Baylor Scheierman on Celtics DEBUT | Summer League Postgame Interview
how did it feel just getting out there getting the first game action in with it yeah I felt really good to get out there play somebody different um the first I don’t even know five minutes of the game it was like hard to catch my breath um it’s hard to kind of emulate that type of uh game speed and practice but once I kind of settled in um it was good from there but it was just a lot of fun to get out there play someone new that’s CJ about your coefficient out there and he immediately said if you ask him he say you’re a quarterback so how often do you tell people you’re a quarterback and when you were throwing those touchdowns after the rebounds how did it feel like yeah I you know a lot of people knew that I was a quarterback beforehand so a lot of times that’s like the first thing the announcers say in the game notes is bayor shyman was a quarterback um so I think it definitely helps with my vision but um you know it feels pretty good out there you know I like getting my teammates involved um you know I’ve said it multiple times but I’d rather get an assist than you know score a bucketed especially if it’s like a cool pass so I’m always looking for my teammates and trying to get them you know uh open shots how you developed that passing game over the years and was that kind of your goal going into the second unit just to set some guys up yeah I you know it kind of started when I was really young you know I watched him pistol Peete growing up he was throwing all those flashy passes and um I tried to emulate that when I was super young and then as I continued to grow and develop it kind of just stayed a part of my game um and you know like you said going in with whoever I’m playing with you know I’m looking to get my teammates involved um get them open shots and um make them feel good what stands out to you by playing with Jaden Springer I mean he’s just a an overall great player you know a two-way player does it on both ends of the floor um you know obviously he had a tremendous game offensively but even defensively um he might even have been better um speeding them up um making them play faster than they want to play and then you know he he finds you when you’re open so um it’s just really fun to play with all the guys and specifically J what’s it like being here when there’s a like probably 40 or 50 guys youve played against with the r it’s like a convention in terms of like you know like hear about Vegas summer league but what’s it like being down here and just seeing when walk into the hotel so many faces and guys and probably play high school with college what’s what’s that like yeah well I didn’t play against these guys a lot in high school i’ say that much but uh played against him a lot you know in college and um you know it’s a lot of fun to be here obviously I watch it growing up you know in a war Nebraska and so now to be here and seeing all the familiar faces that I played against in college um it’s it’s a lot of fun to be out there competing against those guys in a different Jersey three offensive rebounds in the first half just was that a point of emphasis to crash the glass trying and create second chance opportunities yeah that’s a big point of emphasis especially for me trying to impact the game any way I can um you know in college I was a pretty good defensive rebounder but didn’t really get any offensive rebounds and so that’s something that I’m trying to put a point of emphasis on um now is just you know crashing the offensive glass as well you mentioned this but like how did the game kind of slow down for you like first five minutes you wi and everything how did it kind of feel yeah you know I think I just you know a little Jitters at the start obviously but then you know like you said it kind of settled down and kind of got into a rhythm there especially in the second quarter moving into the second half and um and then ultimately just played my game tried to get my teammates involved my teammates did a good job of finding me when I was open um and and it was just a lot of fun how you feel you fair defensively you said that was a big I thought I did pretty good you know I you know I was guarding you know hameh hak as the start and I thought I did a good job of keeping him in front of me and making him finish over top um there’s a few plays where you know I I picked up some fouls would like to clean that up um but I think overall you know I I did what I wanted to and I thought I was good off the ball as well so how’ you like that the first guy you guard in then being Jersey is like a starter on the playoff too I like it I I was happy they gave me that assignment you know um that’s something that you know I enjoy and I’m not going to back down from and you know I’m going to compete so than you
LAS VEGAS — The Summer League Celtics lost to the Miami Heat 119-114 in their Summer League debut. Boston’s first-round pick, Baylor Scheierman, reflected on his Summer League debut:
“The first, I don’t know, five minutes of the game, it felt hard to catch my breath. It’s hard to play at that game speed at practice. But once I settled in, it was good from there. It was a lot of fun to get out there and play someone new.”

Great performance
Good performance. Didnt start well but closed well. He looked more of a PG than a shooter this game. Hes more PPs backup/insurance than Sams.
Liked the boards and assists plus his defense wasnt as bad as advertised. Walsh's defense was worse. Hopefully Baylor's shooting gets better as the game goes along.
Most nba ready rookie since Pritchard that we drafted
