back with Brian wior Brian Klay Thompson the free agent now under the spotlight what are you hearing about his future yeah so the Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers are in a fight right now to secure the services of Klay Thompson to try to sweeten the pot I am told both of them are working very hard to work out a sign and trade deal with the Golden State Warriors who understand Clay is going to be moving on and are willing to facilitate a deal the key here is can they make a deal that gets Klay Thompson more money than the mid-level exception of about $13 million that’s what they are working towards that’s going to require a combination of deals a deal on the side to create room and then a deal with the Warriors to get Klay Thompson This is complicated it requires you know potentially three or more teams in both ways and it also requires clay to make a choice but I do believe it’s basically a neck-and-neck fight between the Mavericks and the Lakers Lakers are home where his father played you know home in in Los Angeles the Mavericks obviously offer a very attractive opportunity to compete for its title immediately as are the Western Conference Champs so that is something is right now is playing out behind the scenes probably the most intriguing thing going on in the NBA at the moment yeah another interesting part of the story from the LA standpoint how could Lebron’s contract factor into LA’s pursuit of free agents right so this gets into these new rules of the aprons Jay and it’s complicated but long story short the Lakers can only afford to pay Klay Thompson so much if they give LeBron the max contract to create that space not necessarily salary cap space but space under the apron I know this is new terminology LeBron has shown a willingness to take less money than the $51 million he opted out of for next season how much money less just don’t know yet all of that is under negotiation it depends on a sign in trade it depends on other factors but LeBron’s willingness to take I believe a potentially an eight fig pay cut from that previous salary could be a huge thing for the Lakers even if they Thompson it’s possible they could look to acquire another player either through free agency or trade the same way sounds like they all like the move uh we need NBA front office inside of Bobby marks to break down free agencies so Sixers have been busy they’re talking about the Paul George move that’s that’s the big that was the big anticipated move how’s the Philly roster shaping up around Paul and Joel and Tyrese yeah so this was the roster before they signed Paul George last night and we we’re sliding Paul in right now okay so there’s a little bit of room $3.9 million in room the the interesting thing is Tyrese Maxi agreed to a 5year $24 million contract this morning they still have a low hold on him they it’s a cap hold $13 million they can take advantage of that the player to keep an eye on is Paul Reed he’s got a non-guaranteed contract if you wave Paul Reed that gives you $10 million in cap space they need size Jay but there is limited market here this is what your power forwards it’s certainly a guy like Nick Batum who you had on on on your roster if I was the Sixers I would certainly make a call down here you’ve got guys like miles Bridges would he take a discount a significant discount here but it is going to be bargain shopping they brought Kelly UB back here now the job is it’s to build out their front Court they added Andre Drummond they added some wings with UB they’ve got to get some size and a limited budget right now and Tobias Harris off to uhit to your deal okay uh Klay Thompson the big question mark remaining the Mavericks having emerged as a potential option Brian wior was just talking about that a moment ago what could that look like in Dallas Bobby yeah I I put Dallas kind of in the driver’s seat if they want to go out and get and get Klay Thompson I know we’ve talked about the Lakers here and here’s why they went out and got Naj Marshall um last night on a nice three or $27 million deal remember the apron we’re talking about this dreaded apron the apron is about $178 million Dallas is at $170 million what they can do a player like Josh Green Target a team like Charlotte perhaps Detroit that has cap space you knock Josh Green off now you have a big trade exception you can go out and orchestrate a trade with golden state you put Klay Thompson in that keeps you under that apron you can give him more than a team like the Lakers can be three years $50 million perhaps but the Mavericks have the resources to go out and get them how did the hard well it cleared out money that was the big thing it was always about Derek Jones Jr that was the guy they were going to Target but Jones Goes to the Clippers Hardaway Jr clears out about $12 million in room that gave them the flexibility to go out and get a player like Klay Thompson okay that’d be interesting to see that man right there in a Mavericks uniform just so many years as a Wario okay interesting part of that story uh nine-time All-Star George Ain just under of 21 points per game over a 14-year career spent with Indiana Oklahoma City and the Clippers all right look at the uh Sixers potential roster um Joel embiid Paul George Fresh Off Their NBA Countdown hangout together they’re now on the same team uh Tyrese Maxi getting his money too we’ll talk about that um and look at the other folks Philly trying to fill out a roster to go against the Celtics we’ll see what they can do mentioned his name he’s right here senior NBA Insider Adrian wowski so how did Paul George to the Sixers come together hey Jay the the door opened up for Philadelphia for a couple of reasons in La the fact that the Clippers were resistant to going to a fourth year on a Paul George extension and also uh their unwillingness to put a no trade clause in his contract there to be able to control his future there’s only one other player in the league who has one and that opened it up for Philly who was willing to go four years they had spent a year plus trying to have a Max salary slot to be able to put alongside Joel embiid Tyrese maxing to see if they could go out and find a star and they did that uh with uh Paul George and if you’re going to try to beat the Celtics in the Eastern Conference you have got to be strong at that Wing position you saw the Knicks load up OG anobi uh you know at that position mik Mel Bridges and now Paul George back to the Eastern Conference in Philadelphia all right Easter is going to be fun next season so okay much of the free agent Focus now moving to Klay Thompson and what he could do so wo what are you potentially hearing about him trying to get out of San Fran uh really two teams in this right now the Dallas Mavericks the Los Angeles Lakers he talked with both fairly extensively last night he slept on it uh certainly Dallas is in a strong position here they can do a sign in trade and get uh clay um more than the midlevel exception uh but certainly he’s got a lot of history in La his dad played for the Lakers he lives there uh a good deal of time in his off season but Klay Thompson has played his last game for the Golden State Warriors all right keep an eye on that situation also free action center Isaiah hardenstein on the Move leaving New York for OKC what more can you tell us about this move sir three years $87 million the biggest free agent deal Oklahoma City has done he fits perfectly into the West top seed uh they need certainly some physicality and size but he’s a great passing big man and you look at the off season they had in Oklahoma City Isaiah hartenstein Alex Caruso really two of the best role players in the entire NBA New York wanted to keep hartenstein they were limited in what they could offer him they could only offer four years 72 million I’m told they offered it all but for hartenstein the chance to go to Oklahoma Oklahoma City uh you know the the best team in the west last year they’re going to be even better this year hartenstein fits seamlessly into that group OKC is going to continue to be a
