[Herring] Here are six of the best NBA free agents still available — and which teams should sign them (including Paul Reed to NY)

What do you think? I’m cool on Bball Paul too after the playoffs, but if he’d take the MLE I wouldn’t hate signing him and Precious and then trading one or both at the deadline if they don’t work out.

Last paragraph makes a solid case. From the article:

Paul Reed, New York Knicks

The 25-year-old big man, whom the Philadelphia 76ers waived to make space to sign Martin, would fit seamlessly on the Knicks, who lost Isaiah Hartenstein to the Oklahoma City Thunder this offseason.

New York still has Mitchell Robinson — who is fantastic on the offensive glass (6.7 rebounds per 36 minutes) and as a defensive presence — when he's available. The center has played more than 70 games in a season once over his six-year NBA career.

Reed, however, played in all 82 regular-season games for the Sixers last season, and he is almost equally relentless on the boards, having finished ninth in the league in offensive rebounding percentage among those who played in at least 60 contests this past season.

He’s not a rim protector, and I’m tired of people ignoring that

  2. Paul Reed is Precious except he isn’t a new yorker.

Reed was useless in the regular season and in the playoffs, at least Achiuwa was somewhat able to guard Embiitch.

I dint want this guy. I want someone that knows our system and not only embraced it but succeeded in it. wonder what the hold up is on signing Precious? Leon must have a bigger plan cooking.

I think we can afford to use the roster spots (and the mle) on a center and it seems like he might be the best option. Sims, Robinson, Precious and Paul at least gives us some options to try at C. Then if they don’t exceed expectations we’ll see what comes available during the season.

Personally I had Theis higher on my list than Paul. But I still think it’d be wise to add a guy before the season starts. Regardless I trust the front office.
