[Wojnarowski] There’s still a conversation with agent Rich Paul and Lakers on James taking $1 million or so below max to keep team below second-apron and able to keep a little more roster-building flexibility, source tells ESPN.

Makes sense, got downvoted in the other thread for saying there’s no way Bron wouldn’t do this considering what we’ve known
imDaGoatnocap
If we stay under the 2nd apron we would be able to combine DLo + Gabe salary for someone like Grant, correct?

Loool big pay cut

“LeBron can you please take a pay cut because I’m not able to do my job properly” – Rob Pelinka.
yungs824
Honestly good, he was only gonna take a pay cut for Derozan and Gary Trent is a way better fit anyway, hopefully we go after him with the reduced MLE
Oscar_322418
I know this is at least a bit of good news but man i’m so fucking tired of seeing the word “conversation” with the offseason we’ve had thus far.
CSGOW1ld
How sweet of him to give us back an extra one million lmfao
thetitsOO
Afaik we still have the tpmle regardless right?

Can’t blame LeBron for not taking a bigger pay cut. He was willing but we couldn’t secure anyone lmao. He should take the max.

This is an embarrassing way to conduct business
LanaSwiftFan
he shouldnt.
lionking25
So why Rob gave Max a $8m contract when there is no one try to steal him?
randomrule
People here are so desperate for something to happen without considering whether it’s actually a good move for the team, and without acknowledging the other party has to be in agreement as well. If that rumored Klay deal happened people would be trashing it. Derozan for more than the MLE doesn’t make sense for either party
Moves for the sake of moves doesn’t necessarily improve the team and a trade was always more likely to bring in impact talent anyways
brandoi
The full MLE was long gone, so as long as Bron keeps us under the second apron, nothing has actually changed in our situation. The team is still focused on looking for salary dumps into S&T deals or some 2 for 1 trades.

Hope we have a few moves to address guard and center issues. We cannot run it back next year. This team even fully healthy is clearly not enough
Elite_Alice
It would be greed and selfish for bron to not do that. Crying about not making moves and then taking the max. Brady always took substantially less money than he deserved so the pats could add weapons. Yea we struck out on Klay and Jonas but it’s not like rob didn’t offer Klay the bread.
Hungry-Space-1829
Imagine just being able to decline $1 million
paticao
now let’s go and get Grant.

I think we need to give some seconds to salary dump Cam Reddish. And then put our two FRP together for one last trade for Jerami Grant. I would actually trade Rui, Vando, and a vet min (most likely Wood because he’s the highest paid vet min). Re-sign Taurean with non bird rights that pays him under his deal last year but over the vet min for a one year deal.
Leave the 15th roster spot open, either sign Castleton at the deadline or a vet min buyout candidate
Hour_Insurance_7795
It’s his money, of course. I won’t besmirch him if he chooses to make as much as he can while he can (like we all do). I don’t have the right to decide on behalf of somebody else how much they “should” be making on the open market, and vice versa.
But it would be nice.

GMs have been fired for this kind of management of a team, this is embarrassing.

Probably not even really necessary if they plan on ditching Reddish. That would open up one roster spot and enough space under the 2nd apron even with LeBron at the max for a prorated midseason minimum pick-up.
It does add a very small amount of flexibility, though.
Cute_Ad_6980
This was always the deal. No wonder Rob was complaining, good PR from Lebron.
