number five big body Bronson Jaylen Bronson do you see what he’s doing right now for the New York Knicks they haven’t been this relevance since Patrick y they had 50 a 50 win season he’s making noise and he’s and he’s still got a lot more to go when it go when it’s all said and done jayen Bronson is going to be the best Nick best player to ever put on a Nick uniform Zack L Year four time five times he better have been on this Champion I was coming across table doing his thing right could have been a starter but when you talk about the Euro Step you think about Mono bringing that to America okay coming to number three legs let me see what you got let me get you put it up there I love it Draymond Green underrated when you talk about one of the best defenders ever he’s that change the game small ball could defend one through five four time NBA champion has done it at the high level you know one uh Olympics four time NBA Allstar Christine is on you bam Denis robman the worm two-time defensive player of the year I believe it was what four or five Allstars no two time Allstar I mean listen he just doing he did his thing seven time rebounding champ just one of one and that number one Bam put it up there that’s right Nicole Yas The Joker MVP Finals MVP conference all that it’s still all good look his commercial I mean because that’s what he do that’s what
