and I’m Keith Pompei and we are the co-hosts of lock on 76ers I didn’t get back into the crib until 3 working hard huh working hard for the money working hard for the pennies so hard for the pennies y that’s the one old song I know but it was hard for the money though summer right summer summer yeah a crush on her back in the day yeah a lot of people did a lot of people did but anyway so so anyway look the Sixers there a lot of guys they could have gone with they stayed pack they the one guy that they were linked to in several mocks towards the end was uh Jared mccan and guess what they got him yeah and it’s and they they picked him up but there were some guys available like there were guys on the board that were bigger older certain guys who felt like um had a bigger upside you I mean excuse me guys it felt like were more NBA ready at this time but the Sixers felt like his blend of um fulfilling the need his upside they feel like he’s someone that that can play now is he going to be a starter right right right away no they don’t they don’t Envision that but they stuck with him but uh so we’ll talk about that in the first segment the second segment we got to talk about what’s happening with free agency you know Paul George is saying that he wants to stay um on the west coast um the Golden State Warriors now are um trying to make a trade for him right um and and then you know like it’s then look at OG on anobi I mean everybody was all excited uh when when when Mel Bridges uh got his deal and then next thing you know with the with the Knicks and now all of a sudden OG staying so there’s a lot of things that’s going on there’s a lot of uh you know I don’t know it just seems like stuff is dwindling for the sixes so we got a lot to talk about but man let me ask you your thoughts on that first round draft pick man we know Keith I mean okay he’s uh he’s a scorer he’s a scorer and he is a shooter uh I’m okay with it you know and and what I do like about it you know is that he really started to play well really you know started look like that five star recruit out of California at the end of the um at the end of his uh his college his his freshman year you know he put up those two 30o games in the tournament he had that one game I think it was against JMU where he shot the ball very well uh from three yeah yeah 8411 from from behind the arc um and and it’s beond you know if you have a player like Jo lmb what you want to do is have sh I mean how long have we been saying this man you got to have shoot you have to surround him with Shooters uh I think people are are wrong to look at the NBA draft now and to say well you’re drafting the starter because you know even if you know maybe maybe in the lottery maybe in the lottery you’re drafting the starter um but but the level of talent has gone down um you know and you know what you attribute that to is a conversation for a different day but I think you know he’s he’s a guy he he doesn’t show very many point guard Tendencies and he’s 62 62 and a half six maybe 63 and sneakers um so it’s going to be hard almost you know impossible to Envision him playing Maxi a long time at least early in his career so uh I I’m okay with it you know the guys like the Sila who was still on the board and connect and I did like him I did like him um another shooter so you weren’t getting anything you know you weren’t you weren’t going to get a uh you know a Hall of Fame player there but think you have a piece and and Lord knows the Sixers have right now they have fewer pieces than anybody in the league so they and they need pieces yeah I’m G be honest with you I was when when I saw connect uh dropping the way that he did I was a little was a little shocked I mean at that particular point I mean because it got to a point where you know it’s funny um because there was like 10 guys that I did a lot of research on guys who I felt like the 76ers could draft I want to like know their background I want to do this I’ve written articles about those guys right connect was wasn’t one of them so it’s like you see him drop and then you like oh man let me like while the draft is going on I’m like at that one point I wanted him to pause the draft so I can like read up as much about him and see things and you know from what everything I’m saying is like I’m hearing I’m reading it’s like yo this guy is NBA ready you know he you know he’s you know older 23 yeah can shoot that thing he could do all that other stuff that progression you like to see in players yeah yeah yeah all and I’m looking at him like he can come in and when they didn’t get him was shot and then the fact that you know he went next pick to the Lakers and then the Silva went the following pick after that to you know to Orlando so you’re like wow and um but and then you your initial thoughts are and that’s a small back court you can’t play those two you can’t play M and you can’t play Maxi together they’re gonna get abused on the defensive then and then I start doing some research about him as well and talk about what what a tough player he is um and then I remembered oh that’s right that’s the kid that played against Canon see a lot of people was thinking about and initially when they first drafted him I wasn’t thinking about how many threes he can make I started I mean I was thinking about like you know what I always thought about was his social media presence yeah the fingernails because you know he paints his fingernails all that uh the all that stuff yeah and it’s funny not you ain’t with it right somebody said yesterday yeah he’s a trend Setter he’s going to have people in Philly painting their fingernails I’m like nah bro a like that I said Philly the only I said Philly the place I know where dudes like normally they see Star players and they saying nah man James Harden take that take that is off we don’t rock like that I said n you ain’t gonna have dudes painting finger nail because this guy has his fing not here not here no yeah no that’s not n that ain’t happening no no no but but anyway but then you looked at and I remember so I’m like d that’s right he uh he did beat Camden and he he him and uh DJ Wagner were going back and forth in the second half you know it was a game he had six he made six of 10 threes um it was it was a game where he scored 17 of his 27 points in the second half and he got game MVP they beat him by you know Camden was loaded and they ended up beating them by three points so you know but again he’s undersized guard you know we’ll see in regards to like upside he does have one like you said he can shoot that rock too yeah um you know but he seems like a a great personality now Daryl Mory did say that he’s a guy that you know they feel like he can play Early um they also feel like he’s going to be in Philadelphia for a long time so typically when people say stuff like that you’re like uh oh bro you going to get traded before um before the season starts but we we’ll see we’ll see we’ll see yeah I thought I thought they were going to develop Springer and you know you see where that went so yeah exactly exactly that’s the thing but again you know we’ll see you never know how these things are going to uh turn out pan out but I will say this interviewing him yesterday was was kind of refreshing like he was seems to be a great kid um you know easy to deal with I mean he was out there doing Tik Tock for media members and everything which you know I was a little Blown Away by like but that’s his personality so we’ll see man we’ll we’ll definitely see yeah and what I like about before we go and you talk about the game time I I I mean I like that he’s offensively aggressive man because you going that’s that’s his that’s his Forte and he he didn’t deny it towards the end of the season he was very offensively aggressive and that’s going to be his thing um that’s going that’s going to help him uh in the NBA so and we can talk a mean so it’s like yeah they it’s F you know that’s proba that’s got to be a nice place to be a professional athlete man yeah yeah yeah that NBA need to hurry up but here’s a dude here the deal so I’m definitely going to go to game time I got I’m definitely we G yeah we gonna get a group rate yeah so so that’s what we’ll do but but look man the thing about it is you know Paul George with the words coming out that uh the the Golden State Warriors are interested now now that means something it doesn’t mean something because it’s like they gotta trade them you know you did hear some stuff that uh golden state is sniffing around contacting teams saying what would it take I mean I mean what do you want for him or whatever this and that um and you don’t know then uh if if if he and Paul in the team could come to an agreement but he’s also saying he wants to stay out west so that’s the situation then we talked about it before OG right it’s a lot Jimmy Butler like well you know he’s not gonna get an extension he wants to stay um you know I is weird it just seems like all the guys that they could could get they or they would prefer to get they’re not going to be able to get second here’s the second part of that like it looks like it’s setting up to be honest with you more and more for them to go out and get a Brandon Ingram type guy or someone of a lesser quality right but Brandon Ingram is a good player but to me that’s not the headline player but it’s just it just Mitch it just appears like that’s that market may be drying up for the Sixers that big game hunting yeah man it’s a it’s a bad year it’s a bad time to have this much unfortunately this much cash Bas available and the market to be so either I either picked over or or picky you know guys you got guys saying we got Paul George I want to stay on the west coast I mean listen for that kind of money I play ins IIA bro you know so it’s like then again I’m not Paul George my my wallet’s not like his wallet but um yeah you know and the Knicks acted very quickly the conversation got out that OG wasn’t happy well he’s get $212 million later he’s happy he’s very very happy in New York so um you know you’re hearing that Paul if there is interest in Golden State I mean hey man you know go play for a championship Squad uh you know go play alongside alongside step some things you know that’s not that’s not bad guy to play alongside and does it I mean what does it do then did did they um who the Clippers replace did did the Clippers go after Demar the Rosen it just seems like right now as we as we with the walk up to the free agent signing period um that people are kind of like that team in Philadelphia I don’t know Dar moris not draw you know you know I don’t know if I want to play with Joel andb you know when is when is joeel andb gonna be the magnet they’re in some they’re in a situation where you know this this you know just don’t I I don’t want to hear something like somebody mentioned Klay Thompson’s name as a potential 76 you don’t want that no I’m not with I’m not with that at all man you know I mean I’ve seen some guys look bad and you know you know God bless him he had a great career was a great shooter um but but the defense that was once this Hallmark is gone you know and sometimes clay just was just out there this past season so so I’m not feeling him yeah I also feel like he he has The Misfortune because everybody’s trying to compare his situation to Draymond and compare his situation to um Wiggins but Wiggins is way younger than um yeah Draymond is like it happened a couple years earlier so when you look at you look at clay and and you I know he was the Splash Brothers but he’s getting older man like he’s getting older and he’s coming off that injury so it’s kind of like you know the timing is wrong for him to come up with the with that this contract thing and like you say he did lose a lot but and that’s the thing like if you’re the 76ers it’s kind of like okay well we got y’all a allar a future Hall of Famer but then the people in Philly gonna be like but bruh like you got it it came like a several years too late it’s Chris Weber it’s not as bad as see was but it’s it’s look it has the look Chris Weber on it and it’s crazy part is and like and I’m not making a knock out of them or knock on them and Daryl had nothing to do with this or anything like this but it’s kind of like and they played well last year before they were traded but it’s kind of like Marcus Morris and Patrick Bev it was like they went out and got those dudes but you’re saying to yourself D if you would have got them three or four years earlier yeah would have been rolling know so it’s kind of like that but but this one is like yeah maybe he can like find a find something but at the same time it’s like you know you go from big game hunting yeah to you we gonna take this guy and hope and pray that he has something left in the tank you know I mean and it’s Thanksgiving food on Sunday you know what it is yeah it’s Thanksgiving on Sunday the crispy you know the crispy part of the mac and cheese is gone let me ask you this but is it on a sandwich like do you take the turkey and for May bro you’re looking for the Mayo you remember back in the day when certain kids it was like Thanksgiving and then on Monday morning yeah I packed lunch today and they got this this big old sandwich that that for kids it’s great because it replaces the peanut butter and jelly but you know yes it’s warmed up collar greens which I can eat for we anyway but yeah yeah the dag on um cranberry sauce smell like refrigerator right right yeah maybe maybe they need to pass maybe they need because G tell you what but I’m G tell you this they gotta get it right because B off based off of the reactions yeah of last night you I mean you would have thought that Daryl myay cursed out somebody’s mom yeah because they seeing all this other you know stuff happening and don’t get me wrong the draft no I mean no one knows like they had so many euros and so many like d like yo like who’s that guy like you know this so it’s hard to to project but I think that a lot of people the fact that OG you’re hearing the stuff about Paul hearing the stuff about uh James you know even down at Demar may go and and and and go to the Clippers you know all this stuff is happening and you know people are like what’s going on with the Sixers like what’s going on and they bringing up last year and all that stuff so you know it’s one of those things where the Sixers planned on doing their shopping at Wegman’s and now they’re at Aldi you know they all these no yeah man like you can’t they I don’t know if they quite at all these yet they might at me they might be at AC me but I don’t I would hope about the second round so the second round is one of those things where um you know there a couple guys that could have been on that board that they really liked um but you know that the big guy what’s his name uh what’s the guy the guy from duke K Kyle flowski yeah him yeah you know a guy like that yeah he I mean that so when you get guys like he could be I mean do you you know he could be someone that can fulfill a need for them you know what I mean could be he could be you know but but there’s other guys who see my thing is you already have now you got a guard um do you need another small guard I mean what what do you do like I mean what type of approach if you’re the 76ers what’s the approach that you take in the second round yeah I I think the um to keep it simple I think you get somebody who you think can be a contributor early um you know and as you look at the people who are who are you know somewhere in that range I see um you know uh you know maybe you do you here’s here’s one for you do you consider the kid from motep Justin Edwards do you bring him home or do you say nah 20 years old bringing him to Philly is is is just not a good idea um you know there’s all so you know um it’s a lot of guys young a lot of guys who were younger who were still out there you know do you consider I he keep hearing the name Johnny Fury Johnny Fury the Kansas kid um but he’s also another young one um you know maybe you bringing filipowski I mean listen listen again with this draft right now here in the second round I think you are at Aldi right about now you know you know you’re not you might be with that second pick um you know again the guy I’m disappointed because I thought Justin Edward coming out you know everybody saying he’s top one top two player in the nation and um now you find out that he wasn’t anywhere near the top well you knew he wasn’t because of how he played at Kentucky but you know is he a guy that you make a move for you know I I don’t know I I didn’t see a lot for him I know he had the one game where he blew up for 28 points and then he went back in hobit ation so um you know I think I think the mindset has to be you go ahead and get a guy who you think can contribute and possibly be a rotational guy you know I think you know if you go eight deep you would like to get well you you want your number one guy to be in in the top age so you know there’s so many opportunities here they just have to they need to go out and get somebody who can make a contribution now who that person is the just don’t know okay so here’s my thing Tristan Newton the Connecticut point guard two-time NCA Champion first team allamerican was named the most outstanding player the final four you know I mean he participated in a pre-draft workout with the Sixers a week ago right a week ago today and um you know that was his that was his 13th of f te workout schedule now the thing about this guy is Newton he uh he uh averaged 15.1 points 6.6 rebounds 6.2 assists right this past season he finished with two triple doubles and 11 double doubles and route to finishing um and well his 11th double double um you know uh he had uh 20 points uh seven assists um to lead Yukon to well that was a different game but he had that but in this season he led Yukon um excuse me in the championship game he had 20 points and seven assists in the to over Purdue uh in the 75 to 60 victory in the championship so you know he’s a guy who originally committed to East Carolina following High School um he played for the pirates for three seasons and entered the transfer portal and then start started 38 out of 39 games uh his first uh season at Yukon and then took off from there so yeah I mean he’s a guy that cons worth considering yeah yeah again he’s a guy that they brought in and near familiar with um I think some thought he might have gone earlier than that you know that he would that he wouldn’t be hanging around so um you know yes so they gotta get some they you know get it seems like that pick at 41 you’re just getting the body because it’s kind of the pickings are slim um but I’m kind of in the mindset you you took a young guy at number 16 now take another young guy who who you think can play or you think you can turn into a player um or or maybe you know maybe who knows maybe they package that second round pick I’m not sure you know
