SUMMER LEAGUE SOUND: COACH CHALMERS & ANTHONY BLACK
Anthony was saying before that he’s put on about seven or eight pounds of muscle to uh do you sense that a stronger player more power drive I I think so I think mentally stronger as well like he’s holding the ball a a little longer he’s probing better he’s making more contact and still being able to finish through it so I would say yes absolutely how difficult is it you know for someone like him playing PR guard start reading the game at a more advanced level obviously you as a player play that position so how long doeses it really take to really start the aspect of the game now it’s repetition just like anything else I think there’s a natural ability that comes with it and he has that but it’s about repetition just being able to read it and see what’s coming and and and having an understanding of not pre predetermining things but allowing it to fully develop and seeing the big picture of it and making decisions off that what’s the biggest thing you learned yesterday about your team um that we have good energy we got good heart uh we play together and um we want to win I I asked Anthony like obviously it’s you guys are practiced a little bit but it’s still such a weird team of guys of young guys coming together why do you think it’s Blended so well together um they understand what we’re trying to do um they are they have done a great job of like being together even outside of of the game outside of practice so I think I give credit to them for or to us for just like making sure everyone’s included and we do this together I’m sure you had some time to review some of the film from yesterday what what else about Tristan’s game did you like uh I thought defensively and offensively he was really good he’s patient he understands the timing and the and the momentum of the game uh he he’s unselfish but he can also get it himself so like you can put him in any position on the court and he’ll find success what are you hoping to see tomorrow in your second game uh the same great energy uh supporting each other uh executing and contining to do what we do thank you yes sir you as well what are your you know your trying to help the team I know you would like to win these exibitions but individually what are some of your developmental areas that you’re uh definitely just being more physical kind of uh like how how I used to play um just trying to get back to the paint and play off a two from there you know because most of the time uh just watching film we’re just seeing like a lot of times I’m bigger than my Defender so uh we just been working on being super physical uh handling shooting and uh really just getting into the paint for sure are you referencing like your time in college or in high school or both I really yeah yeah uh for sure college that was the most recent uh but just a lot of two foot finishing there uh shot fakes patience so uh definitely trying to bring some of that back for sure what’s the biggest thing you learned yesterday um we have a good team uh you know we we came out to a good start um it was my first time playing with Tristan so it was definitely a lot of fun um just his IQ and and just the way he moves out there makes it easy to play with him and uh you know jet played well too so um it was just it was really a first fun game for sure why do you think this team Blended so well I mean there’s obviously a lot of young guys and what not you you and jeda play together but first time with troust it seemed to just played well why do you think that was so easy I just think because of how smart this team is um just I know our group out there we we started playing a lot more smooth like on day three and four of training camp so uh we’re all starting to get a feel for each other um and we’re getting easy looks for each other like our degree of difficulty to most of our shots is is pretty low so uh we’re definitely just playing good basketball all around and and we’re having fun so it’s definitely good what is that to you about JH uh his dunks the the reverse dunk was crazy first of all but uh really just his versatility um you could throw it to him in a short row uh he’s comfortable setting screens are rolling popping uh comfortable shooting the corner three and then on defense he’s just a good defensive anchor so um it’s definitely been fun playing with Jay getting to know Jay for sure now that your rookie season is over with as you look back what was the thing that surprised you most about NBA life and um the travel I would say the travel just just cuz uh it’s tough some days playing in in two different cities back to back nights uh just stuff like that like stuff that’s not actually basketball that you wouldn’t think about uh the basketball side of it was pretty smooth though I’ll say and what what do you think you what did you learn from seeing the playoffs up close like that um really just how physical playoff basketball is uh you know it’s a lot more is allowed so teams are are much more physical uh the game slows down everything is possession by possession and uh you know usually the team that takes care of the ball and executes uh is the team that wins so it was definitely good uh definitely good for me being there watching how much stronger physically are are you now compared to 12 months ago I would say uh I probably put on like seven to eight pounds since then so I really even since since the season so um I guess I’m more stronger I felt I felt pretty strong out there yesterday so uh that’s definitely an area we’re working on for sure does the game feel like it’s slowing down at all during the end of last season uh yeah um you know my coaches are doing a good job helping me like understand like like where to use my pace and uh and where to play fast so um even just throughout this Camp uh right here itself like the last week I feel like it’s just slowed down a little bit more for sure so uh that’s that’s definitely good benefit for sure appreciate y’
