Garrett Jackson | Postgame Houston Rockets Vs Los Angeles Lakers | 2024 NBA Summer League

Crow coach it’s one thing to to see Reed and practice but to see how he came out in his first game summer league how would you describe how you played I felt he I just thought he looked comfortable he looked really confident he looked comfortable um I thought he did a good job getting us in our stuff and then just being aggressive like he’s a smart player he’s a great shooter and I thought he displayed that tonight in the first half it looked like he was almost a little too determined to get you into the sets and run things did he sort of loosen up and just play after that definitely think that I think he loosened up um it looked like he was just playing he wasn’t thinking he was just making the right reads um a you got to keep in mind too he just met a lot of these guys he’s learning how to play with Cam and Jean and those guys but I thought once he did a good job setting it up then he was able to be himself and be aggressive it really seemed like cam took it upon himself to to be coaching up Le talking to him game what were you seeing from a leadership perspective from cam tonight I mean that’s one of the benefits of having somebody like cam Play Summer League it’s like not only does he get like more game reps but also he gets to kind of help out people like rud so um I think that’s invaluable so and I’m happy that Cam’s doing that I’m happy that Cam’s showing leadership I think cam just turned 20 like a week ago so it was awesome to see him like grow in that leadership role so did you notice anything different with Reed in that third quarter where he scor like 12 13 points not necessarily I think he just stayed the course he was just steady I think I mean he shot it a lot more but I think he was very he kind of let the game come to him he didn’t force anything I think the game kind of kind of told him to be a like he was being aggressive the whole time but I thought he was making the right read but I thought anytime we could get him playing pick and roll in space especially like high on the court and he’s able to make reads and and attack EGS and pull up and shoot I think that’s a a great thing for us there were a couple possessions early where Reed closed out really long on bronny was that what you wanted or did you have to sort of say no no don’t let him go off the dribble I mean not necessarily I think some of those situations were like scramble situations so I think he probably just overran that close out um we didn’t have a game plan of like hey oh like close out long close out short we knew we know what kind of player he is but um we kind of let those guys especially a player like read as smart as he is on the defensive end and offensive end we kind of like give them freedom to kind of read the game that’ll come in about 5 months when you have game plans yeah yeah yeah how much of the um first half would you say was a testament to re all around G CU everyone knows what he can do with scoring and shooting but we saw his doing a lot of facilitating defense and all other and I think that’s the type of player that you’re going to get you’re going to get somebody who’s just reading the game facilitating he’s at the point guard position so I rely on him I’m lucky to have him this my first time coach in summer league and having a a guard like him who can kind of make my job easier as far as like getting us into stuff and then obviously he’s a great passing great shooter I think that’s just great so how did you feel about some of the offensive execution when Reed was being played uh I thought it was fine I thought it was pretty good um I would like us to just move the ball more like just make quicker decisions I think if that happens the ball will find Shooters like GRE so I think off ball I like that I think he ran a play uh Point like away where he’s like coming over and he’s got a shot out of that so that was good so I don’t know we’ll look to experiment a little bit and see him off ball as well as on B so coach there were a few times where he was able to use his defensive instincts in the pink to get through deflections how much have you seen from that obviously from the prear process and see it can impact the game on that side of the floor so I think that’s where honestly that that type of instincts kind of reminds me of Fred a little bit like Fred’s not the tallest guy but he’s very smart defensively and he’s got quick hands and he knows how to jump Lanes Reed is very similar uh I think like inside it’s not the greatest Advantage like he can get overwhelmed with like a bigger player a 68 guy but I think on the perimeter he’s got quick hands if you play with it down here he’s going to take the ball he’s really smart he’s good at shoot uh shooting the passing Lanes like jumping passing Lanes so he’s got good instincts so I think that’s a I think he displayed that tonight so what would you like to see from AJ in in this week uh I’d like to see him to just be more aggressive uh make better decisions with the ball I think he made pretty good decisions overall I liked his aggressiveness I think he’s very valuable on the defensive end I think he can guard bigs as well as Smalls and he can shoot it he’s a pretty good shooter when he’s got the speed set so I think him being able to make decisions when he has the ball and then also being ready to shoot off the balls cuz we need him to be aggressive in order for us to be good team that ball movement you were talking about before with quicker decisions will that lead to more catch and shoot opportunities I think so I think CU Anytime you could uh drive and get inside out threes where you get two feet in the paint you kick out I think those are some of the best shots in basketball so that those Inside Out threes you’re already squared and looking at the basket so and that’s good for him it’s great for him yeah it’s great for all of us what was your reaction when when he gotten his bag a little bit against D’s neck there um I was just happy we were scoring and winning and or that we were playing well as a team I wasn’t really looking at it as like him getting in his bag I kind of just saw it more like it was nice to see him getting a rhythm and getting confident and then our guys playing off it and finding him so nice one for coach or you guys
