Dejounte Murray takes SHOTS at former Atlanta Hawks teammates
hey what’s going on NBA fans Atlanta Hawks fans it’s your boy Anne Smitty SMI SM Sports Machine y’all know I get down man y’all know how I do it press that subscribe button also press that notification Bell to get my videos as soon as I drop them press that like button help me get my recommendations up to get my videos through the YouTube Universe great appreciate y’all as always but right quick man very quick I want to get my thoughts on an interview uh with deante Murray uh he’s with the New Orleans Pelicans after being traded from the hawson if y’all been living under the rock he was traded to New Orleans for I think uh three players two draft picks uh so as I look at this trade overall uh I understood the ramifications because you a team like the Hawks who are trying to get more cap space uh who are trying to build a younger team around Trey young uh three and D guys mainly and this we talked about on the show um I think it was the right move uh because uh as I looked at this clip that I’m about to show uh there was a lot of tension that we probably never knew about and um I think it’s only uh they kept it in the locker room and they kept it closed uh shut off to you know the outside world and they did a very good job of it because these words that he’s about to speak lets me know um there was hell attention he had a problem uh with a lot of his former teammates in Atlanta but um let’s look at the clip right quick man I’m going to let y’all judge for y’ yourself because me personally uh I took offense to it uh because uh but let’s get into it man uh I ain’t gonna hold y’all that long uh let’s see uh here we are it’s on Twitter and I found it on Twitter so um we gonna listen to it and I may stop it um doing the clip is only like a minute long uh so this 65 what that 65 seconds uh 66 seconds um if you can say so much 66 seconds that mean you had a lot of tension built up and a lot of um anger towards what was going on in Atlanta y’all got to remember um Atlanta has changed coaches uh twice uh in his two years here uh with Nate McMill into quen Schneider uh so take that into account because every coach did not coach the same conference Williamson herb Jones you said you want to be on that first team all defense with herb 100% do you value defense over offense I value uh just playing the right way and playing the right way is you know defense wins championships obviously you got to score the basketball too but uh just it’s something for me like when I know I’m playing def defense but also you got a group of guys playing defense it’s just it’s just something you can’t teach uh and the feeling of that just knowing that we’re competing on who’s guarding the best guy or you knowing that you know you got your teammates back uh that’s important so you know I love defense uh you know but pause he simply saying he don’t think everybody was getting maximum effort he seen certain guys giving maximum effort and other guys he seen uh just Lolly gagging and have doing stuff uh so he’s one of the best two-way players in the NBA I’m not goingon to lie I give him that but as a lead on this team as a veteran on this team if you see somebody slacking man you need to say something you need to pull Trey or whoever you need to pull to the side because I know that’s one of the people he’s talking about was Trey young even though to me Trey young played a little bit better on defense last year than he played in previous years uh but if you have a problem with somebody man uh if you don’t want to address it on the floor during the game y’all go to halftime locker room to regroup pull somebody to the side you see them not giving maximum effort man tell them because you’re probably Gonna Save not only the game and probably try to win the game but you’re gonna save that player’s career as well because if they’re gonna lolly gag and have do [ __ ] um you could be saving them from themselves uh and another person I think he’s talking about too is uh uh bdon banovich because uh he’s kind of a liability on defense as well and he played a little bit better last year as well but those two in the back court at the same time or if bogie is playing three wide those other two guards on the floor uh is a problem um I know he probably was talking about I could see him talking about Jaylen Johnson as well but jayen Johnson is Young he’s still developing um but one person I think he was saying that giving Max effort on defense is probably DeAndre Hunter because he’s one of the Hawk’s better Defenders uh but let’s finish this out man but it’s it’s a team thing you can have one guy playing defense or two and the rest not nothing happens so you know I’m excited to come like I said this group all and see it’s truth behind what he’s saying to a certain extent because some games the hwks would put up hell of points they would score 130 points and give up 140 some 50 point 150 points and lose by 15 so yeah defense was in some of those games last year they not giving maximum effort they just playing pickup ball running up and down the court shooting threes and I agree with that to a certain extent but again as a veteran you got to put you know your veteran hat on hey man y’all not giving MMA e we got to do better than this if we gonna win the basketball game so um yeah it part of it his fault he’s not looking at what he’s doing as a veteran as a leader of the team even though this is Trey Young’s team you still got a voice in that locker room you still got a voice uh on that bench you see something not right call him out it might motivate them to play better so I mean come on I mean why say something competes everybody wants to defend everybody wants to share the ball you know I pay attention to everything I pay attention to their interviews after the game how it’s a Brotherhood and and he’s talking about Trey young again so he’s really taking shots at Trey young his back court who probably was the one the reason why him the reason why he was came to Atlanta because I’m sure he went to the front office and told them that he wants the J Murray they’re all smiling and you know just lighting each other up uh that’s just something I want to be a part of and he’s talking about the New Orleans Pelicans at that point but um yeah man you you absolutely man as a veteran um you have to um be a leader and here’s a tweet I want to show y’all here’s a tweet that he put up that somebody put in I think it was Adan uh I think he’s a journalist I want to say uh but he said Dej would probably still be a hawk if he wasn’t one of the most horrendous perimeter Defenders uh in the league the last two years and he’s talking about that because uh he said it in the video he was saving some of his uh the coaches really basic basically told him uh guard the best player and save his energy he says it in his tweet too uh he says another casual that don’t watch Hoops or really know what’s going on with his favorite team as at coach why I begged him for me to guard the best player I was told they want to save my energy for scoring and that really doesn’t make sense because if you’re going to save your energy for scoring if you’re not going to play defense why are you calling out other players if he wants you to guard the best player and you cause turnovers that could turn into transition points so it just doesn’t make sense on so many levels if you’re so good on defense you one thing about it you’re on the floor playing the game coach tell you to do something yeah nine times out of 10 you got to do it but also you got to take accountability for what you’re doing and what’s going on the Florida in order to win the basketball game so the coach tell you to do something you tell him hey we supposed to be winning I got the play defense only way we’re going to win is play defense so this is where that pickup ball mentality I think he’s talking about uh Nate McMillan on this tweet uh but I think uh him uh trying to find a way out of this uh and not holding himself accountable uh is kind of bush League to me and it said you’ll see monster on defense uh he’s talking about this upcoming season but we’ll see man but uh yeah he should have um as a veteran player uh he should have stepped up more as a leader and uh I’m going to give you a look at his stats while he was in Atlanta right quick um he had his best year uh best year scoring wise in Atlanta uh he averaged 21 points uh in two seasons 35% from three-point range um he averaged uh 45 what that is 46% uh field goal range so you know he had a very good run in Atlanta so I’m not going to knock that but um all I’m saying man is be a better leader on the floor in the locker room uh and he’s had spats over the past and my boy Chris uh we did a show um and he was calling he was showing me the tweets uh to what well he was reading the tweets while we were doing the show as far de jante uh just going to social media spewing what’s going on so that lets me know he’s a questionable as a teammate because uh real teammates they’re leaders uh even though like I said if it’s Trey young team you see something going wrong it’s called being a vet in this league and um I just think he could have handled the situation better instead of uh just calling people out man uh and people can twist that any way they want but to me um it was kind of bush league and it really to me wasn’t even called for but um y’all see it man if y’all need to go back and look at the video again and review it man tell me what y’all think because uh me personally I think it was a shot at Trey young and a couple of other players on the team uh but drop those comments let’s debate let’s have fun man y’all know how we do it on the sports machine it’s your boy anine Smitty Smith signing off I will holl at y’all later man peace

Why are you talking so fast? Oh I had to change my settings 😂😂😂 Well we shall see like the Falcons! Tension always surrounds Atlanta sports 😂! Let me see what he talmbout! Oh I saw this video! I mean did he lie 😂! He took shots for sure!
Hes right. They didnt play hard every game. I watched the games. Me personally they shoudve traded trey young. Has no work ethic and dont take care of himself. Been the same size since college and no d. I think the hawks goin regret trading murray. Him and mr williams cj and the other boys. They can be scary
I don't think he played defense the way he was advertised…his ass was getting exposed in my eyes.
the hawks are soft, DJ waa the only one that had traes back, bogdan, CC, dre soft AF
the hawks play like pussies
Great analysis Smitty
Your assuming everything. How do you know he didnt ask to be traded? There is a reason trey young peers dont veiw him as a star. Maybe he's upset that he was saying this as a vet and no one cared? Its Atlanta. Lets be honest. Its about having money and putting on a show. Not winning. Just facts.
Cousin Smitty good analysis as usual
they beat tbe shit out of trae our best player, DJ was the only one that stood with him, CC, bogdan, dre JC no one was an enforcer for the team this team is soft
U hit the nail on the head . They really didn't get along. Both ball dominated and needed to be on different teams
I love this maybe they will show the games on the national networks and the Hawks will have the last laugh
No need to make Dejounte Murray the villain or bad guy in this. In fact, Dejounte Murray should have stayed and Trae Young should have been traded.
The Atlanta Hawks management has put Trae Young as the focal point, which is the reason the Atlanta Hawks will alwats be a mediocre NBA team at best.
Non of this is on Dejounte Murray. In fact, the Atlanta Hawks management has disrespecting Dejounte Murray for some time.
So when the Atlanta Hawks come short for the two years, who else besides Trae Young and Hawks Quinn Snyder, will the Atlanta Hawks management throw under the bus???
He's Right… This Generation is not as vocal as the older generation. But to be fair last year team was mediocre
I like him but you got traded and everything is a business decision so just take the lumps and move on don’t need to trash talk your way out
Iam not gonna lie D.M. is a better all around player than T.Y. I don't think trey's game will help the Hawks win a Ring just keeping it 💯. But he does put butts in them seats🤷🏿♂️
It definitely was a shot at Trae for sure!! But he told no lies either, I gotta give DJ props!
real talk if sarr kicks zacc ass friday there's going to be a problem
In the NBA defense is definitely a team effort. These players are too good to guard 1 on 1 realistically. I just don't think that the Pelicans are that much above the Hawks as a team.
He’s 100% right and it’s all about Quinn Snyder he doesn’t coach any defense or defensive concepts
I disagree. You piss Trae off you get fired. Thats what happened, and its a reoccurring issue. Its obvious who the real problem is.
I have no issue with what he said honestly. I really just don't like the hawks ownership. The team is not a good defensive group at all
Before DJ even set foot on the court he always preached accountability every time he was approached about the status of the team
murray should have stayed and trae should have been traded. its about winning. we won more games when trae was injured. facts are facts. problem is many hawks fans would rather see a show then win games
He did speak up..Trae is the problem, and Trae should've got traded. Hawks defense was trash last year
It’s crazy dejounte was the one who couldn’t play no fuckin defense 😂😂😂😂man f that man Trae took us to the ecf by his self wtf have dejounte doe
No he didn’t, but we can all see that Atlanta hawks really lacked on defense
DJ out of line. That's why he deleted the tweet. He threw Popavich under the bus when he left Spurs too. When he came I expected better perimeter defense. He would get blown by consistently. I think he should have took accountability instead of throwing shade and glazing the pels. I like DJ and like his game but HELL NO we should not have traded Trae and kept DJ. I don't dislike him because he said this but I think it was a little immature. He could have talked about his love for defense without referring to the previous team he was on. He will continue to grow as time goes on. Wish him success in the West. Looks like we finally building a defensive team with size around Trae. Looking forward to seeing JJ take his strides and our number 1 pick show out in the summer league.
I am a Hawks fan, but have no problem with what he said. He has a right to be mad at this team, he didn't have to resign with us before last season but he apparently wanted to stay in Atlanta and play here. I like DJ and hope he has a good season
The bad defense started with trae And spread through our locker room like a cancer you can't teach effort
0:18 Quinn Snyder should've never been hired Udoka should've been hired
