PISTONS SURPRISE, PICK RON HOLLAND! HIRE DENNIS LINDSEY AS VP! CLAXTON AND MONK RESIGN !

welcome to the Piston fanatic I’m your host Dave Dalton and I’m excited to share my passion and perspective of our Detroit Pistons as we go on this Fantastic Voyage together I’ve been a DieHard piston fan since the days of Dave Bing and Bob laner I’ve also been the varsity basketball coach of a very successful program in northern Michigan thank you so much for listening please hit that subscribe button and like it and we made our pick with the number five pick your Detroit Pistons picked Ron Holland out of the g-league ignite and quite a surprise Ron Holland was projected I think to go probably anywhere between 8 and 12 I’m guessing but you know again like I talked before this draft above any draft I’ve ever watched there was such a variance a lot of players were projected you know seven picks apart but my guess is that when people break down and give a grade for the draft that the Pistons will not get a good grade my dream scenario was and it could have I thought it was going to come true kingan was available at the number five pick I thought somebody for sure was going to trade down and give us a couple another extra first round pick and we would trade back and then we would be able to get one of the players that I like like Tan Salon or um mat Sabella Mattis pelis and or even Ron Holland if it was like the 14th pick but anyway that’s who we got Ron Holland is 6 foot7 he is a freak athlete he plays his butt off every night he plays really hard some people said that his defense wasn’t that great this year even though he played hard but he is he attacks theim he’s going to be a Duncan on everybody he we’re probably gonna lead the league in dunks probably not in three-point percentage but hopefully Fred Vincent can work his magic with Ry Holland so Ry Holland averaged 20.6 points a game in the g- league which is impressive 6.6 rebounds 3.2 assists two and a half steals which is outstanding but he shot 44% from the floor and 24% on threes and 76% on free throw so the other thing that I I was wanting is to get um why I wanted buellis or um Salon was because they’re they’re 610 and so we have you know Pono is about 67 and assar is about 67 and Holland is 67 so we got you know these six all guys are six seven I know some of them could play the two sum but then I guess what are you going to do with Ivy then and some I’m sure they’re going to be playing some at the four but it just is interesting obviously um trean Langdon thought he was a great player and a lot of people did John Hollinger had him as his number one player coming into the season Ron Holland was projected to be the number one pick in the draft coming out of high school he was ranked number two in the ESPN top 100 so he has you know Talent it’s just the concern is that we have so many non-shooters but Treon knows that and obviously maybe Fred Vinson is convinced that he can get a shot better and that obviously they like to have somebody that I’m sure the word is going to be in the press conference how tough and competitive he is and they want those type of players on our team so um we’ll see what happens so there’s some comparisons his comparison that a lot of people were throwing out there was Jaylen Brown who was most valuable player of the NBA finals for the Boston Celtics and he came out of C California and he was not a polished player he is not nothing close to the player very similar to Ron Holland he might have hand Ron Holland I think has better handles coming out of college than Jaylen Brown did and so they must project that he will be able to make those improvements and he’s um he was also real tough but and he wasn’t that great of shooter Jaylen Brown was coming out of college so we’ll see what happens Anthony Edwards Anthony Edwards was number one player picked his year but he he was a bad three-point shooter his percentage was terrible but a lot of it was he he took terrible shots all the time so that’s pick pick down and see what um what the latest thing is so anyway number one pick in the draft was rishe who I in January that’s who I thought and H the Pistons were going to get I hoped we would get the number one pick or a high pick pick and that we would get to draft him because he he’s 69 and can shoot the ball and then SAR was picked second he’s freak athlete he great on defense real active with some upside number three was Reed Shepard the lights out shooter from Kentucky 61 only in his without his shoes on and then Stefan Castle who’s not a great shooter either but he’s a really really tough Defender and I wasn’t quite sold on him but he is he he is gonna be a great player I’m convinced he will be but he’s again he’s like the the might be 65 he’s not that big so then was then the Pistons take Ron Holland and then really freaky things happened ton Salon who I loved um and he’s raw he’s really raw so he wouldn’t be probably won’t be where he’s gonna be for a year or so but he got picked six by the Hornets so that was really surprising and then um seventh Clingan fell to seventh so he’s going to go to Portland and Portland took him seventh and they’ve got um DeAndre Aton as their Center so that that was fascinating but he aton’s can score inside but he doesn’t block shots then Dillingham was picked by uh the Spurs who a lot of people thought he might get picked by the Spurs but he got picked by the Spurs but then they traded him to um they traded him to the Timberwolves for a unprotected first round pick in the future so that’s going to be interesting to see what that H how that plays out so uh real quick we’re going to talk about some guys you know we we a lot of piston fans thought we might be able to get um Nick Claxton he was an unrestricted free agent great rim protector good lob threat and but and I thought for sure we might get him because I thought after the Nets traded away um Mel Bridges to the Knicks that they were rebuilding so they might not want to sign him to a big contract but I almost think that he got underpaid uh at a 100,000 I think that if he hit the market he would have made over four years he probably would have made at least 20 thou $20 million more which I don’t know maybe he doesn’t want to play for the Pistons either so in the draft um 2020 Draft when we selected kilan Hayes we had the seventh pick and my draft board for my Pistons was Tes halberton was first on my list Denny Adia was second on my list and then NE okang was my third on my list and and we picked Killian so um but anyway IA just got traded to Portland and Portland gave up firstr round draft picks to get Danny ABIA and you know he was a guy that some speculation was the Pistons might end up trying to get him so there’s a lot of Trades happening right now um but we got to see what happens so now and I’m blanking on the niick center he’s um going to be a free agent the Knicks just signed ogan anobi and they got got to pay Mel Bridges and so they got all these and they’re going to have to resign or um extend um some of their players so that’s going to be real hard Jaylen brunson’s got to be extended so so they don’t think that they might be able to sign um for their big Center so I don’t know why I’m blanking on his name so anyway he might be available to the Pistons if we decide to take a center I still think that tran uh said that he’s going to tr take things slow and I just still hope at least so now if we get my guy nji Marshall he’s 67 so then we’ll have four four six7 guys so maybe we’re not gonna go after nji Marshall maybe he already knows we can’t get nji Marshalls or he doesn’t think that he wants Naji Marshall that’s I guess what can be going on there I don’t know but um my big thing that will ruin my summer is if Tran trades Quinton Grimes to the Mavericks for Tim Hardway Jr and I’m sure there’s going to be other pieces to that trade you know I don’t but I I just don’t think that the I think that the Mavs traded like every first they traded a first- round pick to get Gafford and then they traded a first- round pick to get the guy from Charlotte that played for Boston that’s I don’t know anyway they used up another first- round pick so I don’t think they have any assets to trade hardly to us so unless they have want to trade us one of their young players so I think our front office is awesome I think I still believe in trejan I’m GNA have to trust him on on this but Dennis Lindsay we got is he’s technically our general manager but his title is senior vice president of basketball operations so but he’s gonna you got to think of him as being the general manager so he’s second in command and then we got these other guys one guy we got Blackstone he’s a salary cap manager and then we got another guy so I just think that he’s formed a real good front office and um Dennis Lindsay was with Tran when they were both young with the Spurs when the Spurs went two titles they were working you know they were like lower jobs in the front office for the Spurs but lots of guys from the Spurs have gone on to be really good at coaching and front office jobs so like I said unlike um guys that are assistant coaches for the New England Patriots for under bellich they end up being bad coaches just there’s not one of them turned out to be good but hopefully Dennis Lindsay he Not only was with the Spurs but then he went to he was instrumental in assembling Utah team that really good team they they made it to the finals Western Conference Finals they they had a great team they had like at least two years they had the best record in the West when he with the Jazz with Mitchell and goar and he was the one that put that team together so then this past year he’s been an adviser for the Mavericks and the Mavericks have made some good moves again we don’t know what exactly um how much input on those guys we don’t know who behind the scenes does what exactly so anyway we got a lot to look forward to still we got free agencies right around the corner there’s being a lot of Trades made we’ll see if the Pistons make any we have all that cap space we can take on bad contracts I’m just hoping we get assets because there’s a lot of there a lot of Trades been made already for draft picks I want us you know we we have to get draft picks we have to try to get some more first round picks somehow and I don’t know who has them that would be willing to trade them but we’ll just have to wait and see so anyway thank you for listening I hope you make somebody else’s day better and go Pistons

Unexpectedly draft 6’7″ Ron Holland 24% three point shooter with the fifth pick!

  1. They say he's really quick, we'll maybe? but quickness does not always translate, and slower players can be superstars like Luka. He probably be a good scorer to the rim as he is aggressive and athletic.

He has a very poor outside shot consistency, but in my opinion good form.

He should excellent in defense and solid rebounder.

For me you need trade either him or Asar in a package w 2 wings.

My Pic was Zack Edy 1st, Clingan 2nd. Actually ide be fired as a GM taken Edy number one if it was only way I could get him. He is going to shock people if he gets his minutes.

  2. While many Pistons fans, myself included, may be disappointed with this fifth pick, I believe there’s more to consider. The current front office likely has a strategic plan we’re not yet aware of. They must ensure this plan is successful, as failure could lead to significant consequences.

  3. a very bold statement im making!!! butafter watching tape on Holland he reminded me of someone n then i watch a young kobe ..and even thou i didnt like pick, but Holland reminds me of a very young kobe especially attacking the net ,defensively, and athletic dawg…. …b4 anyone comments i no theirs only 1 kobe but watch tapes ..

  4. I wonder if Claxton is going to be a sign and trade. I like Holland. Hopefully the shot comes around. Seems like the pistons still gotta make a move to get a PF

  5. I'm sorry, but what I see is Stanley Johnson the 2nd in our pick.
Cade needs spacing and Holland does not provide that. The Pistons are too worried about filling the seats around the conference table, and not concerned enough with the team on the floor. I hope future moves will be with the TEAM in mind.

  6. Trajan Langdon has ensured us of yet another lottery level team this forthcoming season. Holland is 18 years-old and will require 6-years to progress.

  7. Stan VanLangdon has been here a few days and look what's happened so far.
Weaver who straightened the money and picks out…gone.
Williams gets fired for not taking his G league team to the play-offs…gone.
Now he has drafted another Ausar. Can't shoot (a little, better handle).

  8. The kid might end up being good. But he can’t shoot. His shots not completely broken like asur but Cody Williams is the same player but can shoot. Idk what we are going to do about floor spacing.

  9. This is the way of the new NBA–athletic wings. I'm not upset about the pick; Langdon knows basketball and is the second highest scorer at Duke after JJ Reddick so maybe he and Fred saw something they feel they can develop in him with the shooting aspect. Also, the Hayes pick over Halliburton was a Tellum decision. Weaver wanted Halliburton. Let's see how it plays out…I'm keeping a positive attitude.
