welcome into CBS Sports HQ well the old adage it’s not how you start it’s how you finish that matters most is certainly a great way to describe the rookie season for scoot Henderson the Portland rookie guard taken third overall last year had to deal with injuries at the start of his NBA career but managed to get himself right it appeared in 62 games for the Blazers plenty of optimism that Henderson Shaden sharp and the newest edition Donovan kingan are forming the backbone of an improving Portland team Henderson finished his rookie season averaging 14 points 5.4 assists in 28 1/2 minutes per game he was shooting 38% from the floor and 32% from Beyond The Arc in 62 appearances and we now welcome in scoot Henderson joining us here scoot welcome to CBS Sports HQ what’s going on what’s going on how you doing all right so listen you just completed your rookie season in the NBA 62 games now under your belt we mentioned it off the top had some struggles with injuries early on but never stopped working what was the biggest thing you learned in that early part of the season I think just to always look forward you know I mean never never backtrack never never look back on on a bad game a bad possession uh and just always keep moving forward and put my trust in God and put my trust in my work and what I’ve done over the summer and just believe in myself how much did your confidence in yourself help you navigate those early setbacks yeah I think I think that was a huge part of me just going going through that you know what I mean and my confidence it stayed the same it wasn’t going up and down that’s when you lose yourself when your confidence going up and down so I just remain confident you know have my faith in my family just always helping me and my team and coaches and stuff like that they they believed in me so they they took time but um know they they helped me a lot as we take a look at uh some of your highlight reel there you get to go up against some of the best guards in the league in the Western Conference scoot was there a moment that stood out to you as a a welcome to the NBA moment per se um like it was one of my first games and we was playing against you know I used to watch Westell Westbrook all the time so played against Westell Westbrook you know for the first time and and that was my first NBA game so that was a really cool thing um but I didn’t look at look at it like that you know toic where I looked at it like you know I want to go out here and dominate but it it was really cool just looking back at it it was really cool to just you know play somebody that you watch growing up um you know not just Russ but the whole team really you know the Clippers team that that was a good game so we talk about the competitive play in the west so what are you working on as you head into your sophomore season here over the summer um everything I’m working on everything I’m working on high finishes left right um footwork in the paint slowing down my Pace while I getting in paint uh I know I’m obviously quick but you know there’s times where you got to slow down and and read the game and I think that just comes with reps and playing but but also just working on my balance whether it’s know leaning over while I’m in the pain you know just trying to stay upright every shot being the same just really consistency Portland guard scoot Henderson joining us here on CBS Sports HQ scoot Donovan kingan was your team’s first round pick he comes in as a versatile big man and is a dynamic playmaker how do you think your game pairs with Donovan yeah I love DC man just watching over the past few days um I think I think we could be really dominant I think we’d be really dominant just just watching him run the floor you know that’s one thing that stuck out to me he runs the floor he can shoot the three ball um a little bit of everything know he guards he takes PR and and his team and team defense and on team offense as well so I think we’ll we’ll be very compatible you know just just from my downhill and and and vers versatility and and his versatility as well I think it’ll be crazy you’re in Vegas to take part in
