Houston Rockets Get MUCH NEEDED EXPLOSIVE SHARPSHOOTER From NBA Draft

now I’ve been doing YouTube seriously now and looking at the game of basketball through a different L since about 2021 and my Detroit Pistons were kind of on the same rebuilding timeline as the Houston Rockets So the Houston Rockets have been a team that I’ve played um paid close attention to over these last couple years and I think they just done a terrific job in the off season and especially during the NBA draft we look at some of their picks since the year 2021 um they got Jaylen green and Prince and goon That season the following year in 2022 they were able to get Jabari Smith Jr and also tar um T een later in the first round and then last year 2023 they were able to get amen Thompson and they were also able to get Cam Whitmore and I think what all of these players have in common those six players that that we just named all six of those guys have a really solid floor and all of them have a really really high SST so I think the Houston Rockets theyve done a great job drafting those six guys they have a really good core and last year we saw them go in free agency and they spend some money on some pretty good NBA NBA veterans in my opinion I think Fred Van Fleet he was an NB he’s an he’s an NBA champion he’s been an Allstar in this league before um and he has a ton a ton experience that’s that’s very beneficial for a young team same thing with um Dylan Brooks I know a lot of his peers a lot of NBA fans think he is overrated but he brings a lot of stuff um he brings something that that is very rare in today’s NBA and that’s pure tenacity on the defensive side of the ball so with that happening for the Houston Rockets getting all of this Talent um also getting coach e udoka adding these veterans they were in a position or last season they were very competitive and they had a pretty decent shot to make the playoffs and if we’re being honest um last year the Houston Rockets towards the beginning of the season they were like I want to say that they they had a playoff spot in the Western Conference then some injuries happened to Fred Van fleed um they kind of struggled when he went out same thing with Alin singon and also when singon was out they did find a stride where Jaylen green was playing incredible so they found the Silver Lining with him and although they didn’t make the playoffs a lot of positives for the Houston Rockets last season so here we are in this draft where um they get the third overall pick which was originally going to go to the Brooklyn Nets but due to that James Harden trade it goes to the Houston Rockets So now here we are in the present the 2024 NBA draft the Houston Rockets are in a little bit of a different position they’re not at the beginning of that rebuilding um phase where they have to draft the best available player now they’re looking at a player that’s going to fit their system pretty well and that’s exactly what they found in the 2024 NBA draft with drafting Reed Shepard from the University of Kentucky and before we get into the strengths and the weaknesses of Reed Shepard I just wanted to address some of the things that the Houston Rockets um some things that I personally think they that they could get better at during this period of time in the off season and I’ve seen everybody saying this one thing is their three-point shooting and I agree 100% last year the Houston Rockets did rank 23rd in the NBA when it came to three-point shooting so more pure Shooters and more three-point shooting is something that the Houston Rockets could definitely add to that roster and then another thing I’ve seen just from watching Houston Rockets play I think they need another additional body in their front court and preferably a big man I know when alrin and goon went down with his ankle injury last year they had to move Jabari Smith Jr to that Five Spot which did work out um it wor it worked wonders for them on the offensive side of the ball their flow of offense and their spacing was Elite and we saw them going on a crazy winning streak but nonetheless that’s what I see with um that’s those are the two things I think the Houston Rockets need to focus on some addition size to their front court or additional bodies to their front court and then also um three-point shooting and with Reed Shepard they check one of those boxes um and that’s Street Point shooting now Reed sheper he’s a six Street Guard from the University of Kentucky I like to consider him a combo guard um watching his highlights and watching him play in college he did a lot of playing on the ball and a lot of playing off the ball and he’s just uh he’s just a really good really good basketball player I know we talked about we talked about earlier H the Houston Rockets over the last few years they were kind of drafting guys that were best available with super high super high ceilings and then in this draft we kind of see them do something different um and I’m not saying that Reed Shepard can’t be an Allstar in this league one day any player has that any player has that um any player has that possibility to them in my opinion but Reed Shepard the reason he was drafted to the Houston Rockets was his ability to fit with this current roster and his three-point shooting is going to allow allow him to do that and that’s the best part of his game you look at him play he has a really pretty form he jumps really high off the ground with his jump shot and his release point is really high when I watch him shoot catch and shoot shoot off the dribble it kind of his release kind of reminds me a little bit of of Klay Thompson but Reed Shepard like I said I look at him like a combo guard with the basketball in his hands he has the ability to put the ball on the floor he can run the two-man game he’s a very unselfish player he does not four shots that’s something em udoka is going to love he has no problem coming off the basketball if he has nothing available a three level score um really crafty really not not a super strong not a super strong finisher but a very crafty finisher has the high glass layup with both hands knows how to finish on his inside hand on the opposite side that’s very important for a guard especially when you have guys chasing behind you trying to block the shot he has the mid-range game and as we establish he can knock down that three-point shot so and Reed sheper he doesn’t just pass the ey test but he passed the numbers test as well during his 10e at Kentucky averaged 12 points per game but he was supremely efficient from the field 52% from the field overall and then from three-point range he shot 53% so the numbers are there for Reed Shepard as well the attitude his morale he’s a very low ego player so this is like this this is like a perfect this is a perfect draft pick for the situation that the Houston Rockets are in right now and and defensively I know he’s only 63 and we live in an era in today’s game where um Team see a player that’s that’s shorter than 6’4 65 out there they’re going to try to Target them on the defensive side of the ball that’s literally what I want to say what 80% of teams do nowadays they try to find the mismatch for their best perimeter player and and allow them to to go to work on an isolation but in college Reed Shepard um he’s a he’s a guy is engaged on the defensive side of the ball he can make big plays he even led the SEC in steals last season so he is a locked in and engage and an in an Engaged Defender and if teams are hunting them hunting him he’s definitely going to make them work for their bucket so I’m looking at Reed Shepard um I think him and the man Thompson is going to be that backourt off the bench for the Houston Rockets and I think it’s going to is going to add some much needed boost to that second unit like we said his ability to knock down that three point shot it’s actually going to be very fun to watch him and um amen Thompson together I’m a huge fan of Amen Thompson both the Thompson Twins I have we have the other one on the Detroit Pistons but I say I got to say this in every single Houston Rockets video um it’s something about the way a man Thompson moves pause something about the way he moves as a basketball player is um is so mesmerizing like every like I just want to see the ball in his hands a lot more he has this perfect he has this perfect mix of like swag craftiness and explosiveness when he has the basketball in his hands and I don’t really think I’ve ever seen anything like it he’s just a he’s just a super athlete with the basketball in his hands but nonetheless this makes um 2021 2022 2023 two four NBA drafts where I think the Houston Rockets have just done um an out an outstanding job and I and I’m not sure what else the Houston Rockets have cooking up right now I know I I I’ve seen um they traded they traded some of their Brooklyn Nets or all of their Brooklyn Nets assets back to the Brooklyn Nets and they’re looking to make a big splash and we’ll probably make a separate video on that but I just hope I really hope me personally it’s not for it’s not for Kevin Durant and I’m and I think Kevin Durant is a dog he’s a walking bucket but he’s only shown that he could get a championship with with other superstars around him on a super team so I’m not sure if I wouldn’t want to go out and trade for a 36 year old Kevin Durant when you have all these young components constantly getting better if I’m the Houston Rockets I would try to stay a little bit more patient but that’s a subject for a different day um I like this draft pick a lot just to go over Reed Reed Shepard just to summarize him he’s a 63 combo guard University of Kentucky lights out three-point shooter 53% from the field in his collegiate rear he can do it off the catch he can do it off the dribble and he also has range he’s a good like basketball player if we were going to the to the to the to the gym he would be a guy that that would get picked up first he makes the right play he doesn’t miss open shots and he had like we he’s low he’s a low ego player so this is a great pickup for the Houston Rockets um making these videos are always super fun for me so I hope you guys enjoyed if you did enjoy please leave a like comment down below how do you feel about what the Houston Rockets did with the number three um 1. really wanted to bring this up in the vid but forgot!! reed has a 42 inch vertical, tied with two other players for highest in the draft

  2. You’ve been consistently good whenever I check your vids out, bro. Just subscribed, keep up the great job and content.

SN: that AJ Griffin trade could be sneaky nice for HOU also. Reed is already one of the greatest shooters I’ve ever seen from a form and clutch standpoint. Scrappy defender too, love the fit with FVV to show him the ropes.

  3. His biggest challenge will be his defense. Houston does switch a lot on defense, but he will be coming off the bench during his rookie season, he should be ok.
