have started and Jeremy soan and Wy have begun tuning up for the Olympic Games now soan and team Poland they lost recently to the Bahamas uh soan had a pretty good game never despite the loss he uh and team Poland lost to the Bahamas in a in a qualifying tournament now he’s a little different they’re in a qualifying tournament so they got to win in order to get into the summer games didn’t start off strong 90 to 81 uh loss to the Bahamas soan did finish with 16 points and 10 rebounds uh had an imp impressive defensive moment that went viral but we’ll see if they can get in and wimy and Team France they got their exhibition games going out remember France is the host country all French teams have an automatic spot in the Olympics so they have nothing to worry about as far as qualifying but nevertheless in a tuneup game they just smoked turkey 96 to 46 that was the final score Wy had 24 points six rebounds four assists three blocks and 20 minutes and he got pranked not kidding he got pranked to start the game uh Team France uh dur Productions let wimy go first so he goes out running running running cheering the crowd on and then you see Evan Fier about to go next and Batum holds him back and tells him don’t go don’t go out there and so wm’s all by himself waving the crowd he turns around sees the tunnel French teammates are laughing at him wmy took it inst stride that was just a little fun moment but yeah I mean just absolutely crushed uh turkey but they’ll still play some tuneup games ahead of the Olympics in other Spurs news this is via the Miami Herold very jaon spr a rumor to be possible next destination for Demar D rozan you heard that right Demar d rozan uh D roen um wants out of Chicago especially after the recent deal getting Josh kiddy so they’re trying to facilitate something but it have to be a sign in trade opens the questions are the Spurs willing to bring him back and how do you facilitate a sign in trade in other words what’s the deal Chicago is going to want maybe a small Hall who knows the Spurs can pretty much facilitate any type of demand deal that any teams want to make um you know to for them to you know make a deal with San Antonio but you know it was interesting just to hear that uh that Spurs are possibly a destination for demard de rosan interesting Spurs fans has been mixed half saying yeah bring a mat have saying no no saying oh the spacing is going to be terrible the other side saying yeah veteran president familiar with the system mid-range game all that good stuff so it’s split right down the middle where do you stand physicality and the speed of the game while Harrison Ingram uh he said it was more cerebral that how fast you have to learn things like you it’s almost like you got to get in the first try and then move on and then he also talked about uh how players just make shots left and right like in other words you know he said in college you can cheat a little bit sag off your the guy that he was screen why time is here because the summer league kicks off tomorrow the California classic and then after that it is a quick trip to the Las Vegas summer league the big big event and the roster is out training camp well Summer League training camp is over it’s now to see what the young kids can do who could be making an impact on the roster who should you be looking out for during these next few days Tom You Are The Guest take it away who should you be watching or who you telling the fans to be watching in the next few days I mean the the obvious answer here is new spur Chris Paul I’m kidding yeah that would be so funny isn’t that weird to say isn’t that just weird to say God it’s so it’s so weird to say but could you like could you imagine if he was like yeah I just sort of want to get my feet wet in the system you know try sell out crowd sellout crowds at Cox Pavilion tell that much K who’s the oldest summer league player to ever play at Summer League that’s something I want to know a good question yeah uh but yeah it would be funny as hell to send 39y old Chris Paul to do that but no I don’t think they’re going to uh not at all Stefan castle that is that is why the context of what’s Happening Here uh is is going to be so interesting because Castle uh is not I don’t believe going to get uh the opportunity to start at point guard for the Spurs team where it looked like that might be the case on draft night right right uh so this makes summmer League a uh very important Proving Ground for him to show the parts of his game that maybe he didn’t get to show quite as much uh when he was in college uh he was asked to play more of an off ball role so seeing him take the lead is going to be really quite interesting I think um and just sort of as a baseline for where he’s at right now as a floor General point guard pick and roll guy um you know what’s he got and we’re seeing practice tape but you know we see we see a lot of tape from gyms and Summers you know I I I saw I saw like you know Ben Simmons jump shots happening the other day on my timeline he’s back baby that’s how you know it’s it’s you know post finals we’re in July now um Castle I think can crack the real rotation right away uh with not point guard stuff with defense and versatility um but I don’t see him spending much time in Austin yeah uh at all so this is going to be our first Glimpse and maybe our last Glimpse for a while of him as the true point guard so that to me is the most important development important thing to watch this whole summer league yeah not the only guy on the roster most important though yeah yeah exactly you know there I got chance to see him put up his first shots in San Antonio during his introduction conference shot doesn’t too broken maybe a little fine tweaking but nevertheless you know I want to look at that with Castle how does his shot look that is his biggest knock locked on Yukon jumped on this past week and told Spurs fans it’s fine it’s fine it’s not a broken shot where it needs reconstruction it’s fine like every NBA player goes through this Tom they they fix things if it was broken guess what he’s 19 years old um you know I see a lot of like rookie Kawai potential here in just the way he gets his minutes M you know like because because he can I believe fit well next to everything else that the Spurs have going on um absolutely and and make an impact in the margins not necessarily where they hope he goes um but the way he made a difference for that champion Yukon team playing gritty nasty defense um you see that highlight reel I put up the other day of just him dogging guys like yeah just cling on like inside of their jerseys the screen navigation the strength the speed he’s like he’s like a piss off mirror is how he defends um it’s it’s really really lovely to watch him play defense I’m excited to see him roaming the wings with soan and Vel Wy waiting in the pain with Chris Paul dude can I just really quickly on Chris Paul for because it’s related to Castle’s development it’s related to the development of every player on this roster how valuable will it be for the Spurs for the next however long Victor wanyama career is to have all of this tape from this upcoming year where they I think they’re just gonna tell Chris Paul run as many pick and rolls as you possibly can with Victor wanyama give us all that tape yeah so that we can show it 15 years from now and let people know how they’re supposed to play this position next to this guy that’s gonna help Castle it’s gonna help wemy it’s going to help every single player think think about how many guys were sort of forced into the position last year the experiment last year of um you know let’s see who can playmake playmake by committee yeah uh when when you send all of those guys back from like sometimes the primary playmaker to like a true secondary catch and attack role which I think is what Kellin and Devin and soan are gonna thrive on offensively uh it makes it so much easier for everybody else uh oh absolutely yeah can’t wait can’t see me me neither me neither yeah and and the good thing about uh Castle coming on board I really will we have CP3 to help guide him he’ll also have Trey Jones Trey Jones is the veteran of the system and he he can help him in that development he was the best onew combo with wimy Trey Jones found him more often than not he was the primary facil for wimy so help him in that department so excited that’s great for Chris Paul’s development too Trey Jones will take him under his wing show him a thing or two about the point guard position yeah no I’m excited Tre Jones yeah but I mean with with Castle learning from CP3 man like I I really do think that the benefit in the film room this year is I think Pop’s gonna stop the tape a hundred times a game and be like Chris why did you do that can you explain to the class why you did that yeah Chris why did you take over film session go ahead have fun yeah right I I see you cross over to your left hand here you know when you’re standing still looks small but like what what was the thinking there because he knows the answer that Chris Paul is going to say and all the young guys are going to be like oh that’s interesting right exactly uh and I’ve also seen people ask like well you know why not just get a coach first got plenty of coaches first got plenty of Legends in there it’s a little different when like you know say say you’re one of these rangy players who sits on the wing for the Spurs and you know that you’re not the main guy you’ve got to get yours how it comes to you uh if if your coach tells you to do one thing you know you’ll want to do it you’ll try to do it all of these guys will try to do it if your point guard tells you to do something you know then then it’s then it’s much more up here like oh if I don’t do that I don’t get ball you know right and uh and so that I think is going to I mean Spurs got a coach on the floor so I’m sorry I’m sorry I derailed us here but I I think for Castle too like if they didn’t make the Dilly trade and they didn’t make the Chris Paul signing we’re heading into summer league training camp where it’s like you know we’re having tryouts snap the pool queue yeah exact go it go at it which would have been fun to see anyway that would have been great it would have been fun for me but imagine being a 19-year-old kid you know now you’re you’re the point guard for the greatest ECT in team sports or you could be if you beat out this other guy and that’s clearly not the mentality that the Spurs wanted Stefan Castle coming in with they wanted him to see okay you’re our guy we’re gonna we’re gonna give you the best possible Mentor instead of a guy who can take your spot and I you know I mentioned this on Twitter and you know like I think a lot of people read me observing this as like a criticism like I thought they should have kept Dilly and you know and had the tryouts thing and like I I like Dilly I would have been fine with it I I would have been excited but I would much rather this young man be in a position where he feels comfortable and has given the best uh you know the most fertile ground and the most stable support for growing into the player that clearly the Spurs believe he can become as that you you know floor general for the W era so exactly yeah all right really really really exciting and summer league is where it’s all going to start for him exactly all right so Tom is picking Castle I’m going to pick City Soko I think my eyes are going to be on him uh he took part in a media session following day one a practice one for the summer team uh revealed that he has lost weight that he was dealing with a major knee injury last year that according to him it really swelled up and he was using hands like it swolled up and they did a minor surgery to clean it out he’s ready to go I think the spur is going to be giv him a lot more minutes next season and he could be like this wild card player on the roster you know this athletic freak that was just destroying the G league but just really couldn’t find any time last season it was San Antonio because of the knee knee injury and let’s face it you know I mean there is nothing really to play for uh I’m glad that uh he’s feeling good now he mentioned words like leadership he looks he could expand that department the Spurs could be tapping into his skill set next season I’m looking at cidi sasoko I’m excited to see what we get out of him with more minutes on the San Antonio roster versus the Austin so I have him on my radar Tom I think I think he’s gonna be really fun to watch he spent a lot of time developing an Austin last year he came in he said he lost 20 pounds which uh you know is kind of wild because still looks pretty like he came in well I I noticed it right away he did look a lot thinner he was really beefier and bulkier last year but you you saw in his arms are slim down I was gonna say not a lot of guys come into the NBA at 19 with like a body that looks ready looks like you can handle you know the grown men in there and uh yeah he’s he’s stacked but I mean I I think his his playmaking his decision making his um his reads he’s that’s all stuff that he was working on last year in Austin and you know I’ve seen people actually compare Castle’s game in a lot of ways uh to cidi Soko um so it’s I think it’s going to be interesting uh you know what kind of role he plays what the two of them look like together um but yeah man it’s I mean this is a guy who’s got a couple years of experience now playing in the G League um getting after it this is going to be like he hasn’t cracked the the San Antonio rotation yet but he is um this this should be his last summer league right and so it’s it’s sort of a pivotal time for him um and depending on how the rest of this roster shakes out um obviously you want to figure out the top end as you’re building a team right but what we’re seeing now with the second apron stuff uh with the richest owners in the sport not get getting spooked not by uh you know paying the tax but by being in a situation where they can’t improve the roster and so part of building that flexibility is turning you know these guys who are second round picks who are you know undrafted free agents you know the the Brin Forbes of the world you know kind of thing where you you take a guy you develop him um you know Drew EU Banks dom dom Barlo who is gonna get some interest from some teams uh you know Sandra Mell guys who other teams have passed on who have skill who have talent who really want to carve out role and are willing to take uh near minimum money and fill out the roster to guys who can eat minutes through an 82 Game season um absolutely you know I I don’t see CD Soko in like a seven or eight man playoff rotation for the Spurs anytime soon if they’re if they’re actually competing yeah um but I I think that he can be a valuable change of pace for this team and piece of depth and affordable depth um so you know you you look at bass’s Contract you look at champ Pen’s contract if the Spurs can turn CD sissoko into a contributor like that on a reasonable deal um I think that’s gonna pay dividends for them from a from a team building perspective one one guy I want to mention uh before we finish with Summer League uh is Harrison Ingram absolutely Texas kid uh back home and I I just personally I love his build uh you know the the Height’s he’s probably more of a three than a four uh at the NBA level um but just a lot of skill and a lot of lot of beef and the ability to shoot the ball I think that he kind of has a sneaky outside shot at being a contributor to the San Antonio team um more quickly than maybe people think absolutely yeah yeah U got to talk to him Harrison uh during his introduction conference and smart kid you know loves to play chess learned it from his dad visited San Antonio often hit up Fiesta Texas Six Flags so he’s familiar with the city Castle Harrison they already did their uh River Walk boat ride so they’re all San Antonio now but yeah exciting times ahead you’re getting some some silver and black action summer leag form but nevertheless you get a peek into what can be other quick notables before we get to our next topic uh rayan gray uh he’s been on lock on Spurs before I mention seen him you know Candy carado role in the NBA not necessarily in the with the Spurs if you know hopefully that happens but if not he has a promising future and uh who else we got jir Nelson Jr yes for those you are not old enough there was a player called Jamir Nelson played for the magic for most of his time his son is on the on the I’m sorry the League Spurs roster so that’ll be fun to watch there head coach Kenny trino from ball boy to Summer League head coach wow kudos to Kenny trino it’s gonna be fun times ahead all that kicks exactly is from well we’re gonna you’re about to exactly hear what I’m about to say first comment left on the lockdown Spurs YouTube page from GD he says or she says Ben Simmons he’s not expensive and relieves a lot of stress off Wy so this lockdown Spurs commenter would like to see Ben Simmons and Spurs colors Tom I I think I’m gonna pass on that whole idea I’m good I’m good I think the Spurs are good I I think we can pass on this whole discussion thank you thank you I I will use it as a quick uh quick chance to talk about the way that the Spurs are building this roster uh and why I think like bigger moves for bigger names at this juncture at this very specific juncture like heading into training camp uh I don’t personally see it happening Spurs are doing the slow and steady thing it kind of goes back to uh what we uh um talked about before with like they’re they’re not going to over leverage themselves they know how hard it’s going to be not just to build a contender uh but to maintain a contender that’s going to be the hard part is maintaining a contender for for the long term uh I I honestly I I don’t know what’s going on with Ben Simmons contract I’m so Tapped Out Ben Simmons stuff me too uh me too it it just interests me so little because let’s let’s just let’s just think about what is needed around Wy right um I don’t think the Spurs are interested in adding question marks around Wy and Ben Simmons is like the Riddler basketball-wise like you know there if if there’s some Ben Simmons Whisperer out there who can you know make him play at an All-Star level you know good for him I don’t think the Spurs are interested in projects like that anymore you know where in years past they were like you know you know what Zack Collins let’s take a shot on you man you know let’s let’s see if we can help you rebuild your career obviously different like you know kinds of players and reasons that they fell off but like you know in years past when they had the cap space and they had the you know holes in the rotation to do stuff like that sure you know um was there ever a time when Ben Simmons to the Spurs would have made sense maybe maybe [Music] um but like I I just don’t I don’t personally see that yeah I I don’t I don’t see it either yeah yeah I think I think at this point we just move on right it a gonna happen I don’t think I don’t think he helps the spacing at all no at exactly no he’s just gonna clog the whole paint and everything it might pass up shots too as we seen in the video all right moving on uh the next comment is from Mark Larson he’s asking Tom does this referring to the CP3 Edition make T Jones Trey Jones eventually if soon tradable interesting question I don’t think he makes trade Jones tradable uh Mark I think he only enhances his game it improves him helps him become a better point guard because Tre Jones if as of now has a longer shelf life with the Spurs than maybe CP3 I can see CP3 leaving after this upcoming season or even Midway through next season you know they wave him let him go and play with a championship contending team but nevertheless no I I don’t think it makes him tradeable at this very moment uh if anything he just helps them Tom your thoughts I think the the Chris Paul trade the the Chris Paul signing makes Chris Paul more tradable uh because I mean he took a $19 million pay cut to come to San Antonio and throw lobs uh to Victor wanyama essentially he wants to prove that he’s still a star I mean I’m sure that was the sell from pop is’s like hey look you want to prove you still got it I got the guy who will make your job easy make it very simple yep Trey Jones meanwhile moves over I think logically here to what his what his logical ceiling I think we’ve been talking about since he was drafted early in the second round four years ago now five years ago has he it’s been a while it’s been about four years or so yeah going on year five it was in it was in the Vel draft right so he’s been here for a minute uh he’s on an expiring deal um but I think the Spurs are going to love having him you know as a steady hand in that backup unit um we could see Trey Jones get moved this year it could happen um I I think that the Spurs have done a very good job of keeping their books uh very clean very very clean they’re very Nimble um but yeah like you said um you know say we get to uh January and Spurs are playing pretty good um you know Castle is taking leap Chris Paul is you know playing in a way that he has suitors right uh if there suitors who can make a trade for him um then I you know that might happen uh what also might happen is the Spurs either buy him out or make a trade with somebody else who then buys him out uh Atlanta uh you know if if if the Hawks are falling apart at the if a team is falling apart at the deadline uh and they’re they’re looking for a blowed up move um you know the Spurs could potentially use Chris Paul or Andor Trey Jones in there although Trey Jones’s contract is is smaller um or actually about the same size right um how much is he making a year Tre Jones who you Trey Jones um let me find that out uh I mean he’s pretty much on the be well knowing the Spurs he’s on the uh cheap side for NBA standards uh yeah so he’s uh due 9.1 million in 2425 season so right so so the Spurs have the Spurs have it’s it’s affordable deals for each of them but it also means the Spurs have serviceable point guards uh with a total of $20 million of salary on their roster right now on inspiring deals so uh could Trey Jones be moved yes I think anybody on this roster could be moved moved for the right price outside of Victor wanyama um but uh I I think it I think it raises a really interesting question about okay what is the next move right because you know somebody asked like well what does Chris Paul get out of this like you know uh proves to somebody that he can he can do it still it’s like yes also uh look look just five years into Chris Paul’s future 10 like he’s probably going to be an NBA head coach one day if he wants to he’ll be really really great at it um and so I think that that’s something in the back of his mind like yeah let me join that pop coaching tree you think that’s not a conversation that happened with Steve Kerr uh when he was on his way uh to being waved in Golden State um and you know from all of the reporting from reporters who are clearly close with Chris Paul in his Camp it seems like uh he is hellbent on proving that he’s still got something to give to a winner uh and this is a really interesting thing that was brought up um if he’s bought out even with all of the second apron Malarkey uh his contract is small enough as I understand it that he could join basically any team in the buyout Market yeah yeah so that keeps his his options very open and I’m sure that was a conversation that was had very candidly with Greg papovich right I’m sure both of them are open to the possibility of Chris Paul not being here after the trade deadline um and that’s okay for both of them right EXA they can both squeeze a ton of value out of however long this uh relationship lasts yeah I’m right there with you yeah all in all it’s a win-win Winn win situation for the Spurs with Chris Paul I I’ll look you tell me half a season with Chris Paul teaching all the young kids on the roster not just the guards everybody putting that little bit dog in them we seen Chris talk has a lot of dog a lot of it so inject yeah inject into that young young Group in San Antonio I think the Spurs
