[Shams] Sources: The Oklahoma City Thunder and free agent F Aaron Wiggins have agreed to a new five-year, $47 million deal. After OKC declined his $2M team option, Wiggins receives $45M in new money, with a significant raise next season. Thunder lock in a key rotation piece long-term.

Ended up being our best player in the 21 draft

Pretty cheap for the savior of basketball

  3. THlSGUYSAYS

Seems fair for the guy who saved basketball

  4. Headlesshorsman02

He truly is a team player man, he saves basketball once again

Less than 10m a year? Epic.

Wiggins has saved Thunder Basketball yet again!

    TTFU! 🌩

Contract will look better and better over time. Bargain in my opinion was expecting ~12 mill/year.

  7. Essentially a 11.25M/Year deal. a much better bargain at 9.4M

Less than 10 AAV is great value for Wiggins

  9. LETS GOOOO THATS A GREAT DEAL AARON WIGGINS SAVED BASKETBALL AND HE SAVED THE THUNDER HES PLAYING HERE FOREVER

  10. Good to re-sign him, but curious of timing. How much cap space left? Keith Smith tweeted before this move 30 million in cap space (thought we had a little bit more), that’s 21 million to sign any new players.

Timing may not matter, since none of this is finalized until July 6th, so we can act like we have 30+ million in cap space even if we re-sign our bird rights guys in the interim. But if timing does matter…does this signal we struck out on Hartenstein, if we only have 21 million left in cap space, will he sign for okc at 21 vs stay in New York for 17 million.

Great contracts, and if a big name does become available during the season, this gives us some salaries to match.

The man barely got drafted and now is going to be able to sleep tonight knowing he’s looking at near $50M. This is why the NBA is so damn special.

Both of these contracts seem to be good deals for the player and the Thunder. Both should be very tradeable commodities in future years if the Thunder need to move them.

I am very curious to see if the Thunder increase Wiggins’ role now and give him more minutes.

My guess is the plan was to get him at 3 years $45m, but they smoothed it out by declining his to and giving him $47m over 4…

Would be even better if it’s a declining salary…

  15. MastrMatt

Great contract for both sides. Dude secures his future and the Thunder secure a long term piece.

  16. Wiggins will be here until his 30. All prime years

Congrats to these players. Well deserved and I’m happy that they’ll be around for a while.

  18. Well deserved congratulations to the Wiggins Family

That is a home town discount for Isaiah Joe. Holy smokes.

This is the salary a player takes when they like where they’re at. He knows he’s going to be on a competitor all 5 of those years.

We just won the championship (I’m full pat bev mode now)

Hells yeah, love being able to keep Wiggs and glad he is coming in at a lowish contract that is more money than all of us will see in our lives combined.
