Who is the best player in Portland Trail Blazers history?
teacher talk and sports what it does what do how we live and let’s continue the series I’ve been doing where I attempt to name who I believe is the best player in each NBA franchisees history of their alltime goat previously did this for the NFL teams in a playlist check them out also have the ones I’ve done in the NBA thus far in a playlist as well going in alphabetical order today we land on the Portland Trailblazers there the CH Blazers in all Girl season was the 19771 season have played 55 seasons of NBA action won the NBA finals in 1977 also reached the finals in 1990 and 1992 now two years ago I did my NBA mount rushmor for each team who I believe are the four best players in each franchise’s history so before I name the goat I’ve just been uh revisiting them seeing if I would make any changes in the two years half pass so an alphabetical order by last name I included LaMarcus Aldridge made four Allstar teams with Portland uh had a 10th Place MVP finish in 201314 Clyde the Glide Drexler 11 full seasons part of a 12th with the Trailblazers many 20 point per game Seasons Damian Lillard the franchise’s alltime leading scorer seven time Allstar and Bill Walton former MVP in 1977-78 and the year prior to that was the finals MVP for Portland in their one Championship so some honorable mentions for the Trailblazers include CJ McCollum T Terry Porter Clifford Robinson Jeff Petri Michael Thompson Sydney Maurice Lucas Jim Paxon Rasheed Wallace and Brandon Roy this was a tough one honestly three different guys I believe have somewhat of a case to be considered Portland’s all-time goat but in the end I went with the Glide Clyde Drexler selected with the 14th overall pick in the 1983 NBA draft Drexler played 11 full seasons and about half of the 9495 season with the Trailblazers had MVP finishes of 2nd fifth 6th 10th and 12th while with the Trailblazers so uh five top 12 MVP finishes was named to seven straight Allstar teams from 8788 to 9394 and also in 8586 let’s take a look at his season by season numbers via his basketball reference page so Drexler made five all NBA teams with Portland uh including the One season he was there half the year one first team one second excuse me two second and three all NBA third teams in 1987 88 was eighth and defensive player of the year voting all in all in his 12 Seasons well let’s take a look at his season by season numbers via his basketball reference page but all in all with Portland he played 867 regular season games averages of 20.8 points 6.2 rebounds 5.7 assists 2.1 steals shooting just shy of 50% well 48% for his career nearly 80% from the free throw line Drexler was a uh often over a 20 point per game scorer he had six straight Seasons from 8687 to 9919 2 where he scored over 20 points per game an excellent rebounder at the shooting guard position most seasons averaging more than six per game uh career high of eight assists per game in the 8586 season also had two other three other Seasons where he averaged more than six per game had six straight Seasons from 8485 to 8990 where he averaged at least two steals a game had two seasons 86 87 and 8788 where he shot over 50% from the field Clyde Drexler was um much of that time seen as the second best shooting guard in the league other than the great Michael Jordan he helped guide the Trailblazers to two NBA Finals unfortunately both times they ran into Michael Jordan and were defeated 94 playoff games with Portland Drexler averaged 21.4 points 7.1 re rebounds 6.8 assists and two steals per game uh so his numbers didn’t really dip all that much in the playoffs uh Drexler did win a championship after he left with the Houston Rockets at are trade the Houston of course they also had uh hakee elijuan um part of the 50 50th Anniversary team 75th Anniversary team Clyde Drexler yes unfortunately he didn’t win a ring with Portland that’s why maybe some people would say Bill Walton over him uh but due to playing uh a much lengthier time with Portland I am going Drexler I know uh part of his career was also with Houston but he’s 37th all time with this 22,5 points 38th all time with this 6,125 Steals and excuse me assists and Ninth all time with this 20 27 steals Clyde Drexler is my Portland Trailblazers alltime goat again 867 regular season games compared to Bill Walton’s total of just 209 um I get it that if you went by absolute Peak uh you’d have to go Walton MVP and also an MVP runner up finish uh but it was really just those two seasons where he was dominant and I get one of them led to a Championship uh so I would understand if you include if you said Walton was your goat um I know Damen Lillard could get some love as well being the franchise’s all-time leading scorer uh but not as much postseason success did leave Portland to one Conference Finals uh but anyhow again let me know in the comments who you would consider the goat with all these I’ve been taking a look at the active roster deciding if anyone has a chance to overtake the goat make them out Rush more be an honorable mention honestly Portland has not been a good team of late you could say maybe a guy like scoot Henderson bounces back next season third pick in the NBA draft of course still has a long way to go he’s just 20 years old but uh would have to play a lot better than he did last season guys like shayen sharp Anthony Simon still young uh but I can’t anticipate either of them Sur passing um one of these Mount Rushmore guys that I included anyhow stay tuned for tomorrow I will be doing the Sacramento Kings anyhow don’t forget to subscribe tell a friend tell tell subscribe like the video share the video hit the bell for notifications I’m out
In this series, I will name who I believe to be the best player in each NBA franchise’s history. Let’s continue with the Portland Trail Blazers. #nba #trailblazers #clydedrexler
