Kristen Newton Alum of sleepers draft to paloa has been selected by the Indiana Pacers this is a fun fit the Pacers play that up and down transition heavy system and uh they got a guard that I am super high on compared to a lot of guys in this draft uh the question with where he fits in is what I want to discuss with you today because there’s a lot of good guards on Indiana as is Tyrese Halbert and TJ McConnell Andrew nard have all played big roles on this team Ben Maan is still a guy who needs back courp minutes um Bruce Brown is Bruce Brown under contract still or is he done he’s done isn’t he uh he ended up with Toronto sorry I the roster from last I was like I don’t remember Bruce Brown at the end of the year um but yeah Ben Shepards with the the summer league team like there’s a lot of guys we high on in this back court and I guess do you do you think it’s a good landing spot for Tristan uh I I do I do because I mean just quite simply put you see what kind of resurgence or role a guy like a TJ McConnell was able to have right with the Pacers that has me feeling really good about what Tristan Newton’s possible role could be for this team because I I think I think those guys are two guys that do same of the same things or like not do do I think they have like the same kind of career trajectory somewhat right like now Tristan Newton won I think a little bit more at that level but like um I I I think that looking at what T.J McConnell did trist Newton should feel good about what his role could be with the Pacers oh okay I like that I’m I’m intrigued by your initial positive response yeah I think um if this works like long term he’s got to beat out at least one if not both of McConnell and nard right yeah because he can do a lot of those things but I guess my question is like the other guys who can do a lot of those things are McConnell and nart and they’re already there and they’re established so he’s got to either like provide something new that those guys don’t and or just be a better version of them I think it could happen but it’s one of those things where like I don’t see a clear minutes opportunity they already play three point cards and yeah and they resign they just sign mconnell too yeah so like and I look with them going to the Eastern Conference Finals like they don’t need to Swit [ __ ] around in the back court too much but um he’s a guy who I think fits in with them it’s just my question is can he outplay them okay so what trist new needs to do he needs to draw more of a rift in between neb har and halberton to the point where the Pacers trade halberton and then he slides in yeah like one of them flips out bad enough that he like Demands a trade or something like that yeah something like that yeah I I could see that working in everyone’s favor um do you think three years from now we fast forward is Tristan Newton ahead of those guys on the depth chart no but I think Tristan Newton is a rostered NBA player for somebody okay I think it’s G to be the Pacers I just think he’s going to end up better than some of them um and whether there’s a divide or something I bet one of them gets moved and Tristan Newton kind of wins the backup point guard job over some of these other guys I think he’s that good he’s that versatile he can do a lot of things and uh I think halberton will love playing with him too honestly it’s a guy who can make halbert’s life easier
