2024. Now replace perk with James posey and you have a 7 game series
fxkatt
They were different, but equal. 8 games 4-4
PatriotMissiles
2024 because of all the 3s raining.
steel-neil
08 no doubt
Pipes_of_Pan
It amuses me how unplayable Perk would be in this matchup. Like he may not ever get off the bench. Who would he guard? I don’t think 2024 would need more than five games. Rondo v Jrue would be awesome though
69QueefLatina
Oh look it’s this thread again.
08 isn’t built to stand a chance against this team. The total overall talent of both teams is comparable but this team is better organized, plays better defense, and shoots better.
Garnett is a dawg and no one wants to disrespect his legacy but he would not be enough.
AdmiralWackbar
With the evolution of the three point shot you can’t compare the two. The games were played completely different
yup79
Does 2024 still have Al coming off the bench?
Turbulent-Income8469
It’s closer than what ppl are saying. I see this going 7 with 24 winning.
jjjuuubbbsss
Somehow, 24 team could finish it in 5 or 6 but 08 would win if it goes to 7. (I included the supporting cast)
StiHundo
KP gonna see perk and say “BBQ chicken”
rmttw
The recency bias in this thread is astounding. 2008 in 7.
RunninBuddha
2 non-shooters on the 08 team; the paint would be crowded for them. Amazing how much the league has changed.
Confirmation__Bias
The one that doesn’t have Kendrick Perkins in the rotation 🤣🤣🤣
Big-Tailor
2024 wins against 2008. The big question in my mind is if 2024 wins against 1986 or not!
Born_Championship622
Was able to watch both teams and I can honestly say they will eat Perk alive. Gentleman’s sweep.
Willis050
I think people need to remember how limited Rondo was in 08. He couldn’t shoot beyond 15 feet. His floater was still a bit shaky with his left. The defense hadn’t gone up a level to all defensive team yet. He was great. But this isn’t 2010 Rondo we’re talking about here. 2008 Rondo can’t hold a candle to White and especially not Jrue
TheRealestMarco
2024…its a math issue honestly. 2008 wouldnt be able to keep up with Mazulla ball.
oldmilt21
It’s tough. The worst player by quite a bit is Perkins. But the best is Garnett. I feel like the ‘08 would bully these guys quite a bit.
JBD04
Easily 2024. 08 team are all retired 🙄💯
GingerPele17
There is not a soul out there guarding KG. That said I think he’s the only position where there’s a clear advantage for the ‘08 roster. But really it comes down to what era are they playing the games in. It’s a much different league now and it’s not really comparable
ThxBenevenstanciano
A lot of people here are too young to remember the 08 team and it shows…
SaszaTricepa
So here’s the thing, Kendrick is unplayable here, gotta swap him with Posey as someone else pointed out, but even then the pace and shooting would probably be too much.
2008 has a damn good chance if we can get 1 player to do one thing… and that’s KG. IF KG COULD JUST TAKE A 8-12 INCH STEP BACK ON HIS AUTOMATIC SUPER LONG ASS 2 HE ALWAYS TOOK then yes 2008 would now have 3 absolute snipers from 3 which would take the series 6-7 in my opinion.
Edit: no seriously I need to get on this soap box. Kevin Garnett is literally maybe a foot of space away on his wheelhouse shot from being the greatest 3 point shooter who ever lived. I don’t think I ever saw that man miss a 22-23 footer. This dude had to have shot fucking 80% from the international 3 point range and did it so fucking much it’s outrageous. Literally one step back. That’s all it would’ve taken.
SynAckSynAckAck
Play kg at the 5 and watch him murder these guys at the post
linkxrust
08 sorry boys, KG to quick for porzigus, Rondo an assist king pops to Allen for a 3
dotdotslashdotslash
This would be interesting. ’08 I think would control the boards better, while ’24 are arguably more athletic. I don’t think the ’24 team could stop Garnett inside or around the perimeter, and Doc Rivers would use Perk and Big Baby to wear down the fragile Porzingis over the series. That could be critical over the course of the series.
Someone else said Jrue vs Rondo would be awesome, and I agree. While Rondo was emerging, he wasn’t “quite” there yet, so this matchup could be the key factor of the entire series. Although, I could see Doc using Sam Cassell’s experience to spell Rondo and change things up a bit.
Another big factor is what era are they playing in, in terms of rules? Depending on how strict/lenient the officials are would be major. I don’t see the ’24 team being able to handle the physicality of the ’08 squad should the officials just let them play. BUT, if the refs are as strict as nowadays, virtually anything is a foul and that physicality is neutralized.
Even with Ray and Truth, the ’08 team is not as capable from behind the arc, and the ’24 team could benefit greatly from this. They could also suffer should Tatum and Brown go cold.
I think, in the end, that the ’24 team would take the series, but that the series would go to six games.
KotWmike
08′. Allen and Perk are on JT and JB’s level. No one on 24′ is at KG’s level. 24’s depth is young, 08’s depth are looking for a title.
My opinion comes in a vacuum where it’s essentially a 7 game pick-up series. I think it’s useless to compare play calling and styles of different eras. That said, have the 08′ team come up like the 24′ team did and you’re sitting perk, staring KG at 5 with Posey / PP as forwards. Ray and PP are shooting 10+ 3’s a game and KG has a developed 3. House still works, Powe is still a hustler off the bench and Perk/PJ give KG some rest.
Reverse that and I don’t think the 24′ team plays well in 08′. They aren’t taking 30 3’s a game and KP / JT (I LOVE THEM) are getting bullied by 08’s physicality.
24′ beats 08′ with 24′ game sense and rules.
08′ wins with 08′ conditions.
08′ wins in a pick-up style based on player skill alone.
(I love you some much 24′ but 08′ is an insanely underrated championship team)
