“For some reason,” Cissoko said with a sly grin. “I don’t know why”

I just happened to be watching this presser with Sidy about Summer League and I noticed something strange. The words quoted above never came out of his mouth, they were said by the writer of the article, Jeff McDonald, at the end of his ‘question’. Is the bar for beat reporters this low to the ground? It’s not enough to be a glorified cheerleader, but you get to do it in the laziest way possible; putting words in players mouths when the actual quote isn’t juicy enough. It’s a relatively small thing, but I just find it galling honestly.

    To save y’all a click:

[Line 1] **McDonald:** Probably less media around you guys in Vegas this year than last year.

[Line 2] **Sidy:** (Laughing) Yeah, definitely, definitely.

[Line 3] **McDonald:** For some reason. I don’t know why.

[Line 4] **Sidy:** I don’t know why either. (Laughing)

McDonald then attributed Line 3 to Sidy in the story.

Did Trevino finish college at 11 years old?… says he’s 31 and “began his Spurs career 20 years ago when – fresh out of college at UTSA”.

Jeff McDonald is great, I’d probably give him the benefit of the doubt on this one that it was a mistake or rush on transcription or something. Or maybe not, but he’s usually a pretty great beat writer (and funny Twitter follow)
