The Orlando Magic welcomed Tristan da Silva to the team!!

the Orlando Magic welcome Tristan D Silva to the team check out the video all right just didn’t get the memo not to outdress everybody else on day one B first impression yeah um welcome everyone um always always a fun time of year when we uh get to go through the draft process and um especially when it ends as well as we think it ended yesterday so today is the new beginning of us adding our newest member of the Orlando Magic Tristan da Silva and uh before we kind of get into it I want to uh extend a welcome to uh mom Christine dad Voldemort and Jonica and Anthony from Excel um who are uh uh along for um the beginning of the journey welcome so we’ve talked before about how we came into this draft and and the attributes that we were looking for and even uh a little bit about how you might not be able to check all the boxes at 18 but um I think things broke our way uh I think some of the craziness of that particular draft helped us to have things break our way and ultimately we were thrilled to be able to walk away with uh Tristan D Silva so I’ve said before the elements that we were looking for shooting skill IQ character positional size Tristan checks all the boxes for us and I will say this one one additional thing is within the kind of IQ box is quick decision making and that’s something that is increasingly valuable in the NBA as defenses load up and uh if you’re able to outthink people and and and react quickly to things that haven’t quite formed yet um it uh uh it puts the team in a good position so with Tristan being available to us at 18 um it was it was a it was a happy night for the magic and um beyond that as you guys all know we look for the player as well or before the person and with all the intense um Intel background work that we do and with Coach Mosley being uh tied to the Buffs um and uh our performance director Arie kander being kind of an honorary buff in Boulder um we felt that we had Roots uh into a lot of good background work that we were able to um do with Tristan not that it was hard to do uh everybody everybody who uh Tristan has left in his path speaks glowingly of him and so we are thrilled to add Tristan to our team on the court off the court and in our community thank you job okay we’ll open up for questions if you can please wait for a microphone and state your name in affiliation Tristan Dan Savage orlandomagic.com what have the last 48 hours been like for you and what are your first impressions of being here in Orlando uh yeah obviously it’s been kind of crazy uh um you know getting going through all this uh all these different emotions uh a lot of excitement a lot of Joy a lot of Happiness um and just being just just being proud to do that uh with my family with my friends um and yeah feel feels good to finally get here and to finally get settled a little bit and you know having having certainty I feel like that’s a big thing as well because there’s going so much there’s so much going on on draft night and then you know to finally hear your name called and knowing where you end up and knowing the people that you’re going to be around is very very comforting and very settling Tristan Philip Rossman Reich Orlando Magic daily welcome to Orlando uh we’ve heard Jeff talk about your IQ kind of the the Scout you know all the Scout Scouts and draft analysts really speak highly of your basketball IQ what does that mean to you and and where do you feel like that comes from um I think basketball IQ is just being a smart player um you know just having the intelligence of the game uh understanding positions understanding advantages understanding um you know where you have to be on the floor and understanding that minimal changes are going to make a big impact on the possession or on the um on the play you know it might be a step towards a step too far to the right or to the left and it already might mess up the whole spacing so um I feel like that’s that’s something that I’m really big on is is being you know detail oriented in that sense and you know it’s going to it’s going to create an advantage for you offensively and then also defensively being in the right spot and knowing where you are at all times all Tristan Alex Walker with Channel 9 here in Orlando welcome for some players that get drafted they’re joining teams on the start of a rebuild but you’re joining a team that was one wi away from the Eastern semis last year just how exciting is that to join a young talented core that’s winning right now yeah it’s very rare uh you know you go into a situation with with a lot of young Talent that’s already um you know done so much um so it’s really really special to to join that group and you know I feel I feel good going into a situation where I know there’s a lot of players that that are kind of in in a similar mind space as me and at the same kind of uh you know chapter in their career uh even though they might have already played for three years or what it whatever um so I’m really excited to to just join that team and you know uh compliment Tristan Brett James here from Orlando Magic HQ these two men sitting next to and Jeff welman and Coach Mosley have spoke glowingly about you not just about your basketball intellect but more so the type of character that you are what can you say to this Orlando Magic community and the fan base about the type of young man that’s stepping into this organization yeah I mean these two have been hyping me up so much it’s kind of hard to live up to it so um but yeah um I’m just you you know I’m I’m a regular guy I’m just you know like everybody else I’m just living life for the first time but um you know I’m trying to do the right things I’m trying to have the have the right impact so I feel like with these two on my side um you know they’re they’re great personalities great great characters um which is you know which I highly value so um it’s going to be a lot of fun getting to know them more and and working together with them uh Jessica El Fox 35 right here um you having four years of college experience how do you feel like that set you apart from other rookies yeah I mean um I feel like experience speaks for itself um it’s just a matter of development and a matter of knowing who you are and who you’re not and um you know I’m I’m I feel like I’m going to be real comfortable coming into this new situation because I know what type of player I am I know how I can help my team I know um you know um yeah how to fit in how to fit in right with this group and um yeah those those four years definitely helped me a lot to you know polish my game and kind of understand um where my where my strengths are and apply that to the next level Mike Brodsky Florida national news uh of the conversations that you’ve had so far with the magic players coaches and staff what would you say is the best piece of advice you’ve received so far um I mean just you know taking care of of business while also being uh you know being a great character I feel like you know this this organization values that a lot uh you know the the person that I am uh you know you’ve heard all this praise uh about me so far um and um you know I’m still I’m still very focused on basketball so I’m I’m trying to you know go to go to war with these guys uh Jamie say news six Tristan you say you’re a regular guy regular guys don’t make the end NBA um just wondering how much work have you put into this moment and what is your approach to working now that you are in the NBA uh I mean now the real work starts you know I know that this was a big step and I know that you know this seems like a u you know huge accomplishment but there’s a lot of work behind it um you know day in day out and a lot of dedication and a lot of um you know love for the game and I feel like that’s that’s the thing that’s going to carry me uh even further and you know now with these resources that I have over here and the people uh that I’m I know I’ll enjoy working with um I can’t wait to to get to it Danielle Stein with Spectrum News 13 here in Orlando um kind of speaking to that you’ve watched your family going through this basketball Journey with your brother previously going through the professional you know starting stages for you to now be living this part of your dream now and you know having watched that how fulfilling is it for you just knowing where you and your your family and your brother kind of came from with basketball it’s awesome uh I mean I’m I’m kind of I feel like I’m kind of living this dream for for our whole family um you know for everybody that I played with growing up you know my friends that I still have back in Munich that I played with I played basketball with growing up and um you know all my former teammates all my family all my friends uh this is also for them and and you know for me to see them coming out to New York to the draft um means a lot to me and uh yeah it’s it’s just a fulfilling moment um but once again I’m I know this is only the beginning tror Mike biani from the Orlando Sentinel one of the major storylines in in the draft is the influx of of international players and the developmental system uh in Europe as compared to here what is that developmental system like and maybe can you compare it to what you’ve seen about the developmental system here uh I can’t really speak on um you know high school basketball development over here uh because I haven’t been a part of it but I know for for a fact that in in Europe you know there’s a lot of detail oriented work um and you know it’s a it’s a process so there’s a lot of uh you know slow incremental Al development where you know young players get get to play and get to play free and you know even though you’re part of a system there’s always um you know options for uh for your uh instincts to kick in um and for me that was big um and by now the the NBA is really international business uh on a global scale so you know that that impact I feel like is is huge for for kids kids to see that there’s International guys in the NBA and you know it’s it’s so readily available to to everybody to see that you know basketball is more than just the the American Country dominating the league um so there’s there’s a lot of uh you know cultural impact from all over the globe Kristen logo West two news here in Orlando as well I’m just curious we talked a lot about about how Jeff and mo have been raving about how they think you’ll fit here how they’re confident that you Thrive and develop here but from your perspective why do you think you’ll be comfortable here that you’ll develop here under Mo and with the rest of this team yeah I mean I I kind of see a pattern you know I feel like the biggest jump that I’ve done so far is going from from Europe over to the states and playing basketball over here and you know back then I talked to Coach back then AC um and and head coach tab Bo and and you know the vision that they had for me and kind of me giving them the trust to to kind of take that into their hands and um work together with me um was a was a huge step because you know you’re you’re putting in into some somebody else’s hand and trusting them to to get you to where you want to go and um you know I’m kind of doing the same thing again so I’m trusting I’m trusting these guys and I feel like I’m a I’m a master at at adapting um you know different cultural background uh coming to the states and staying here for four years living by myself and stuff like that I feel like you know I adjusted really well to the lifestyle and it’s going to be the same thing all over again and plus I have two Germans on the team so it’s going to be easy to adjust uh Nate Maro Sports Illustrated who are some of the people that have helped you the most on your journey and how have they what is the impact they’ve had on you um I mean first and foremost my family obviously my dad my mom uh my my brother um and then you know my my closest friends out of Munich U I feel like they’ve had a huge impact as well um before coming to college it was definitely um Robbie shinberg um and johanes Nino uh my two coaches that I’m that I’m really really close with to this day and um yeah I mean Coach Bo um I can’t I can’t thank him enough and I’m you know I’m beyond grateful for for what he’s done for me and uh to you know together with the rest of the staff to kind of get me uh to this next level Tristan Jason be with the Orlando Sentinel we talked about your journey earlier your work to this point when did you realize that you were good at basketball that this is a career you could pursue like was there a point in your youth or or or something where maybe there was a tournament and you realized hey I’m a little bit different than everyone else on the court yeah I always kind of knew I was a little bit different than everybody else but I didn’t really have the physical tools and then when I started growing I was like okay um you know I was just I was just kind of waiting for that for that growth spirit and kind of the the physical development because i’ seen it with my brother happening with my brother you know he kind of grew taller than everybody else and still had that same skill set um and the same happened for me and then at a certain point throughout College um you know when I saw uh Jabari go to the league and you know I played against him every day in practice and um you know other people that that scratched the NBA and other people that um played at that level that I played against and played with um I feel like that gave me confidence to pursue that and you know test the waters last year and then this year go all in be sure to like comment and subscribe see you in the next video hoop life family
