# Still Waiting to play with NBA talent ^^^^^^*tyson_played_with_walkons_at_cal
Thought Tyson exceeded expectations, esp with **what a rough night the rest of the offense had**
Team Stats:
* 39% fg * **18%** from 3!!! * negative assist to turnover (team had 21 turnovers and 16 assists)
Worse than the above, the team had no identity or rhythm all night, the best we looked (a stretch when we cut it to 11) was when Tyson took over playing on-ball before role and fit took him back off-ball
———————————————–
# Tyson went for: 15/8/2 on 50/33/(no fts) w/ 1 blk and 4 TOs
———————————————–
He showed more versatility off-ball than some thought he had as a primary option point forward at Cal with a conference leading usage %
He impacted the game in a lot of ways and showed an NBA level skillset
* Pete Nance, DJ Burns (I know that will be unpopular) and our big men looked really bad, the magic strength was in the backcourt so this is concerning for the b2b shot * Where was Luke Travers? We could have really used his connective skillset on offense and defense, we had no flow or communication out there * CPJ played on an [injured ankle](https://www.fearthesword.com/2024/7/8/24194372/cleveland-cavaliers-craig-porter-jr-says-his-ankle-injury-still-bothers-him#:~:text=Share%20All%20sharing%20options%20for,ankle%20injury%20still%20bothers%20him&text=Cleveland%20Cavaliers%20guard%20Craig%20Porter,2024%20Las%20Vegas%20Summer%20League.) and it reminded me how much that can suck to do, if your shot isn’t falling you won’t have the explosion to drive and finish you’re just screwed (why are we playing our potential backup pg injured in SL!?!??!?) * Emoni’s shot selection regressed at times going 1:1 too often, but you might remember when he scored 29 straight in college, I’ll hope we don’t see it again and chaulk it up to trying to play hero ball in a blowout…I saw better physicality than last year, remember he’s still only 20, I would still bet he finds his way to the league

Yeah he’s gonna be solid

Hopefully we can move LeVert for a wing so Tyson can get rotation minutes.

As a Berkeley alum dubs fan who can no longer afford dubs tickets I went the cal route last year and watched him pretty much every home game. What I’ll say is he’s an extremely solid player and he has it under pressure. When lebron showed up for the $c game in Berkeley you could literally feel something switch in Tyson and his plus minus after lebron walked in had to have been at least plus 15 and back to back nba range 3s inside of a minute to come away with the win. Anyways he did not look comfortable yet in my opinion. He is much better than that. Many compare him to Martin and I’ve always disagreed with that. But tonight he did look like Martin. Slower than normal. Didn’t seem as bouncy as he usually does. The more apt comparison is to Tobias Harris and I think you’ll see that side of Tyson once he gets comfortable. Aka more bounce, quicker cuts, more Shaun Livingston iso and less lebron type iso, and way way more mid range. That was his bread and butter at Cal and honestly surprised he didn’t show that off today. Ya’ll got a steal at 20. He’s way better than what he showed today.

Just a solid all around player. Really love the rebounding. He should look even better just being a role player and not being the best guy on the court for his team
I know he’s not the perfect 6’8 3&D guy that everyone wanted, but for the 20th pick that was a promising start

Was impressed by his driving. Want to see him knock down more jumpers though. Modern wing etc

That drive around the 1:00 mark? That’s an NBA drive. This kid is good.

I know it’s just one summer league game but on the offensive end, he looks like the kind of guy I hoped Okoro would be when we drafted him.
Obviously don’t expect him to be anything like Okoro on defense though.
If nothing else it’s nice to have someone out there who prefers to muscle their way through the paint rather than trying to dribble around people.

* above [average left hand](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85H1YD1GpLc&t=26s) feel around the rim (makes sense he was 88th percentil in colelge at 58% at the rim)

* [quickness/handle gets him to the rim](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85H1YD1GpLc&t=35s) in iso and in transition
* [Rejects the screen and blows by his man](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85H1YD1GpLc&t=57s), using physicality to finish over the lurking big
* [Corner 3 while spacing](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85H1YD1GpLc&t=71s)
A wing with his versatility and physicality could find his way to the 10 man rotation at some point this season
