I was just watching a video of Nick chub squatting over 500 40 lbs after getting ACL surgery absolutely insane but the Denver Nuggets their offseason news just keeps getting worse and worse and worse welcome into your Denver Sports Daily for July 15th let’s go taking you through your morning headlines it’s Denver Sports Daily with Rachel vill the Nuggets took another swing at finding a backup for Nicole yic and taking Holmes with the number 22 pick out of Dayton in the 2024 NBA draft now Don Holmes second was solid in his professional debut in Las Vegas league on Friday night but sadly it ended with the rookie leaving the court with a torn Achilles Holmes will miss the entire 2024 2025 NBA season after playing Just 25 minutes for the Nuggets due to the injury he had 11 points and seven rebounds in Denver’s 88 to 78 loss to the Clippers the Nuggets had hoped that they had finally found an answer in the draft by picking Holmes to a problem that has long plagued them a big who could slide in his power forward power forward and center and getting a rookie to do it right away would only help Nicole leic but unfortunately we will not be seeing donon Holmes anymore this was a massive blow for the Nuggets I couldn’t believe it when I saw it come across my timeline on Friday night just sucks I feel like so everybody was so high on Don Holmes so obviously we are sending Good Vibes for a quick and speedy recovery to him and we look forward to seeing him on the sidelines to cheer on the Nuggets this season and can’t wait to see him get back out on the court now speaking of Nicole yic the three-time MVP LED Serbia as they held on for a 79 67 win over France in an exhibition contest in Lion on Friday and Serbia’s first public warm-up game ahead of the 2024 per Olympics Nicole yach’s Squad took on the hosting nation in a match full of MBA players but it was Nicole yokich who took over like we all know and love that he does here in the Mal high city he scored 20 points on eight of 13 shooting while also snagging 12 rebounds there’s that double double again and Serbia dominated most of the game but the score remained close as Serbia struggled with at the line getting just 12 of their 23 free throws all whistled seemed to be bad news for Serbia as yic F out with a few minutes to go when facing Victor wanyama who also fouled out but Seria who struggled all game like we said without yic on the floor hit a few big threes to hang on for the win so it was really cool to be able to see yic get back out there he looks good it seemed like he was having fun and of course we’ll see what ends up happening in the Paris Olympics which you guys literally is so stinking close it’s going to be here before we know it our very own Jake Shapiro is actually going out to Paris for his honeymoon to go watch the Olympics so I’m hoping I can steal a few photos that he posts so I’m really excited for him we’re going to have to catch up with him one more time before he heads out to see where he’s going to be going who he’s going to be watching all that kind of jazz but yeah good for yic always happy to see him out there but you guys let’s get on to college football let’s go do we all remember this the quote that said I sat down with the ESPN today and I don’t care if they hear it in Boulder that’s what Jay norell said he said I told them that I took my hat off and took my sunglasses off when I said I talk to cron UPS I take my hat and sunglasses off yep that’s what my mother taught me how could we all forget the quote that essentially sparked so much controversy leading up to last year’s Rocky Mountain Showdown uh what happened out at center field when the two coaches said hello I guess we’ll never really know but it was obviously clearly a shot at coach Prime who usually wears a hat and sunglasses during all of his press conferences and his interviews and sander responded by giving out sunglasses to tral novel last year but he also thought that it was a shot at the way his mother raised him which of course nobody likes that so The Showdown did live up to the hype an epic two overtime Thriller that the Buffs eventually won 43 to 35 one of the craziest games I’ve ever been to Boulder was insane I can’t wait for this year’s it was absolutely one of those games where I feel like no matter the outcome you were just so lucky to be able to watch it I obviously graduated for CSU from CSU so for me to be like oh my gosh this is still such an incredible game even though the Buffs won tell you just how good that actual game was it was so much fun but in the postgame handshakes norval tried to tell Sanders at the line that it wasn’t about his mother so coach Prime said he didn’t believe him and well flash forward to this year and the game will be in Fort Collins in mid-september yes I can’t wait to get back up to FCO um but at the Mountain West media days in Las Vegas Norvell was asked about Coach Prime again and offered a brisky response take a listen because you’re facing Colorado again this year um has your feeling changed in regards to Deion Sanders and the respect Factor we Regard in the controversy I don’t have any feelings for Deion Sanders I really don’t I don’t think about Deion Sanders and um unless you guys ask me a question about him so um no nothing’s changed I think it’s kind of funny that I don’t think about Deon Sanders unless you guys ask me a question about him and do I believe that yeah probably I don’t think that he’s sitting around thinking about Dion and how they can possibly bleed him they have many other games on the schedule as well but the having to get a chunk of water or a drink of water right as the uh word Colorado came out definitely made me a little like okay this is a this is a soft point for you just a little bit but I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen out on the field of course because that’s what it’s all about so instead of going for that quote unquote Fresh Start in 2024 Jay norell isn’t backing down which I don’t blame him we love the fact that there is a rivalry now going on between those two schools that feels a little bit extra but this is supposed to be Sports hate between the two schools of course so Jay noral obviously earlier this year said we get to go get them in our Stadium this year it should be a great atmosphere people are excited about the game I am I’m really freaking pumped about the game and it should be incred an incredible night 5:30 p.m. ESPN September 14th we will be there it’s going to be so much fun I cannot wait for another edition of the Rocky Mountain Showdown okay so let’s move on to the MLB now because there is tons to talk about when it comes to the Colorado Rockies who ended up taking the University of Georgia stud Charlie kodon with the number three overall pick in the MLB draft on Sunday night first of all I hate the fact that the draft is in the middle of the season will never make sense to me that’s just my rant for this Monday it will never ever ever make sense to me that we do it in the middle of the season but I get it they go down to the minors they’re not really playing for the majors so I get it but it just it doesn’t sit well with me okay let me love with it um but codon was a monster for the Bulldogs last season posting a 433 Badd batting average hitting 37 home runs and adding 78 RBIs oh my goodness he’s going to be an absolute stud it was unclear if kodon would fall to the Rockies with the third pick but the Guardians and the Reds went in a different direction and that left him to head to Colorado um he was a red shirt sophomore at Georgia this past season putting up some of the best numbers in NCAA history codon played a variety of positions including first base third base and Outfield where he ultimately settles with the rocky or organization and will be something something to watch over the next few years as he makes his way through the minor leagues he was the national Player of the Year with the Bulldogs at ESPN says he could be hitting homers at C field sooner rather than later he’s 21 years old 6 foot6 and 216 pounds and sporting a lengthy frame with plenty of power now speaking of the Rockies this past weekend they made history which is hard to believe and it’s actually good history over the course of the three- game series versus the New York Mets the Rockies made history as they hit 12 home runs including six with Michael TOA contrib contributing half of them excuse me he had those six during SE Sunday’s 8 to five win um esquel toovar contributed two home runs and then Brendan Doyle had a solo shot in the sixth inning good for his 15th home run of the Season it was the most home runs ever hit by the Rockies in a single three game series 12 home runs I cannot believe that um it had to be so fun watching that game I did not tune into it I’ve seen a few highlights but the fact that we had 12 of them over three games is just absolutely insane so good news for the Rockies it sounds like they’re getting somebody really really good that will hopefully be able to join the majors before we know it and then of course you’re coming off of a really good series where you got 12 home runs not a bad weekend for the Rockies but to the NFL we go let’s go so the Buffalo Bills and the Pittsburgh Steelers are set to hold a junp training camp practice on August 15th 2024 in p Pennsylvania this event precedes their preseason game scheduled for August 17th in Pittsburgh you might be like Rachel why the heck do we care about this well first of all even though people say they don’t care about Russell Wilson I think a lot of people are interested to see who will be the starting quarterback for the Steelers come on the first game of the season but the joint practice marks the first for the Steelers since 2016 and is a significant event to prepare both teams as they prepare for the upcoming NFL season but also 22 teams are going to be participating in joint practice is obviously you can see the Denver Broncos down there at the bottom where it says Green Bay that’ll be here in the M high city which will be really exciting and that’ll be August 16th as they prepare for their preseason game but a lot of teams are going to be doing it and I actually think that it’s really cool to kind of see a list of all of these teams where they’re going to be traveling who they’re going to be with um we always get so many good you know clips and media sound bites and all sorts of stuff whenever there’s a joint practice plus I think it is a little bit of time for these players to kind of just hang out for a second right it’s like a field dig kind of at the end of the season where yes you are going up against a different team but it’s also still preseason so nobody’s trying to get hurt but now will say it happens every single year there’s at least one fight every single year there is one fight and it always Sparks major controversy and everybody’s like oh who’s to blame and all that kind of jazz so it’s fun uh definitely just another one of those interesting things though as 22 NFL teams I’m wondering who would the other 10 teams are going to do and why they’re not doing one I’ve always wondered why management would be like no we don’t need to do it so just a little interesting tidbit we will move on though to some rather sad news uh this weekend and it sparked a lot of talk on social media yesterday and that is former Ravens playoff hero jacobe Jones has died at the age of 40 according to reports Jones died in his sleep no cause of death has been announced Jones is known for the Mile High Miracle a game tying 70 yard touchdown catch versus the Broncos in the 2012 playoffs he would later score two touchdowns in Super Bowl 47 including the longest play in Super Bowl history a 108 yard kickoff return uh Ravens coach John hoba paid tribute in a statement released Sunday his Spirit enthusiasm and love for people were powerful he was a light my favorite jacobe personal moment was every time I saw him smiling every time I saw his smiling face full of joy we all remember it here in the mile high city and yes they do in fact call it the uh Mile High Miracle I was actually at that game it broke my heart it was on my birthday uh but to know that we actually got to see Jones and that moment um we obviously send our condolences to him to the entire re Ravens organization and to his family and friends as well as he again passed away at the age of 40 okay we will move on now to Miami because things got a little crazy uh this weekend as well so in case you missed it fans were climbing over walls and into ventilation shafts to get into the Hard Rock stadium uh and are being and are essentially being blamed for the delay of the Copa America Final on Sunday night in Miami Miami climbing into the ventilation staff yeah you heard me say that right you can see the crowds and here’s the thing it wasn’t just people that were coming out that had tickets to the game a majority of these people in fact did not have tickets and were just trying to get in to watch the game we’ve got a few other pictures that you can see people are literally getting trampled there were a ton of arrests there were a ton of people that ended up in the hospital we even have one more picture for you and I’m confused and it could be an emotional support dog so don’t get me wrong but this person has a dog and I’m like this this is scary first of all you should have put the dog in the backpack because this just looks terrifying the dog could get loose like things were just getting a little bit crazy I saw pictures with babies like newborn babies that were out there just absolute Madness down there in Miami tons of stuff going on so uh of course anybody that got hurt I hope that they are okay but the match eventually got underway 75 minutes late and saw Argentina beating Columbia the hard rck Stadium went on to say unruly fans without tickets tried to break into the state stum and at one point Gates were open to all fans to prevent stampedes in serious injury at the perimeter before being closed to everyone the stadium said is disappointed some fans with tickets did not make it in and say it will work to address those individual concerns I can’t imagine having tickets not being able to get in because of such Madness just crazy um again I’m just happy and hope that anybody that was hurt is okay and that there weren’t any other injuries or anything like that so and that’s going to do it though for our Monday day let’s see U let’s see let’s see let’s see morning Rachel countdown to spring training countdown to Wedding Bells spring training uh are you talking about training camp because spring training uh is definitely a ways away the training camp will be here in nine days I can’t even wrap my head around that that is crazy July 24th for the media July 26 for all of Broncos fans that’s the first time that they can get out there see B knck throwing some balls um but yes countdown to training camp for me and countdown to Wedding Bells it’s all going to be here before we know it um let’s see good morning Rachel once again sharing Monday madness with a smile yes plenty of good stuff to talk about some obviously sad stories um that we never want to be talking about but there was also a lot that happened this weekend so uh and then really sad to hear about jacobe Jones yes I think a lot of people were really taken back by that because he obviously passed at such a young age like I said we do pass along our condolences to all of the Ravens organizations and to all of his family and friends as well CU 40 is far far far too young but that’s going to do it for this
