Jaime Jaquez Jr. Postgame Interview | Miami HEAT vs. Boston Celtics | July 13, 2024
but other players say any opportunity is an opportunity so what did you want to get out of this what did you take out of this man I think I just wanted to get better um number one uh I think number two is you know working on things on my game um and things outside of basketball that still translate such as leadership and being very vocal um both on the defensive offensive end and the huddles as well we got some young guys you know the two rookies um Pelle and uh khil you know trying to be voes to them um and just really the rest of the team and you that’s what I came here to work on decision of play in Summer League was that a product of you already being in Vegas because you were in select team or did you always kind of feeled no I think I was always going to play whether it’s select or not um I think that was always the plan um you know I was happy to get the opportunity to go out and play I love playing basketball um it’s better than you know doing drills and and conditioning for me so I’d rather get out here and play especially with the the new guys and get to know them and and be around um you know to build that cader going into next year what would have been the alternative if you didn’t have the opportunity to kind of play a couple Summer League games here uh playing pickup in the gym somewhere probably you know working out um you know golfing I don’t know you know all the all the above how different is are things for you on the floor the second time around going through getting ready for another season um you know I say it’s definitely different you know coming in you got no expectations you know you’re the Hunter and now um you know coming back after a year under your boat you’re kind of the hunt hit so um it was definitely a good experience to go out there you know Boston’s always a tough competition no matter what whether it’s you know the NBA or the summer league so um I was happy we got that one what have been some of the main areas of focus for you going in the year too uh definitely on the defensive end just being able to guard one through five um you know be a real lock down Defender and then after that I would say just be consistently knocking down shots and being able to make plays on the offensive end just thoughts on Isaiah Stevens and just the way he was moving the ball and just dishing dimes to everyone he’s the new yeah yeah yeah no I know he’s uh he he was incredible I mean you know the way he was able to push the ball like you said up and down the floor I thought you know it was great man transition I get the rebound throw it out to him and we’re pushing and run in I mean you know that’s fun basketball um and that’s the basketball we’re trying to play a couple two two man actions with two game what’s been your first impression of this working with practicing with play I mean I mean he’s great man you know a young guy coming in um you know defensively he’s such a big presence you know being able to block shots and and and protect the rim and then offensively he’s got such great touch um so you know we’re comfortable on the ball end him he he can go to work in the post and you know make the right decisions recre son and he said that you told them to follow your journey and stay in school what can you say to players you know staying on four years and how you can build your game in terms of doing that um I mean I think you know number one being able to stay all four years is you know is an advantage um just to be able to develop your game and and and developing different roles you know as a freshman you go in you know you’re fighting for a spot you know soft junior senior year you know you’re able to build off that and that’s kind of how it goes in the NBA as well like you come in as a rookie you know nothing’s going to be given to you you got you got to earn it and take it um and being able to develop your game and enjoy school and college and you know you know life life short man you got to enjoy it um the NBA isn’t going anywhere um so just take your time develop and and be the best version of yourself to to take that next step man the opportunity to team select say how that experience to of um it was an incredible experience I mean I think some of the biggest takeaways that I had was just I think you know really just being in the presence of such great players those guys have been you know the faces of the league for so long might be their last time playing together on on the same court um last Olympic go so I mean I just felt really honored to to be able there and play you mentioned want to show some improvement as a playmaker in a situation like this where your usage goes up how important is that to show be able to make those reads you know make the pass I mean I think it’s definitely I have some really uh bad turnovers this game I’m going to try to clean up in the next one um but I mean you know just being able to have Coach trust me in those situations um is really important to me and you know continue to build that trust and always make the right play so that we can you know get wins
