loved our effort tonight I I you know hate it for our team that we didn’t win the game because um our guys played connected and they played hard exactly as we coached them and unfortunately you know we didn’t get the result we wanted but you know like we said last game this is the developmental opportunity for our guys and I know they took advantage of the opportunity we just didn’t get the result we want wanted to ask you about defensive effort that you saw tonight Anda what theyig thing he wanted to step up with with his defense just how do you see him kind of progressing in that area I think he took a step tonight um you know one of the things is you know recognition off the ball um and presence on the ball and again two things that we’ve been coaching all all camp and uh through the first couple games and the first game was solid and he took a he took a positive step tonight then with AJ four blocks tonight 22 points just what are you seeing from him and how can he potentially be somebody that’s in the rotation for season yeah I mean I think as as think as far as summer league is concerned like he connects us um he does small things I mean tonight it showed in the stats because he was getting to the free throw line I think he shot 10 free throws but he connects us with his ball movement um the ball found him back because he moves the ball for other guys and that’s what we want to see offensively saw nio in a boot uh after you know he left that injury another guard down for you guys just how tough he that yeah it’s tough um you know I like the guys that came in play like jel played more minutes tonight he brought some great energy um you know we sustained that energy throughout it you know um he’s got the left foot injury um you know but we’ll rally around him stay with him and uh we’ll have an update for him I just want to ask you about your coaching experience how different is it for you to go from assistant coach to head coach of the gag had the summer yeah it’s it’s uh it’s definitely different um you know I’m I’m really grateful to be here with the Hawks I’m really grateful uh for Coach Snider for having me here um and he’s given me a lot of great opportunities on our staff and this is this is one of them um you know I’m trying to do my best to serve our whole organization and um do the things that we want you know for our guys to our new guys to learn how to play within our system and our old guys to just continue to build the habits in what ways are you more comfortable now being a couple games with with these opportunities much like these players after their second years yeah no I I definitely feel a little more comfortable out there I think the biggest thing is being yourself um you know I’m trying my best to be myself I think other opportunities I’ve had I’ve tried to like be another coach or try to do some things differently we have a great group of players um that are a lot of fun to coach and and they’re easy to coach and because of that I can just be myself and Coach the game you have miked up second where I think you were quoting Brad or something um about how playing football you dive on the floor and stuff was that where that story came from yeah I think I might have made that one up um just I I was talking a little bit about uh you know talk to these guys about Butler and about you know my playing experience just playing hard and and you know I wasn’t very good but I could play hard and I mean these guys are e like I said they’re easy to coach um and so they made it easy for me to coach them and you know to share a story about diving on the floor uh is an important thing I think it happened but you know maybe not you and cam Woods both Butler guys both leading the summer league teams what do you remember about um kind what does it say more about your butler teams and Brad and that leadership that’s led to these moments for you guys yeah I think we were well coached I mean I think it starts there uh Brad is a great coach um and you know he encouraged all the guys to you know be the best they can be whatever they want to do but we watched a great coach and so in turn you want to coach and so it’s great to see you know my teammate cam Woods uh go out there and do his thing I think he won a g League Championship this year um I’m proud of him but I’m just grateful to be a part of it seeing from Mo seems like he’s been pretty aggressive especially on defense the last few yeah I mean it goes back to just our our our physicality our presence our energy Mo’s a big part of that um you know just the way he talks he communicates this development piece for him in summer league is is an opportunity for him to be a leader right he just had a he just had a uh a year of playing experience played in the G League a little bit play in the NBA at the end of the season now this is an opportunity for him to take another step um as a leader and to bring the guys together I think he’s doing that well you focused on defense you focused on offense how has that kind of provided a balanced you know complete U what you’re trying to get a outou for when you move into a head coach yeah I mean I think the biggest thing is just trying to be good now um you know trying to be you know the right coach for our summer league team um we do a lot of really good things in our organization and so to try to just continue to move that forward is like is my main focus right now what what was the overwhelming takeway from being on Quinn’s staff and what he added to what you know now I mean Quinn number one is a great guy um an easy guy to work for um you know the thing I like about him most is just um how empathetic he is how caring he is how much he cares for the people around him and um it’s a lot it’s great to learn from um you know there’s obviously things that you can take basketball-wise that I’m definitely Tak him because Quinn is a very intelligent coach but that’s the biggest thing is how he cares for people thanks
