yeah yo what’s going on everybody uh hope everybody had a good weekend hope it was blessed there was a lot going on this weekend and we are going to try to tackle every single thing in this video been like okay you know we we have something that’s not to say that Demar de rozan is whack because I don’t think he whack he had 24 game last year and as fast as you dudes play and the way you get up and down the way you shoot the long ball the way you guys play in transition I still think that’s conducive to to dear I want to say Lamar I’m sorry to De to Demar de rozen’s game but with that being said he still plays in the mid-range he doesn’t really shoot the long ball like that which is great one of the other things that you guys do is Sacramento does defend and thead Rosen isn’t one of the better defenders in the game and does this really does this push you guys over the top I mean how much more competitive does this make you when you get a guy on The Crew That’s averaging 24 game I but what kind of 24 is it so I’m not saying I’m not saying that I’m not saying that Demar de rozan is whack I want to make sure that we Clay on that I don’t think he’s whack I I do not I’m just trying to make sense of what the expectation is with Demar de R rozan getting on the crew and on top of that and on top of that real quick and and on top of that how does this enhance the development of guys like uh Ross uh Ellis of of of guys like that how does how does this enhance guys like him what does this do for Keegan Murray guys like that that’s what I’m thinking about this well this doesn’t hinder any of that this doesn’t hinder them at all especially now Keon Ellis like I mean Keon I don’t think Keon gonna get too much better regardless of who’s on the team anyway but you you say what type of 24 is this this is the type of 24 that we need we don’t got mid-range scores we don’t got we don’t we got we got a couple ISO guys like nobody can stand in front of dear Fox but you know what I’m saying we got Malik but other than that we don’t really have a a give it to give it to you and go like yeah uh uh Damas might get on his bully on the Block every once in a while whatever but like we need we need a guy that can that can score in the mid-range we need a guy that we can give the ball to that’s not named de Fox with seven seconds or less on the shot clock and that’s DeMar rosen y’ see I and I’ve said it before even before dear I even thought Demar could even come to sack I don’t think Demar is a bad Defender you know what I’m saying and our our issue isn’t even perimeter defense anyway our our a lot of our uh issues is at The Rim you know what I’m saying the problem is that most people and I’m not speaking on you I’m speaking on most people in the comment section and whatnot and around the world because Mars has a big voice they have let Mars convince and and I I told no way you’re blaming me Mars did I not tell you I warned you at least a year ago jul yes Mar I told you I told you Mars when you speak everybody listens but you’re gonna you’re gonna convince everybody that the Marty rosen’s bad at basketball and that’s what you did I’ve never said he’s bad at basketball but but but you know but when you said what you said that’s what they hear now I’m not blaming you Mar I’m just saying you you you got you got a level of responsibility you got you gotta you got to handle that with care you know what I’m saying you got a voice you got motion you got to handle that with care Demar de rozan you know what he does for year because you asked you asked I’ll mid-range scoring the iso scoring like that that ISO scoring the midrange what would he he brings us what we didn’t have right that’s what we didn’t have that’s what we needed you know what I’m saying and and now we got it and okay go ahead go ahead speaking speaking of bringing something I don’t know but the boogeyman is in the west now you know who the boogeyman is for the M de rozan right who it is about sabonis but when he see when he see Anthony Davis he’s he’s he ready to get it on when he see only only one team there’s only one team we’re scared of here I I I don’t know what that’s Pelicans I respect OKC I respect the Mavericks I respect I respect all the teams in the west but I’m not I’m not going to be humble just because just because what for what I gotta tell the truth Debo’s coming I think you know what the problem is chill everybody scared they scared you know how you know you know how people be quiet they look around and then their first instinct is just to to talk talk mess and bring up the past and all that oh it’s a it’s a new de like I’m doing right now chill are you scared chill not at all all right you should be because de coming yeah not at all I just Ron I’m just saying man the value that that demal de Rosen brings to This Crew is undeniable you can’t when 24 game don’t get me wrong and somebody gotta lead a bad team in scoring somebody gota lead a bad team in assist somebody gota lead a bad team in rebound all I get all of that but Demar de R Roan has always been a bucket getter no matter where he’s been whether he was in Toronto whether he was in s Antonio whether he was in Chicago he’s always been a bucket getter and even at his Advanced age he could still score and he could score in a variety of ways he’s never really been that much of a long ball shooter and I’m thinking about how he fits into I’m thinking about how he fits into Sacramento the fact that they play as fast as they do not only the fact that they play as fast as they do the isolation scorer that he is and how Mike Brown will draw up stuff for him I’m just thinking about when you’re playing against teams where they do a lot of hunting especially in Western Conference guys get hunted we saw what the Boston Celtics did with Luca and I’m not saying that dear de rzan is as bad a Defender as Luca no I’m not saying that at all but the Golden State Warriors the Lakers the the Oklahoma City Thunder they do a great job in hunting mismatches and Demar de R rozan who has not really been that much of a defender in the past the not just the Lakers the Western Conference they do a great job offensively in hunting guys I’m worried about that with Sacramento in particular because a guy like him who’s that intrical and what you guys are doing offensively he’s going to be on the floor defensively we can’t keep just trading buckets with guys we got to slow guys down and if if teams are gonna go after him on a consistent basis I worry about what that’s gonna look like don’t forget don’t forget we we did it without giving up Kevin H we got all of our shooting we got our shooting we got Kevin we got Malik we got Keegan we got Shooters Trey L shout to all our shooters for everybody out there this was a three- team trade um yes the Kings did give up Chris diarte and they gave up Harrison Barnes Harrison Barnes went to the Spurs so I thought that was a pretty good pick up for the Spurs Kings obviously got demard de R Ro in and then the Bulls received Chris diarte in two first round picks that was the official trade it was I think we’re going to start seeing well not even think we have seen a lot of signing trades just due to the new Dynamic of the NBA so that’s how it will move on going forward at least for the foreseeable future but Mars and pin I want to hear from you guys on this trade pin I know you have spent a lot of time watching Demar D rozan you probably watch Demar D rozan more than everybody not only on on the panel right now but in the chat with you being a Toronto guy can you let me know just how does this how does this work out and does he Elevate the Kings so many thoughts so many thoughts first of all I mean Ox probably one of my favorite people here but like favorites is crazy I’m it’s not that it’s not that crazy I mean I think it’s pretty crazy I’m just I’m just saying that I mean and second you know to to the point about Mars and like yo like Demar has been bad at defense since before dear since before Mars was born Mars definitely didn’t do that I promise you Demar has never been a great defender but I will tell you this anchoring bias is real when people get introduced to a prospect they get introduced to a player he develops a reputation burns out in the playoffs a couple times people assume that’s who he is and then when he goes to San Antonio and he goes to Chicago and he evolves his game people don’t pay attention because they’re not watching him anymore you’re not making deep playoff runs so I want to say like I’m not going to stand here and tell you that this is a perfect fit for the Kings it’s not a perfect fit for the Kings he’s a great player he’s a really good player so defensively you’re being nice saying he’s he’s you know he’s not a bad Defender he is a bad Defender he’s very limited he’s Limited in the team scheme he’s limited versatility wise he cannot guard up too much we watched it time and time again in Toronto this is a part of his game that has not evolved very much the part of his game that has evolved a lot since his days in Toronto is his playmaking and um overall his efficiency as a player like where he gets a shot how he gets a shot what types of shots he turns down what types of shot shots he turns up M and also last year was one of his lowest usage years which is important too when you’re playing game when you’re playing off of two guys because I think a lot of people might be thinking dear’s been the man on a lot of bad teams now he’s coming on to a team where he’s not the first option that’s Deen Fox’s team that’s that’s maybe gon to go through sabonis how’s he playing off those guys is he gonna be comfortable well yeah I mean he played off of other guys before he’s played off of LaVine now he’s played off of guys so you know I think that is a good it’s a good situation and I’ll tell you like just again watching watching Demar since Compton [ __ ] I’m I’m I’m I’ve been a fan of this guy since he was 15 years old he’s one of my favorite players in high school I loved him I drafted him to I drafted him to the Toronto Raptors in 2K year after year after year and then he finally became a raptor I was so happy he did not become the player that I thought he would be in high school very different type of player but man I think we owe we the north to this dude best culture Setter best teammate ever the minute he got to the Chicago Bulls he wanted all his young teammates he wanted their digits he wanted them to feel like connected he shown up to I dumu like Jersey he’s just is a really solid dude and you consider everything he’s been through with his parents everything where he comes from all the depression stuff that he’s talked about he’s just a realest dude I tell you right now when dear left culture left Toronto a lot of you know everything you heard about the Raptors being dysfunctional all that stuff with Fred Van vet all that stuff selfishness that did not happen with DeMar rosen he built this thing up he is a very loyal dude I think he’s going to be great for the young players I hope that they have a good idea of how to fit him in basketball-wise defensively I am concerned I am concerned about the kings that did not Shore up their perimeter perimeter defense Keon Ellis is a revelation became one of my favorite like signings last Year y’all found a gem I love that guy um but I’m I’m curious about you know because Harrison Barnes is not a bad Defender Harrison bar is a very good Team Defender very smart guy very good very good and you’re losing that and you’re replacing with more offense and there’s only one basketball that’s the thing I’m worried about that part right there we got I mean no go ahead go ahead go that’s the part that’s the part I’m worried about o when when and you’ve been an advocate of this particularly with the Milwaukee Bucks when they handed over Drew holiday the fact that what you did was you tra all of that traded all of that defense for offense you didn’t get any of that defense back Zer this ain’t the same this ain’t the same thing as that way different than that because first of all first of all dear Rosen is a better Defender than than Damen Lillard and Harrison Barnes is not close to the defender of Drew holiday all although although Harrison Barnes I I value I value Harrison Barnes like I really like Harrison Barnes off the court on the court I like everything about Harrison bars I have nothing negative to say about him but it was time for him to go um and as far as our defense goes yeah Deen Fox is a hell of a perimeter Defender Keon Ellis is a hell of a perimeter Defender Keegan Murray is a hell of a Defender Uh Kevin even Kevin herder is is is good on on defense you know what I’m saying so I I don’t once again I’m our our problem is at The Rim our problem is damont sabonis not be not being a great uh rim rim protector sure yeah rim protector so that’s that’s the issue for us I don’t think the I don’t think the issue is out there like we we play defense I’ve been saying this for two seasons so feel like you got enough so do you feel like you have enough guys I mean we’ve had this conversation before about being able to hide guys do you have enough guys do you feel like on the perimeter to protect Demar de rozan that’s the million dollar question I’m not I’m not I’m not of that mindset I don’t I’m not thinking about protecting dear de rozen the reason why I’m like Demar play B we’re gonna score 150 that’s that’s the problem we’ll score 170 okay you could you could but here’s the problem if you gonna give up 150 you’re gonna give up 155 dear Rose is not the reason we’re gonna give up 150 Mike Brown isn’t and Ox we’re talking about getting to the rim it’s not like they’re dumping the ball down and you’re going to play against Shaq every trip no that’s not the issue the problem is that you do have a bunch of guys particularly in the Western Conference that are damn good on the perimeter and they got to get to the rim okay I know your issue is at The Rim but getting around and getting to the rim we got to get guys who can slow guys down and the point that you just brought up dearon Fox uh Ellis guys like that who can protect demard de rozan because again they’re G to go after him 100% they’re going to go after him I can appreciate your logic about him being Debo on offense because he does bully guys but 100% in the Western Conference they in terms of offense schemes they hunt guys and they hunt guys on the regular and a guy like Demar de rozan who’s been known not to be that much of a Defender and who can that can be a hole they will go after him so that’s the situation that Mike Brown who’s a very good defensive mind he’s gonna have to fix that I mean the teams if to me it looks like team take what you give them if we if we don’t give it to them they not gonna take it you know what I mean so that’s that’s how I look at it and it’s not like I mean who do we got who do we got that’s gonna really pick on the mo um that we’re gonna let pick on the more like I’m not gonna count Luca because he’s gonna pick on anybody it doesn’t matter who who you put in front of Shay you know Shay we I’m not I like Shay trust me Shay Shay is a issue Shay is a very big issue but you know that’s that’s that’s one that’s a perfect example for that team right there Demar don’t never have to go anywhere near sh you know what I’m saying like they got they got so many like think Jay dub is Keegan Murray is pretty much in my opinion like he is your only above neutral Defender apart from Keon Ellis here’s the problem though you’re Clos got respect de respect Deon car respect de Carter he’s going to be there this year he’s going to be he he will be this year on a team we’ll we don’t know yet your your score is we don’t know that Rond we don’t know anything we don’t know I doubt I doubt he’ll close I doubt 110 it’s it’s five minutes to go in the fourth quarter your lineup your closing lineup at minimum includes three defensive massive defensive liabilities at minimum possibly you think Fox is a liability he’s not far from that I don’t think that he is as great a Defender as a lot of people think because of his on ball pressure and because of his peskiness and because of his activity level you’re missing the other parts of where what’s more what’s more what’s more important than all on ball pressure talking about the last five look man it’s team team defense screen navigation Rim defense potentially getting crossmatch there’s a lot of things where I could I could say someone who is slight of build like Deen Fox can be your weakest defender in a good defense but he cannot be your third best defender in a good defense what do you mean slight build he is a very slight build player he’s very he’s very Keon Ellis is skinny too to be but Keon Ellis is bigger and stronger than than de fox in my opinion no I agree stronger than I I think picked up on the word liability I wouldn’t call Dar Fox a liability I can understand in situations certain situations you’re you’re gonna he’s not he’s not Drew holiday he’s not Derek white like he’s not in the upper echelon of guards you could you can call him a neutral Defender you can say he’s like average right but he’s not great in my opinion he’s not great Keegan Murray last year I was a little bit dubious my boy covers the Kings he messaged me he’s like yo Keegan really turned a corner defensively I didn’t believe him but I looked into the tape Keegan Murray really did turn he turned it defensively bigger athletes are always going to have that positional versatility angle where they’re going to be able to guard multiple places they’re going to be guarding lower third of the floor upper third of the floor that’s what I’m saying like I don’t want Dean Fox guarding at The Rim but enough movement will put him at a position at The Rim you know what I mean that’s what I say defensive liability anytime you’re small in the NBA you’re going to be somewhat of a liability unless you are generational Defender you’re going to be somewhat of a liability and damont sabonis is in my opinion a terrible Defender so him and Malik monk now y’all heard me say I love leak monk I put him in the third tier whatever and got into a lot of beef on that and you back me up and said Malik is nice I don’t think Malik Monk’s a good Defender that’s the only thing I throw against him he’s not a good Defender I’m really curious how Malik Monk and demard de Rosen don’t overlap a ton in terms of skill sets as Playmakers right de Fox the playmaker on ball Malik monks a playmaker on ball DeMar rosen playmaker on ball damont sabonis also needs the ball a lot right these ho ho ho I want to make sure I’m following you here are we saying that Malik Monk and dear Fox are on the same level is that what we oh that no no no no no I’m not saying that I’m saying if it was Malik monk not closing a lot of lineups with him last year well he is he is one of the better offensive players I won’t argue that he’s incredible yeah sure so what I’m saying is obious CL theine close the lineup sure I can get try to construct a closing lineup where you don’t put one of your best offensive one of your four best offensive players on the bench without becoming a Turn Style defensively and I’ll I’ll hold my breath like you don’t have a Rudy goar back there to clean up all this mess that you’re creating on on the perimeter right like it’s just about it’s just about ADV right it’s advantages you got advantages Galore if I’m a team if I’m an opposing team if I’m the OKC Thunder I’m licking my chops right now you don’t got anybody that can guard any of my guys literally one any any of your guys like meaning who Shay and Jay du that’s all we’re talking about it’s also not just Personnel like CH being able to extend the floor sa bonis is going to be he’s going to get valent Tunis in terms of against it’s the vertical yeah I’m just saying that’s how it look if you feel this Kings roster in 2005 I’m gonna pick you guys to like be Western Conference Finals straight up 205 this team I just build a time machine put him in 2005 this looks pretty good to me this looks pretty good you know uh there’s not a lot of stretch bigs in the league I’m not going to be able to extend the floor up for Damonte sabonis to really hunt him he just gets to be in the post you know he’s guarding the post but now you got you got teams where the big is literally launching from 27 feet and you’re going to have issues with a guy who’s laterally compromised okay this the thing this the thing like we what’s what’s the lineup with with OKC that we’re talking about is is CH is CAD the five is Isaiah the five what are we doing we’re putting hypothetical lineups on the floor I want to know what stop I’m having a difficult time and I want y I want y to keep going if we got they got if they got CAD on the floor I’m fine with I’m I’m fine at I’m fine at any point in the game if ch’s if chat’s on the floor with is hardenstein I’m 100% comfortable with with demontis and Trey or or damont and Keegan I’m not worried about sh the way y’all act like I should be worried about sh like this is you know I don’t see you’re not worried about might be an issue for talking about Al alexo cannot guard might he might be the best perimeter onballer in the G he might be he might be the best on ball perimeter in the game to get his ass CED specifically talking about the starting lineup and who they play at the it’s clearly known at the four OKC does not put a lot of size out there JB starts at the four what I’m trying to say is ESS they’re stting two seven Footers now do know come off the bench he’s starting I I he might but I don’t think he yeah I don’t I don’t think he’s gonna start I don’t think it makes a difference he’s these guys come when when that second unit comes into the basketball game for us it changes everything our second unit is the is a top five uh uh Squad in the in the league bro and I don’t I don’t starting who is a starter if he come off the bench he might not be as effective so those guys set the tone for the game he need to go home he not he he not no he need to go home Isaiah honstein thrived his bir I always felt likein was a rotation big I always felt like that I always felt like he was a rotation big but I feel like with $87 million 15 Mill I don’t think he I don’t think he took a $15 million increase in his in his salary to come off the bench again I doubt very seriously that was the case for Oklahoma City I think that they’re going to put him on a stting five he’s going to make 87 million whenever he starts yeah that’s what said he took as much money as he could get in a words get as much money as you could get you’re worth you’re worth What A team’s willing to pay absolutely think that they paid him that to be a rotation guy though I think we’ve seen did Malik monk just got a fat contract to be a bench guy we’re talking about the best rotation he he got the cheapest that was I mean he he would have got more you see what I’m saying so so legitim legitimately he took less money to come off the bench so that’s what I’m saying like why would Isaiah hardenstein not take more money to come off the bench it I’m assuming it’s other players in the NBA that get paid as much as I say hardenstein or even more and they come off the [ __ ] one of the top 14 centers in the league it would be pretty criminally insane for him to come off the bench in my opinion for Chad’s one of the 14 te better than him so but um no that’s fair but Chad Chad’s not a five a four he been he been a five since college so I mean that’s that’s different a ton of advantages you know playing those guys together and I don’t see why you negate that for frankly anybody L they will play they will play together I just don’t know if they’ll start but like this like this why I keep saying it doesn’t matter to me because they’re gonna play a lot of minutes together whether he starts or comes off the bench so absolutely look the old school like way of thinking about basketball is like a shrunken floor right you go watch Bulls highlights Lakers highlights whatever you’re looking at lower third of the floor is like congested right you got the power forward the small all that stuff right at some point somebody realized I don’t know if it was Muhammad Abdul rou or if it was Steph Curry or Steve C somebody realized the floor is longer than it is wide and you want to tell me like oh is shooting like a little bit overrated with bigs that’s why because bigs have naturally been conditioned to jump to the paint in transition they’re always they’re geared since run to the rim and protect the rim and then spray out when you have a big like Chad homr the amount of pressure that it puts on the rest of your roster to cover up for a big who cannot run back to the rim or a big who forgets and it’s like oh shoot I forgot chat coming up coming down uh you know splashing a three that’s the difference the fact that damont sabonis cannot really do that at a high level frankly to me it takes the Kings away from that because he’s always in the paint that’s that’s an area of the floor that that’s a lie that’s a lie you don’t you don’t have to be to stretch the floor you don’t have to be because damont simonis is going to do a lot of great stuff in terms of as a screen Setter right but at the end of the day if he’s standing 25 feet away from the basket I can drop as a big I can I can go I can fall back the minute I can fall back as a big and you’re gonna find this out when we talk about the FEA basketball and we see the fever rules where there’s no defense of 3 seconds you’re going to shut down angles for you know your penetrators right your guys like dearen Fox your guys like Malik monk guys who are quick twitch you know get get to the dribble and also for guys like demard de Rosen everything the Boston Celtics taught us in the finalist is all about extending gaps right everything is about extending gaps in terms of creating maximum space for your players right that’s what the Nuggets did that’s what the Celtics did literally the same formula has been winning the NBA championship for years we just keep calling it different because it’s a different team The Warriors it was all about pace and space everything’s about space so I don’t know how demard de Rosen plus Damonte sabonis Works in this era where neither one of these guys is someone that I need to chase off the line in in terms of three-point shooting they operate in the same areas on the court that’s my issue and it’s the same issue I not just standing the the Kings the Kings offense the Kings actually run one of the more free in offenses of course and they run it they run it through dear and they have a lot of off ball movement they have a lot of ball movement dribble handoffs and things of that nature the Kings Don’t just run a high picking roll with dear and sabonis and then just call it that they don’t just run isolations with Malik mon I actually don’t think demard de Rosen is gonna get as many isolations as you guys think he will he he might get like when the shot clock breaks down and stuff like that he might get something there um obviously he’s GNA play when dear Fox isn’t on the floor so he’ll he’ll obviously have more more of a c cart blanch to do what he wants to at that moment in time but the Kings play basketball that’s where the right there what you just said Ron that’s where the isolations are are going to come in that free flowing offense we don’t necessarily have to run sets to get isos we can I could get on a on a on a curl cut I could get on a down screen I could get in transition I could get an isolation so in fact I think he’s going to get more isolations than you think because of how fast Sacramento plays and it might not look like it because you’re not running a double screen where Demar de R Roan comes off with double screen and you clean out the left side of the floor you clean out the right side of the floor you get him on the elbow and it’s just him and another guy no I think it’s going to be a lot different where you get a lot of action and with the action that you get when he’s coming off the screen it’s just him and one him and somebody else one-on-one and there other stuff going on and he ends up taking the guy so I think he’s gonna get isolated a lot more because of that action that you talk about I think the problem here is DeMar rosen with the basketball is a completely different player than Demar d r rozan without the basketball correct right so you got got like Harrison Barnes right even if you consider Harrison Barn more of a stationary shooter Corner shooter than a movement shooter you get a guy like Kevin herder who in the first year when the kings were good you know and that they light the beam and they lit the beam all over the NBA Kevin herder was a very important part of that I feel like last year he got a little bit more buried in my opinion a little bit more buried when you say buried do you mean hurt and wasn’t even on the floor is that what you mean by bar that’s what happened we don’t we don’t don’t look the same we don’t look the same without Kevin herder on the floor if we don’t replace that with a shooter so I understand shooting is very important espe it’s not it’s not just shooting it’s not shooting it’s moving and that’s what that’s and that’s what we do we don’t we don’t just we don’t just catch and stand and shoot we’re moving Kevin Kevin herder and Keegan Murray they’re coming off the down picks a movement shooter he doesn’t have to be that’s I’m that’s that’s why I need y’all to start understanding I need y to understand that we don’t got to do the same thing over and over you don’t I don’t he doesn’t have to do what he does on the basketball court it’s like keevin dear de Rosen brings something that we did not have I’m saying like and on top of that on top of that Coach Brown is he do if y’all think that y’all see something that Coach Brown doesn’t see if y’all think that that we’re sitting here talking about this Co Brown isn’t on his whiteboard with his assistance having a war room figuring out how are we going to implement dear rosan into this how how are we how are we going to how are we gonna get how are we gonna make this happen are we gonna play dear Rosen the same way we played Kevin herder no are we gonna do the same thing with dear Rosen that we do with with uh uh Keegan Murray no because they’re not bra they’re not brain head coaches like you got you gotta be brain dead to think that I’m gonna play dear Rosen in the same way I play Kevin her you know why the Mavericks signed Klay Thompson no I don’t because it makes life easier for the top two guys that’s why that’s how that’s why rosters are constructed top down not bottom up okay my issue with this entire thing and if I could sum it up like this I don’t if I’m an opposing team are you talking about Mike Brown at his whiteboard well let me tell you there’s 29 coaches at their whiteboard and you know what I’m writing on my whiteboard if I’m one of those 29 coaches I don’t care about demard Rosen inside of 20 feet 18 feet which means you can run around because he’s a 29% three-point shooter on his career and he does not take a high volume of them and he has never Tak but why why are you not why are you not worried about him why are you not worried about him inside 20 20 feet Co that’s that’s fine why would okay hold on which means that in order for him to be on my radar as in yo send something to him help he has to have the ball in his hands which is not necessarily a great thing if I have better creators than him better downhill attackers more efficient paint finishers like Malik monk or you know de fox or whatever if I believe that those guys it’s a lot of redundancy is what I’m saying you you’ve added a lot of redundancy Demar de rozan is is a very good player I just feel like too much of a good thing can be a bad thing if you get my drift his like like what he does what his what his best skill is don’t don’t don’t worry about the stimulation don’t worry about you know hypothetical don’t worry about 2k I’m saying what his best role is is as a secondary or primary Creator on maybe an elite spacing team that can make up for the fact that teams don’t guard him above the break they don’t guard him in the corner and when he doesn’t have the basketball you’re in trouble because his Defender is always going to be sagging in the middle always going to be sagging the passing Lane always going to be looking off of him and that’s the problem you put him in the corner you run him off a pistol action you run him whatever you unless you put the ball in his hands or you put him in the dunker spot or you put him in the mid post and by the way those spaces are occupied on the court right now where are you putting him if you’re putting sabonis there and you can say movement movement movement movement doesn’t matter it doesn’t matter you not watch do you not watch this play of course when is the Monas just sitting on sitting on the Block when is the montis sitting on the on the in the D Spot when is the when is the montis in these spots that you’re talking about when is is occupying the same space in your lineup as Harrison Barnes so while I understand the argument that the Casual fan will say demard de R rozan is better than Harrison Barnes no debate here I agree with that I’m saying for what you’re trying to do which is to create space and opportunity for your two best players which are damont sabonis and Deen Fox who is doing a better job at creating space for those players because again he’s not Klay Thompson Demar de Rosen is not a threat he’s not like you understand like people say this guy can shoot because he shot 32% I promise you there’s not a team in the league that is guarding a 32% three-point shooter they’re daring him to shoot because that’s a bad shot that’s 5% below League average you’re not guarding a guy at that and it’s honestly there are guys who are 38% three-point Shooters they’re not guarded either because they don’t take enough you got but you got you got to understand that there’s adjustments made I’m it’s not just it’s not just as simple as oh it’s not just as simple as oh we traded Harrison it’s not it’s not just as simple as we traded Harrison Barnes now we got DeMar rosen now we put DeMar rosen with Harrison Barnes that’s just not how you do it no you’re gonna run different stuff for him he’s gonna have different responsibilities but I’m saying what can you do with him that helps dearn Fox and damont sabonis what can he do without the basketball now I’m he can move without the ball that’s how you do you move anywhere you want I’m not guarding you what is he a great screener you’re not guarding you he’s not a great screener what what are we talking about not so so you don’t so you don’t so you don’t guard you don’t guard Cutters just because just you’re telling me if some wait wait no no P we get back door Cuts set a weapon screen off that if that is what you’re saying then you are you are basically redefining who demard D rzan is as a player you are asking him to do something that I have we’re questioning whether or not dear Rosen can be a a cutter a slasher and set off ball screens we’re question I’m not asking if I’m not I’m not questioning if he can do that he’s a professional basketball player no [ __ ] can do that I’m asking can do that at an efficient enough rate to help your other players because he’s not the most important player on your team he’s not the second most important player on the team and Frank he by the end of this contract or by the middle of this contract he might not be the third best player on your team but pin I think years old but P already CLE but p I think that we’re getting off of what exactly Demar de rozan is for This Crew like we can’t leave out when guys get on teams what they’re brought there for he a 24 game guy you talk about him screen now now we want to turn him an off now we’re gonna turn him into an off ball screener now we’re gonna turn him into a a a playmaker that’s driving addition now we gonna turn him into all that stuff right I understand that but he’s been doing a lot of the stuff that you talking about he might not do it at the rate that you’d like him to do it but he’s been doing that stuff throughout his career he does play off the basketball in fact I feel like his better years were when he played with Kyle Lowry off the basketball I thought those were I thought those was his best years when he played the two guard to be quite honest with you but with that being said now playing in an offense with Mike Brown who will put him in different spaces he’s not going to leave him at the long ball line because that’s not his game that’s not what he’s there for but he will put him in the dunker spot he will put him on the Baseline because he’s a slasher because he’s got a damn good mid-range game and that’s gonna move defenses that’s GNA drag defenses away from the basket and with him being able to do that dear de rozan has a very lit very it’s very it’s very difficult to keep Demar de rozan away from the basket throughout his career he’s always been one of the better guys who can get to the rim always been his career no matter who’s been in front of him he’s always been able to do that so the the the the idea with Demar de rozan is we know who he is as a bucket getter and that’s who he’s gonna be how he’s gonna be used Mike Brown can come up with a with a number of different ways to use him without having to solely use him or primarily use him on the long ball line fellas I gotta step in and I gotta ask you Mars because I’ve seen you draw up magnificent plays in so much I can’t believe that you don’t have a head coaching job Mars Mars ain’t running nothing for me ever Mars nut runs nothing for me we not running we not running pups man we good don’t drw nothing for me ever I could play I could play 18 feet Mar don’t run nothing for me if you can play 22 I’d have you but 18 dude don’t run nothing for me Mars let’s pretend like you are the Sacramento King’s coach your name is Mars Brown okay Mars Brown what are you scheming up for DeMar rosen or how does he fit in your offense um put his face on his on his he’s so frustrated um I think I’m not gonna I agree with like but besides of what everything that’s been said um I think one thing that dear I’m going to get to the answer one thing that Zar provides I think is a nice um contingency plan when possessions fizzle out you’ve got one of the best shot makers in the league um the value of mid-range Shots by the analytics Community has been kind of poo pooed recently I think it’s gone kind of too far the other way they have value um especially in late clock situations where you’re not going to generate a good shot having someone who can make mid-range shots at an elite clip like dear he’s always at the top of the league in volume and efficiency on mid-range shots that that’s great contingency him being a shot maker he doesn’t really need too much that’s great um I think the best way to use dear on the Kings would be I mean I think I don’t think he’s going to share the court with dear Fox a whole lot obviously they’re going to start together but I don’t think they’re going to share the court a whole lot um I think what what dear provides is when they go to lineups without dearon and it’s Malik out there defensively okay you’re going to give up some but you can have keonis out there Keegan um who’s that backup f is Alex L yeah they don’t they don’t have one right now they absolutely need yeah they need a backup hey Robert Williams Oh but um so but I think the way you use um Demar off the ball because on the ball I think there’s not really many questions about dear um you’re going to use him probably high pick and roll um a lot of the action they using like in terms of Demar if dear comes off screens pistol or Zoom or whatever the case you’re going to be you can get him to the Elbow now where the bonus positions himself in those spots I mean you’ll probably use him as an offensive rebounder or an off ball screener for like Kevin hter coming off so that sabonis is providing the spacing because he’s setting the screens for Dangerous shooters or you put him in the dunkers for offensive rebounds um I think but off the ball like for example if you got pistol with dearon and you have dear in the opposite side slot because dearon coming off towards his left hand towards the rim is so dangerous you’re going to have to commit two to the ball often in those situations is sabonis Defender and diar and they’re going to follow him but that obviously means that now sabonis is on the rooll in the pocket or whatever so you have to commit the weak side Defender to sabonis if you have di dear in that slot usually they’re going to help off of him to go tag sabonis that’s where dear can be unlocked as a cutter as a mover and he can cut into that empty space and he can finish and he’s still a very good athlete even though he is 35 next month I think but those are the sports where I think if you’re going to run sets for other people dear’s people’s willingness to help off of dear can be used against them in terms of the form of cuts and all of those things because you’re giving dear empty space to run into now it turns into Kar and make those reads can Malik make those reads sabon like sabonis in the short rle for example because teams are going to come off the screen with Malik they’re going to put two on the ball sabonis in a short rle dear doesn’t have to be spotting up in that situation Kingo Kingo R he’s not as athletic as kaminga but you can have him along the Baseline he can make those reads and then even if they do pick up on that then you’ve got Demar post-ups it just flows effortlessly into post-ups and DeMar rosen he’s 66 one of the best post Wings in the league not many wings in the league can defend post UPS consistently anyway so you’ve got now that’s another option and even if your offense Fizzles out you have other options and then maybe you send a double and Demar can make reads out of the doubles and now diar in a short catch and shoot threes at a very high clip for a while now it’s like two or two years he shot like 38 39% on catching shoot threes I think so he’s capable Malik mon is like 40% on wide open threes he doesn’t really miss wide open threes Keon Ellis has made made open threes um at a good CL like the only non-shooters and Keegan is obvious is sabonis and dear but I think sabonis his value as an offensive rebounder creating extra possessions you can have him in the dunker spot and teams don’t want to leave him because of the fact that you have to box him out and if you don’t and if you do leave him to box out sabona can either get a dump of pass or you you shoot and he’s got an open offensive rebound he’s maybe the best rebounder in the league so I think it can work but now you come up against the more versatile defenses I think that’s where you might run into some problems but I’m with Penn on that offensively I’m not as concerned defensively is where I have the wors Demar I don’t think he a good def especially on the ball I think he’s a terrible on ball Defender off the ball I think Chicago have used him relatively well in terms of like as a RoR he’s got solid hands and he’s kind of away from the action so like you can hide him but the Kings lack versatility on that end I like Keon Ellis’s defense but he’s kind of limited to ones and twos some threes dearin is pretty much limited to all guards you can’t do much else with him other than guards point of attack he’s got great hands all of those things no I I seen him get big on DRM down there on the Block bu of time Draymond no no no okay cool Draymond Green Draymond Green okay um and then so then you got you ever heard the term Draymond stopper neither have I the first the first and then obviously Jamar is not the best defender so you come up against teams like OKC where runs point about the size thing where I thought he was going to go was I thought when he’s picked the Kings and that’s I was confused the S I agree that the Kings might be bigger in terms of height and then weight and strength but the OKC are built to capitalize on weak interior defense they drive more than anyone in the league the Kings don’t have guys who can contain drives consistently especially when you have dear out there and dearon fox is at a size dis advantage and you can’t switch anything because diaran and Keon are both not very switchable above ones and twos so you go up against the the Thunder who everything is about getting cross matches everything is about getting to the rim and collapsing the defense everything is about heavy isolation dear can’t hide anywhere you’re probably gonna end up putting him on ludor or Caruso but the issue is Caruso in Chicago this year next to Demar showed his capabilities as a screener showed his capability in the four on three showed his capability as a spot up shooter that Josh giddy absolutely was not so you can’t you can’t really hide anyone and you have to try to keep sa bonus near the rim even though he’s not a great rim protector but because you can’t have him on the outside but cck causes those matchup issues and when I said he would get valent tunist I didn’t mean he would get played off the court because you’re going to need to bonus out there offensively but while he’s out there defensively he’s GNA get picked on just like valent chunis was because he can’t guard cat and even if you don’t buy into Chet’s offense just the fact that he is a crossmatch the fact that when they’re running in transition they’re setting little rip screens for him so he can get to the wing and now you’ve got you got a wing on chat and now there’s a sabonis is having to guard someone else and now they setting up isolations but now sabonis can’t help the rim because he’s guarding a shooter on the outside it just causes a bunch of Mayhem and mismatches and that’s why I don’t think they could go OKC I think he run into those problems against Denver also because I mean you’ve got to keep sabonis on joic but joic is often operating as the high post Hub you’re now taking sabonis away from the rim you’re gonna have dear down there dear can’t protect the rim you’re gonna have Keegan trying to chase around someone so now mpj is 610 being Guided by who DeMar rosen I I think they’re a bad mismatch defensively so even if I think that offense is good and I think you can make Demar work even though it’s not a seamless fit defensively is where I just I don’t think they’re good enough to be put in definitely not favorites but even in the contenders category I think they fall short of the Minnesota Tims the OKC Thunder the Denver Nuggets the I’m I don’t know about the grizzly I’m really high on the Griz so but like yeah I think they’re in like that we got ax is number one look at look at D look at DMO mad because they a get the more look look at look at DMO down there pissed because they a’t get de more well he he said the thing that Penn said um Harrison bars to dear that that’s I mean that’s the simplistic way of looking at it that’s a simp yeah dear is better than Harrison Barnes but this goes back to the conversation we had about KD and Steph Talent over fit I think Harrison Barnes you could I’m still think the kings are probably better off because of this but you can make the argument that Haring Harrison Barnes after all the [ __ ] I’m not bar guy but I’m say I’m saying the kings are better and I’m saying the kings are better but you can argue that Harrison Barnes fit makes more sense than dear’s fit does I’m of the belief that the kings are still better off right now than they were two days ago Harrison win team and you can make that argument so I just think just saying well they went from Harrison Barnes to dear oh well that’s what that matters like there’s a lot of nuance that goes into it more than just that because we can understand that adding Russell Westbrook to the Lakers over cas kcp guess who the better player is Russell Westbrook was better than kcp but we understood it’s about F okay we’re not going to add like 21 Russ was better than not I’m not doing that Russell Westbrook was a better player than Mar we don’t got to do that Mars we don’t have but we but we understood but we understood that kcp was a better fit because talent doesn’t always beat fit when you say better you mean Talent he’s more talented or yes more talented he was a better he was a better player ACP in the whole conversation Talent Russ ENT than kcp but we all understood kcp made more sense for the Lakers we all understood it and it can be similar withar and Harrison I don’t is is is it fair to say that the that we we’re not sure yet based on is it gonna be just a takeout and plug in like are are we expect are we expecting Coach Brown to just plug Dem Mar in to what he had Harrison Barnes I don’t think at all so why that’s why I say I think it’ll work I think it’ll work out obviously I’m I’m optimistic about it obviously because I think we got we got a better player in the package with all du respect to Harrison y’all know I love Harrison but I do see it as we we got more options now and I think I think coach I think Coach Brown is is it was I think everybody was tired of us kind of doing that same thing with the offense like that’s how that’s how uh that’s how coach that’s that’s how that’s how coach Kirk hooked us with that dropping dropping off uh Dro off demontis and Mike and Coach Brown not making the adjustment that’s when that’s when what pin I think what maybe that’s not what you were saying P I guess I did misunderstand you but that’s when we want to bring damont onto the Baseline onto the block instead of doing that up top handoff thing so now we got dear I think we can change our offense and and do different things you know what I’m saying we can work out different ways because we got a a better mid-range score a guy that we can go to in the iso a guard that we can finally post up like we we haven’t had that we we haven’t had that in the past two three seasons we haven’t had a guard that we can post up we haven’t had somebody that we can go to except for except for um Malik and dear when when the shot clock is running down we haven’t had I mean um I understand sabonis isn’t the best uh floor spacer but it’s not a guy that’s just he has to be at The Rim to be effectful uh to be impactful he can be a screen Setter he’s a guy that can distribute and playmake as well so he can still be pulled away from the basket to give dear um Lanes to be able to operate and maneuver and dear is just that veteran gu that they can get to get a bucket outside of dearon fox they did have injury uh problems last year that’s a guy if he’s healthy and there’s a time where dearon or sabonis is isn’t there that’s a guy that can look at that had like you said he was on a 73- win team that was 10 years ago so this is a vet this is a a true glue vet guy on a team that’s trying to take that next step that they know hey if we need a bucket give Demar a bucket like I If there’s one thing Demar can do is get you a bucket at this point so I feel that’s fine the defense he’s not gonna be a good Defender but on their part they got three phenomenal guard Defenders down there I don’t know what they’re about to do have they got um have they done anything with Davon yet no he they have two phenomenal guard you know so I mean I don’t think that Houston is Sacramento two years ago I think they a top five SE that good I do yo I think that they gonna be that good this year I think their defense is gonna be way better I think that Jaylen green takes that jump I think he’s gonna be one of the better two guards in the game this year singon staying healthy I think his I think his floor game in terms of where he’s where where he is on the wing I think he stretches that out even more I think that Jabari Smith who y’all know how I feel about him I think he comes back in even better offensive and defensive player I think this year they you got guys from two years ago I think he is jaar is jaar is Jabari better than Keegan I would take him over Keegan Murphy to be honest with you I would you would he’s also three years younger can we factor that in which Matters by the way and he’s bigger and he’s more I’m not I’m not talking about who who would you take like on your right now team so player for play player for player yeah he is Keegan is yeah player player for player I think Jabari Smith is a better player than Keegan Murray if player player for player if we did I think I think it’s I think is so close I I can’t really say I I think I probably would I think I got Keegan just barely though but if you if you look at it like who would you take and so you add a you add age into it I’m fine with taking Jabari I could I could 100% get behind I think Keegan’s better now but I think Jabari hopefully should be better long term he works really hard where’s the Gap at because I because what I’m looking at I’m looking at keeg Murray his ability to shoot the long ball I think that that’s the separator other than that I don’t see much of I I don’t see much of a difference and I think on the defensive side of the basketball that closes that long ball Gap even more you think he you think jabari’s better than him on defense I do yes really really I I don’t think so I don’t jaar’s bigger bger I just feel like I feel like jab I feel like Jabari his ability to to cover on screens is better and I feel like he a better recovery Defender than Keegan Murray I definitely think that that is true and he can he can guard he can guard different places on the court but where Keegan is guarding right now for the Kings he is better he is the he is better at his role than Jabari is at his role at this time is I think the best way I would put it and but again when you draft an older guy which the Sacramento Kings have been known to do over and over and over again um you have to factor in how much guys develop between the ages of especially 16 to 26 that Gap right so that that jump you know I I I was a little bit down on Keegan Murray my boy he was like a little bit worried when they passed on jayen I and I was like yo Keegan Murray’s a really good player he might be one of the most error he’s like one of the most error free basketball players i’ ever seen in my life in college and I was I was high on him I get it you know your your organization he’s a good culture guy but don’t be surprised if there’s that Quantum Leap coming for Jabari at some point and we don’t know when that Prospect takes that leap right you said ER like doesn’t make mistakes he’s error free as a basketball player he’s a very um I want to say like cautious basketball player he’s just a very smart basketball player he doesn’t do too much stupid stuff on the basketball court most players most especially most young players you probably point to about 35 50 50 mistakes they make every single game if you really break down their film with him I was looking at some of his tape in Iowa I’m like this guy didn’t make 10 mistakes this whole game this crazy so he’s a really smart basketball player and I was like this is going to be great for you know any system that requires as many decisions as a king system is going to require a very smart player to play right away and that’s where I think the Gap was where it’s intellectually so far ahead but Jabari has the Gap in terms of physique you know size length age everything and then of course the positional def uh you know defensive versatility of being able to guard all three levels of the floor is is crazy to me so Jabari like if he pops he’s a monster ke if Keegan pops he’s a three- time Allstar that’s difference what was jaari taking at number three number three and Keegan was three too right no four same I know one thing and I know these are both young guys and you guys know I always expect young guys to get better under under NBA development and just with AE and stuff like that Pinas said 16 to 26 I’m always expecting guys to get better year after year but I got I got high hopes for both of these guys and I I want to see them both reach might retire as one of the 20 greatest players of all time and if the Spurs called and said we want Luca plus 10 first round picks you need to have that conversation with your front office and say maybe we need to think about this he is that good as a prospect you don’t you just have to look at the the where he is right now given his physical development like it’s like one of those puppies you know one of those puppies that are about to grow into a 200 PB dog or 150 pound dog and you see the pause and you’re like oh my God that you tell me that dog is two months old is bigger than my is bigger than my couch that’s the point right what Victor wanyama did was he got better and his trajectory is insanity and I’ve seen him get better every single year we see the habits we see the maturity we see him being a leader we see him you know taking the lead that’s that’s the rarest thing for a young player in a losing organization not losing organization Spurs are historically a winning organization but a losing team to come in there and be like no this [ __ ] stops now we’re winning we’re not we’re not we’re not tanking we’re not we’re not doing that to me is just that’s teams that F to think like right now oh we’re nice we’re nice we’re nice but come midseason maybe come I don’t know even November December they’re like ah we’re not so nice we’re 5 and 15 right now we better tank what are you looking for when you’re tanking you’re looking for cap relief and draft picks the Spurs have a lot of that if the Spurs come out hot they can add a piece they can trade Kellin they can trade you know something they can they can even move off this Harrison Barnes contract add a couple of draft picks to that and get real good real fast I’m telling you man like I don’t think you’re off base when you say the Spurs could be next up it could happen so fast and we’ll be talking about next year be like how how how’ they become the fourth seed the leap that the leap that wimy would have to take in year two now don’t get me wrong I’ve seen it done before but the the the leap that wimy would have to take at this age as young as he is in year two considering what the western conference is and considering them basically gunning for wimy now because wimy isn’t sneaking up on anybody it’s not like Tre anyone as a rookie no he wasn’t no he was not Ms and now it’s even more magnified because they know he’s gonna get better next year which means we gotta plan more for him as opposed to last year where we didn’t really know who he was we didn’t really know what he could do we didn’t really know what his strength were we knew what kind of skill set he had and what kind of potential he had but now here we are and now here we are the next year and we know he’s probably going to be a better ball handler they’re going to look to have they’re going to look to advance the offense and put him more in the post now you got a distributor like now you got a distributor like Paul like like Chris Paul he’s gonna run the floor even more now you’re gonna look at him more pick and pop more pick and dive all of that stuff is gonna go on with him so the leap he’s gonna have to take this year the leap he’s gonna have to take this year with those guys he’s not gonna have to take a leap though chilltown like I mean I get it it it is possible he has to take a leap I give you I’m not gonna say that’s not what has happened it is possible another possibility is he takes a step Vel takes a step Kellin Johnson takes a step and you’re adding two veterans to this team alongside a rookie who in summer league alone I understand summer league is in everything when we’re talking about a guy’s deficiency being his shot and he’s coming out and shooting as confidently as Stephen Castle has been shooting so far in the summer league already looking like that’s being debunked from what they said his floor as a shooter would be he’s already more confident than I assume he would ever he would next three four years I thought it would have took way more development for his shot to get to where it’s looking like it’s at in summer league right it’s not necessarily a leap wib has to make now do I think that all that is going to happen I’m not sure I can see being optimistic but at the same time we are talking about a 49 year old Chris Paul and a Harrison Barnes whose best years in my opinion are behind him the same way I can see if Chris Paul is 39 Harrison bonds is 4 42 if the same way I can see the same way I can see Harrison Barnes the same way I can see Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes both adding a lot of value to this team and helping them win games because of Veteran leadership and things of that nature is the same way I can see Chris Paul having another season where it’s kind of being plag with injuries playing 55 to 60 games so there is a chunk of the Season where he’s not going to be there and you’re not going to have that guy so you could lose those games and the same way I can see harrin and Barnes may not impact winning enough to change the fact that the Spurs are the Spurs we have to see what they’re going to do with wimy are they just going to let wimy run wild now or are they going to play him to more of a managing his minutes type of role last year he didn’t even average 30 minutes a game are they gonna still do that are they still gonna go slow with the process of [ __ ] because at the same time I understand they are making shots to look like a more competitive team they still could take another year to say f it we got a nice draft class coming up have a bul of draft picks let’s still develop guys what’s the problem with developing for a second year last year all people said was don’t rush the process with wimy don’t rush it with wimy Let It Come Along steadily so you can build the right way well hell this year could be another development year maybe they don’t have to run soain at the point guard and develop that much but they still we have a situation where Chris Paul goes down and he’s not playing as much as you want Harrison Barnes is and I’m not saying this is who he is but he could just be Harrison Barnes and you’re looking at another year where you’re a bottom three team in the West the qu the reason why I think with a divide is with us dammo is in terms of the leap that he’s got to take what is it resulting in with the Spurs now if you’re talking about them being a playin team okay sure with Harrison bonds with Vel I don’t know if that leap has to be that big in terms of them being a playin team even a even even bottom of the even bottom of the playing playoff picture I don’t think the leap has to be that big but if you talking about them actually being a legit playoff team them being a how many wins is it going to take for them to to be a legit playoff team it’s going to take at least what 48 48 wins in order for them to be a legit playoff team close to 50 wins I think Wim is gonna have to take an astronomical leap in order for that to happen which means he’s gonna have to play more he’s gonna have to be an even better Defender just because he was that just because he was second in the league in defensive player of the year does not mean that he can’t improve as a Defender and not be in the top three in defensive player of the year that does not mean that he could very well improve in that aspect the question that I’m asking is is when we’re talking about wmy taking a leap we’re talking about wmy taking a jump where are the Spurs going because if they’re only going to the playin okay I don’t think it has to be that big but if we’re talking about them being a legit playoff team absolutely that leap has to be from Mountain to Mountain well they they did they did they did with with Harrison Barnes they did add more defense with uh to to to wimy um even even the young fella Castle he’s a hell of a Defender I’m not sure like like like dammo said I’m not sure that’s going to look like when the season starts you know what I’m saying just based on summer league but I’m sure I’m sure he’ll get some minutes but I think the Spurs got a lot better right now just just just off at Harrison Barnes and I know I make fun of the Chris Paul thing but bringing Chris Paul into your locker room it can’t hurt it can it can only teach you know I mean he can teach those guys he can he can show he can do for wimy what he did for DeAndre Aiden I felt like when when Chris when Chris Paul more so for DeAndre because I’m look I’m looking at De how what what he did for DeAndre actually show that now I think the Spurs are are are gonna be a really good team this year not I don’t think they’re gonna you know be a 50 win team but they’ll I think they’re gonna go a lot higher than they were last year how how far are we how far are we away from Devin pel ceiling he’s 23 we’re going into year five next year you guys know how I feel about year five right and you know how I feel about Improvement and I do think that you improve by year five but more times than not in year five I feel like this is probably who guy is so you shouldn’t expect much more so how far are we away from Devon Vel seiling are we looking at are we look what what I’m asking is are we looking at a at a at a eight on on a regular on a Tuesday night DMO am I looking at a 19 to 22 and five guy am I looking at a 20 and six guy on a Tuesday is that what I’m looking at or or or is there more there there’s if everything goes perfectly you I think you’ve got a slightly lesser Chris Middleton if everything so if his def if his defense gets back to where it should have been coming out of Florida State because he came in his defense was probably his best attribute and like movement shooting and stuff so if he can get back to where he probably should be defensively which I think he can be if he’s not asked to do as much offensively you’ve already got great mid-range creation um he elevates he he gets his shot off consistently he can make pull up threes he can spot up um he’s solid around the basket I mean not great but he’s solid around the basket I think that’s that’s what you got youve got a lesser Chris mlon he’s not as big as Chris I’ll take that he’s probably not he’s not going to be as good in the mid-range as Chris but he will be he fill that role of shot creation shot making tertiary or secondary facilitation and playmaking and he can take he can take defensive assignments too I think that’s what you’re going to get with the I I would say to put put a number on the chill in the next two to three years I feel like that’s what he hood is sing and playing next to wimy at least for me I see a 20 to 22 Point per game guy any given night playing next to him me as a number two on the Spurs team all right and and by the way chill I wasn’t necessarily I didn’t I brought it up but I more so brought it up to highlight how big of a leap I think wimy is gonna take yeah sure I expect Vel to get better I expect Kon to get better I expect all of those guys to get better but I think wimy is about to take two or three leaps that at least that’s what it’s going to feel like that’s what I need to understand I got to say one thing I literally sat from I nearly sat that was the second row in wy’s I would say most impressive rookie game when he had 10 blocks against you when he had 10 blocks against Toronto I saw this dude break my team in a way they were already broken because they were already losing and a lot of turnovers nothing to do with going to the rim with him on the floor nothing nothing to do with it they wouldn’t yeah it was literally paints closed y’all show up later it’s like we’re closed come back tomorrow right y’all come back in a couple hours when he’s gone on it’s demoralizing it’s it’s Insanity when when I consider the physics of how he covers the court how he recovers how he Hedges how he communicates and the fact that he is only going to get better there’s a misconception that athletes do not get more athletic as they get older there’s a thought that oh this guy’s gonna you know he’s he’s hitting his Peak athletically at 18 or 19 I disagree completely I think athletes hit their Peak much closer to 25 26 when strength and the balance and all that stuff so this guy I’m I’m I’m not trying to Big him up into anything he’s a monster he is a monster already no big him up yeah like people might call this glaze as far as I’m concerned you’re barely doing Justice it’s not glaze exactly I’m I’m being very very I’m being very generous when I say I think he’s he’s going to be a top 10 player in in the league next year that’s me being very generous when you and I was going to agree yeah so I mean you consider what’s around him and we haven’t even talked about Greg papovich not one time did anyone say hey by the way he’s being coached by arguably the greatest coach of all time or one of the three five greatest coaches of all time matter 75 years old that’s why I mean he’s still on the game unless unless of course you’re gonna make a case that he’s got cognitive decline or some sort something like that you don’t you’re not just wiping that out right I’m not wiping it out I’m not I’m not completely going against it I’m just older Greg old if if he had Greg papovich 10 years ago like I think this would be a different conversation I feel like coach pop is in a space where with wmy he doesn’t know what to do with him and it’s not because he doesn’t and it’s not because he doesn’t know the game it’s just wimy is such a unique talent that I’m not really sure where I should have him at so there’s a reason why you see wimy in such different spaces and and and Diving to the rim or playing at the long ball line or playing on the because he doesn’t really know exactly what to do with him so nor should he you shouldn’t make up your mind about was experimental a lot of things they were doing this year was to see where he’s comfortable what’s most effective or and that’s why I don’t I don’t like technically it’s year two for Wy next year I don’t feel like it’s year two it feels like he had like three different growths during the season facts like the first because I remember like everyone talks about oh Mars you had CH over wemi yes the first October to like the late December I still stand on that cat was playing better than Wy in my opinion before c moved to the five when he was when he when his shot selection was all over the place when he didn’t really look comfortable with what he was doing yes I still stand on CH was the Rookie of the Year to that point then January came around Zack Collins is out the team Trey Jones is in the starting lineup wy’s playing the five he’s figuring things out he’s now shooting a million percent on step back threes he’s rebounding he’s figured out how we can protect the rim and be at his most effective so far he’s pushing the pace in transition he’s figuring things out then secondly post Allstar break he becomes one of the better passing bigs in the game already like not in terms of like consistently making the right reads but seeing the reads he can make in real time seeing him initiate pick and roles seeing him run high low action seeing him do all those things now does he misreads yes does he struggle with skip passes sometimes yes but seeing him figure these things out on the Fly I don’t know if it’s translated in the assist numbers I’m sure I could look out but him developing throughout the year is like he’s gone through a first year a second year he’s like in his third year cuz what you look at look at October Wy and look at February WB that’s two different players that’s not a rookie year you look at that version and then you look at February you’re G to say oh that’s year two that’s year three just in terms of that’s what the development looked like so yeah he’s going into year two but he’s really going into year four like in my opinion so like that’s the point where I think he’s at but I think that this is an important thing is like uh I always consider uh intelligence to be the great force amplifier right in terms of basketball if you’re smarter you’re going to figure it out faster you’re going to accommodate yourself faster you we hear stories about P Gasol figuring out the triangle in a day whereas it might take someone an entire season to kind of get the motion triangle right Gary Payton is another one so what I’m saying is you you mentioned year five right CH you said year five is big for you right I’m going tell you that my my history of watching the Spurs is that guys get better much much longer with the Spurs than they do with other organizations you take consideration a guy like Derek white where is his Peak a lot of players you say it’s Peak 24 25 but Spurs players Peak later I look at a guy like Danny Green later Peak I look at a guy Kawhi Leonard where’s his Peak probably year six seven that’s that’s what I’m talking about they develop in a way where they keep pushing your growth I’ll give you another example and it’s kind of call back to what we already talked about which is DeMar de Rosen everyone in Toronto was very frustrated with Demar de Rosen his efficiency was very low he wasn’t the greatest playmaker to Warrant his 34 33% usage he wasn’t a great shooter his entire game was not efficient and then he went to the Spurs at the age of 26 27 I think it was 27 years old 27 we say this is who you are in the NBA we typically say 27 I know who you are I’ve seen enough of it I’ve seen you burn out in the playoffs enough times he completely changed Demar de rozan as a playmaker I believe the Spurs completely developed him into a different player so what I’m saying is you got here the player who has this cerebral you know not only the work ethic the crazy work ethic that Victor wanyama has but you also have put him in a system that has a track record for development they’re not trying to extract you know some gold out of like a baron mind they’re they’re literally they got the gold like I’m not I’m not saying this right but this is the Gold Rush right I got so what I’m saying is like this is the perfect match between Prospect and system and coach and what can result of that if injuries are not a factor and if he stays healthy is probably something that y’all not prepared for like Dan Marino like Dan Marino going to the Dolphins and playing for coacha I got it yeah exactly yeah what’s up Mar um this is just to piggyback on that and I’m gonna ask pen because he’s a rapor fan do you feel like coach Darko is something similar to that because RJ Barrett on the nck versus what I saw in Toronto and RJ Barett I think is in year five or year six drastically different and he only had him for a couple months like do you think he’s doing something similar with Player Development because RJ bar look like a different player in Toronto yeah there there are certain teams that have a figured out Player Development shooting development you know defensive development I think um Player Development comes down to connecting with an athlete getting the trust the Buy in and then getting the right techniques in M it I think Darko is a fantastic development coach that’s why they hired him over very proven and you know known Commodities he’s from my city like uh my family’s from chauk Serbia he’s from chauk Serbia so when he was hired I knew him like I knew of him very very much and I was able to talk to people who had covered his entire career this dude’s been coaching since he was 16 years old he’s understood like he can write a book on pick and roll right now so yeah he made RJ Barrett a better player he made ogan and noi a better player even though the Knicks are the ones that re the reward of that right um he made Scotty Barnes a better player I think Scotty would be the first person to tell you that and he’s going to make man quickly a better player yes I do believe that he is a cut from the same cloth of you know development minded coaches but I think even when you’re winning you should always be developing you should always have that as part of your because at some point you’re going to want to trade you’re two for one you’re three for one type of thing and you need someone to step into that role to to cover the depth right and if you haven’t been developing if you’ve just been so focused on winning whole time that you haven’t been giving your young players like you know it’s it’s what the Denver Nuggets are going through right now everyone’s saying they’re getting depleted they’re getting depleted but the only reason they’re getting depleted because that been developing right you lose trust in those young players you cut you cut Julian str’s minutes too early now you could argue maybe he wasn’t that good to begin with you could argue maybe you know Christian Brown didn’t deserve the opportunity but it’s like if those guys had actually played and they had developed we’d be feeling a lot better about kyp’s wait a minute though there’s a difference between using young guys in Toronto and using young guys in Denver when we’re talking about the world Champion like we don’t really have a lot of time it’s the same logic with kaminga we don’t really we don’t really have we don’t have we don’t really have the the the timeline when you’re dealing with the NBA champion like development doesn’t mean you have to give rotation minutes that’s not even true though chill because at the same time that entire time they were on those runs and everything like that a guy like pton wson and Christian Bron are sitting at the end of the bench but that doesn’t mean the work stops for them even take it a step further and look at the Lakers I mean I don’t know who I might have been pen that brought this up to me um when we were on here or somebody brought this up to me we we’re on here we’re not signing anybody because we did have guys at the end of the bench that for these last couple of years year or two that was you the last year or two they’ve been at the end of the bench they’ve been they should have been developing you can 100% develop your young guys while also competing winning and and doing everything hell we expected the Warriors to do that um in at 2020 whenever Curry goes down they get the second pick all bet you’re starting to build the new regime while the old regime is still doing work and they’re going to step in and just it’ll be this gradual Replacements what everyone thought would happen but the Warriors didn’t develop how they were supposed to develop I guess that’s the point that I’m making D but that that that right there is the point that I’m making when you dealing with a championship team you can have these guys on your on your bench max Chris Max Christie is a prime example of that Max Christie is probably one of the better young players that you have but the fact that you trying to win it really doesn’t look like mean the patience and the and the and the the Rope is a lot shorter when you dealing with guys like that when you trying to win because we got to pick this up right now and when we got to pick this up right now that means that we don’t have a lot of room for error so because we don’t have a lot of room for error it looks like these guys aren’t developing when in reality they are developing just in the background so when when I think about what you guys are when I think about what you guys are doing in Toronto I love what they doing up in Toronto with with Scotty bonds and and Quigley and RJ Barrett I I love what they doing up there the problem is is when you got young guys like on Denver you are developing them but when we get to the floor we need to see that development right now we don’t need I dis because you remember the 95 there a reason why Christian Brown hold on there’s a reason why Christian Brown was playing the reason why Christian Brown was playing during that Championship run because he did the other stuff right he did the Dirty Work stuff was which is what they needed now if he was in if he was in another situation and the other stuff that they needed him to do and he wasn’t doing that he probably wouldn’t be playing as much the reason why he was playing in Denver is that exact reason so they had room for him as opposed to if he wasn’t doing that other stuff he would not have been playing nearly as much well well wait a second because Scotia Banks Center are not the only basketball court in Toronto last I checked they got the OVO Center and yes I did just say OB ho my bad um you from Toronto I’m not from Toronto I me but in Toronto I’m still a c happened the last time somebody but they had it in mind we’re going to develop this guy in this role and then we’re going to build it up in the 905 they they sent him from stint to stint same thing with Fred Van v Fred Van v came in to a roster where he was a fourth string point guard that’s crazy to think about the fourth string point guard he had to beat out Corey Joseph Delan Wright and Kyle Lowry for minutes right he chose to sign here because he’s like yo they get rid of one of these guys they put him in the g- league next year boom he’s backup point guard right he beat out those two guys like that right because cream lies is to the crop what I’m saying is just because you’re not playing uh next to Aaron Gordon doesn’t mean you can’t play down you know in their g-league affiliate doesn’t mean that you can’t the point here is how much do you prioritize development as an organization the key to Chad success in my opinion with OKC was that they developed him in his off year when he was injured with that Liz Frank injury that was huge they massively developed that guy they made sure that they were on top of it they made sure they met with him every single week to discuss what he needs to be learning what he needs to be figuring out what he can do for strength and training because just cuz your foot’s broken doesn’t mean your hand’s broken doesn’t mean your arms are broken doesn’t mean everything’s broken we’re still we’re not going to waste this time right and it doesn’t mean you can’t you can’t fix out your reform right it you know so that’s what I’m saying OKC is is a great model franchise Memphis is a great model franchise for this um San Antonio is a great model franchise Toronto used to be a model franchise for this under Dwayne Casey and J Mala down there is organizationally you have to prioritize development it doesn’t mean you got to give guys unearned opportunities and squ W wins in yit’s prime it just means that those guys need to be in the gym getting better every single day there needs to be a cohesive plan and that plan has to be cohesive with your scouting because you can try to make me into an MMA fighter all you want and put me in the Octagon I’m still G to get
