BREAKING: Thunder signs big man Isaiah Hartenstein, does extensions with Isaiah Joe, Aaron Wiggins

well Thunder fans free agency is underway and lots of big headlines today on July 1st I’m Jenny Carlson here uh lots of news to talk about as the Thunder has been very active already as we sit here midm morning on Monday the first official day of free agency the Thunder big news they have signed former Nicks Center Isaiah hartenstein this is a big get for a team that needed to add size in the off season and they got a great role player in that regard Isaiah hartstein three years $87 million being reported that the contract that he’s done with the Thunder is so a a big contract but an important piece for this team as it continues to try to improve its standing in the west improve its standing in the NBA hartenstein much like Alex Caruso really good role player for the next the last couple years started a bunch of games this year as the Knicks had injury issues so he’s capable of playing against uh the Top Line guys in the NBA we saw that in the playoffs but this is a guy that you know may come off the bench for the Thunder uh but then in uh crunchtime situations depending on the matchups could easily be on the floor with uh with Chad holgren with the rest of the Thunder roster but a great addition for the Thunder a guy that we had heard the Thunder was in on was potentially talking to and the deal was done uh Isaiah hartenstein will be a thunder player for the 2425 season so another big time ad for the thunder in this off season then they retained a couple guys this is also important uh as Isaiah Joe and Aaron Wiggins were added to uh longterm or got long-term deals with the Thunder they were coming up uh on the end of contracts so it was time to determine what their situation with the Thunder was also happening Monday morning so lots going on at Thunder headquarters but Isaiah Joe signs a fouryear $48 million deal to stay in Oklahoma City Aaron Wiggins five years $47 million so some important pieces that the Thunder had basically uh you know had had evolved had grown Isaiah Joe was a guy they picked up after he was released uh by the s Sixers Aaron Wiggins a draft piece a few years ago both players that have really blossomed in Oklahoma City the Thunder wanting to retain them they did retain them so big additions uh or retentions there by Sam prey and Company but then the big news today again Isaiah hartenstein signing with the Thunder three years and this is a guy that he’s never averaged more than 8.3 points a game in any season in the NBA he’ll he’ll be heading into a seven year uh this next uh this next season but he averaged 78 7.8 points a game this last year with the Knicks again I mentioned he had a lot of starts because of injuries in New York so a guy that largely had come off the bench before seeing those starter minutes uh and so a little dip in that production but not not a ton and it should be said that he had a career high average rebounds per game uh last season again with the next 8.3 rebounds a game so definitely a guy when you talk about the thunder uh needing you know as much help as they can get rebounding they lose Josh giddy in that trade for Alex Caruso giddy a bigger guard who really rebounded well so again not having those Bigs like we saw the Thunder trying to match up with in that Series against Dallas not having that size now hartenstein will come in and be able to provide that size in the post the Thunder might have been lacking in situations like that he compare really well with Chad holgren they’re both seven feet artenstein more of a widebody compared to Chad holgren than again most people are in the NBA uh at that size but hartenstein we will be really interesting to see how the Thunder decides to use him uh especially against teams in the west that have bigger centers whether you’re talking about Anthony Davis in Los Angeles uh joic in Denver um you know on down the list lots of teams Dallas of course that that playoff matchup we saw them with their two bigs you know how the Thunder tries to match that beat that really contend with that uh I think it’s going to be really interesting again as we sit here on Monday first day officially a free agency Thunder making some big moves some important moves as they look to become even more uh of a contender of a front runner in the West in the NBA so if there’s more news we’ll continue to talk about it but be sure to stay uh with me here on my YouTube channel the Jenny Carlson show and on my substack beyond the box score that’s Jenny carson. substack

Oklahoma City isn’t messing around as general manager Sam Presti does three deals that should help further establish the Thunder as an NBA contender.

  1. It's excellent news. We got Isaiah Joe, Wiggins, and Hart. I think this signing is symbolic in the fact that everyone knows that OKC isn't the most attractive free agency destination in the world. So, to get Hartenstein to sign to come here really shows that OKC is on the rise as a team, because he wouldn't come to a team he didn't feel was competing for a championship and that he could be the missing piece to help get over the top. Huge move for OKC.

  2. Resigning IJoe & Wiggs is significant but the signing of IHart fills the missing piece in the Thunder puzzle to play for a championship!!
