Just for reference for you guys-
Dalton is almost the exact same size as Klay Thompson. Dalton is 6’5.25″ w/o shoes, 8.5″ length hands, 9.5″ width, 8’7.5″ standing reach, 212 lbs, and 6’9″ wingspan.
Klay was 6’5.75″, 8.75″ hand length, 9.25″ hand width, 8’7.5″ standing reach, 207 lbs, and a 6’9″ wingspan.
But Dalton’s actually more athletic than Klay. Klay’s lane agility was 10.99, his three quarter sprint was 3.24, standing vert only 26.5″, and Max only 31.5″.
Dalton lane agility was 10.56, three quarter sprint was 3.07, standing vert was 31″ and Max vert at 39″.
Anyone who is concerned about his size or athleticism, don’t. In fact, he tested athletically similar to a rookie Jimmy Butler. Now none of this is to say that he’s as good as either player, just saying he is an ideal fit as a 2/3 type.
And if you look into his history, he’s a a kid who has worked his ass off to get to this point. He started in JUCO because he was a small kid. He went through a huge, late growth spurt and makes it to Northern Colorado where he is spectacular as a junior. He transfers to Tennessee to test himself against elite competition and turns in a season where he scored the 5th most points in college ball.
He’s going to be an easy kid to root for and it’s insane that he fell to us. JJ is going to want to turn him into Klay, but his game is probably closer to MPJ at first in the NBA. He should be a great catch and shoot guy who is capable of attacking closeouts. He’s got the tools to be an adequate defender although he wasn’t asked to be a lockdown guy in college (definitely the biggest difference between he and Klay at this stage, Klay was a strong defender).
Tldr; Knecht is a fucking awesome pick at 17 with ideal size, skill, and athleticism who has worked his ass off to get here. If he stays healthy, he should be a ROY candidate.
