Was hoping he would stay, but I guess they must have known he was probably leaving. Can anyone weigh in on the cap implications of this?

He could have given us a chance. he’d have gotten the minutes.

now we need to find a FA for our backup PF spot

  3. That’s too bad. I was excited to see him get a chance.

Damn. Oh well. Was interested to see how things would look.

How likely was he to do this prior to the trade. I hope TO and Raps fans dont take this personally. I am assuming we retain his rights if he want to return?

Easy to see he want to play >20 minutes a night not <10 minutes. He played 5 years at Olympiacos so seems like a good fit for him.

    Wishing him good health.

I guess he thought he wouldn’t get enough minutes here and wants to play a lot of basketball while he’s in his prime. I thought the situation with the Raptors would have been perfect for him but now it just opens up a spot for other guys to get more minutes which is the good thing.

Raptors 4/5 right now is Barnes (even though he can play the 2/3 as well), Poeltl, Olynyk, Mogbo, Chomche (who will be on the 905 basically all year) and Boucher (who won’t see many minutes). Either Mogbo is going to get giant opportunities right away as the backup 4 or the Raptors are going to sign someone.

Sportando is not the most reliable of sources out there.

There are 3 different Italian journalists that have reported the same story today, and all 3 of them have had a very mixed record.

So far there are no news out of neither Greece (from Olympiacos reporters) nor from Toronto. It’s a bit weird that Italian reporters are breaking this story.

Take all of this with a grain of salt, is what I’m saying. We’ll have something official soon.

Nobody has really reported on this yet so I wouldn’t jump the gun.

The hype reaction to the trade was pretty wrong. Yes we lost McDaniels but look now Veznekov not even playing and Davion Mitchell is a net negative – an undersized and inefficient player who will likely be cut at some point. When Fox went down he sucked royally and the Kings gave up on him. The legit only good thing is we get Jamal Shead out of it.

Anyone smarter than me know if Patrick Williams is attainable at the full MLE or Bulls likely to retain? It would be him or Jabari Smith for me

From Daniel Hackett on Twitter, who knows the cap rules pretty well:

[Vezenkov can’t just decide not to play for his NBA team and go sign with a FIBA affiliated team instead. FIBA and the NBA have an agreement to avoid that. So he needs to be waived by the Raps to go play elsewhere.](https://x.com/dhackett1565/status/1807035978814575032?s=46&t=sbk6yuyliVaFRQjBUBJCMQ)

[So you’d think the Raps just tell him he has to take $0 in a buyout to let him go. But he also has some small leverage in that he can “retire” for a year and then the Raps are stuck with his cap hit (though they save the actual cash).](https://x.com/dhackett1565/status/1807035980580290765?s=46&t=sbk6yuyliVaFRQjBUBJCMQ)

[So there is likely some middle ground buyout amount that saves the Raps money and cap hit and lets Vezenkov go sign overseas without losing his whole salary.](https://x.com/dhackett1565/status/1807035983814144360?s=46&t=sbk6yuyliVaFRQjBUBJCMQ)

So methinks there’s a negotiation to be had on the buyout amount.

Keith Smith did say a few weeks ago [retiring then signing overseas won’t work](https://x.com/keithsmithnba/status/1799447599000264812?s=46&t=sbk6yuyliVaFRQjBUBJCMQ) so we’ll see.

Edit: Blake has also chimed in on this:

[Vezenkov and Raptors would have to come to an agreement on a buyout to allow him to head back. The amount of the buyout will determine cap implications for Raptors.](https://x.com/blakemurphyodc/status/1807042197478310323?s=46&t=sbk6yuyliVaFRQjBUBJCMQ)

Damn wish bro would’ve atleast gave us a chance but it is what it is

He was like a God in Europe and came to the NBA to be treated like a cab driver.

    Noped out after one season.

Before anyone starts taking his decision to return to Greece as a personal attack against the Raptors there’s been a push to get him back to Europe well before the trade.
