Latest Rumors on Lauri Markkanen Split opinion at Summer League on what Jazz should do on trade

no one knows what the Utah Jazz should do about Lowry markeing well everyone has an opinion but they’re not the same it’s next on locked on Jazz you are locked on Jazz your daily podcast on the Utah Jazz part of the locked on podcast Network your team every day how are you I’m David lock radio voice Utah jazz jazz NBA Insider this is locked on Jazz your daily podcast on the Utah Jazz coming to you from Las Vegas here’s what we got for you on today’s show the latest from Shams two different reports one written one audio about what the Jazz are doing with Lowry Markin and then I was I’m in Vegas at summer league and the number one convers ation everyone wants to have with me what do you think the Jazz are going to do at Lowry which I then answer every single person with what do you think they should do and it’s pretty interesting how there’s absolutely no consensus from anyone on what the Jazz should do about it we’ll talk about all those things which is better than talking about last night’s Summer League game the Jazz are brutal um the Taylor Hendrick alarm buttons are going off for lots of fans we’ll talk about it uh a little bit some interesting notes on shot selection in the NBA for individual players as well that’s all coming up on today’s show I Am David lock radio voice of the Utah Jazz Jazz NBA Insider this is locked on Jazz your daily podcast on the Utah Jazz giving you Insight expertise geeky numbers and hopefully making it way better to be a jazz fan each and every day thank you so much for making locked on Jazz your first listen of the day and the every dayers out there so great to say hi to so many of you in the arena last night there were two brothers that came up to me at the end of the night who had literally listened from the very beginning dropped me a note a long time ago about how they lived in different states and that this was how they stayed connected was super cool to meet them um after the game uh met a bunch of kids as well it it is a fun fun environment just rode the elevator with a nice woman from Virginia who brought her younger brother out as a present uh to come to Summer League so it’s it’s a fun environment out here to be basketball junkies and and be with everyone had a had a nice dinner with friends saw Kevin Pelton saw Alex sat with Alex Jensen for a little while last night um good old friend and uh checked in and so really wonderful um saw Nate Duncan who’s just doing incredible work on the dunon podcast um saw Jackson Gatlin of locked on Rockets I you don’t saw Katie hendle is a brilliant writer saw Howard Beck so all sorts of of really uh talented people uh today’s episode is brought to you by fandu will make every moment more as play play offs wind down the sports stops sporting like we want them to but this summer FanDuel is hooking up all customers with a boost or a bonus daily that’s right there’s something for everyone every day all summer long visit fanduel.com all right let’s get the two different reports that Shams had yesterday on the athletic or call it the New York Times now um on the New York Times and in a report so his first report was that the Golden State Warriors are the most engaged team in the top for Lowry and then according to his sources the proposals around Moses Moody multiple first round picks multiple pick swaps multiple second round picks the Jazz have however have asked for a bulk of young talent and capital from the Warriors including Moody kaminga psky along uh with picks uh which has been a non-starter for Golden State we should discuss probably tomorrow moody kaminga or psky the different value of all three so we’ll we’ll Pro I don’t have I haven’t researched that well enough I mean I can probably do off top of my head but how about I do it a little bit better tomorrow so that’s the first one um the second one is um the other report he had is that it requires about 15 million in cap space for the Jazz to get him up to 33 mil I I’m hearing it could take more than 15 million of cap space to get Lowry’s extension done that the extensions getting more expensive by the day um that would be kind of one other thing that was kind of being mentioned about by people I don’t know if they’re in the no or if that’s just an opinion that’s kind of hard to sometimes tell then Shams went on uh a show uh with am me El Hassen at summer league and said if Golden State put a Brandon psky uh three first round picks four unprotected pick swaps three or four second round picks at that point the host kind of interrupts him but you’re getting the idea of what people think the Jazz have to get in this deal uh kaminga uh he went on to say kaming is a name but I think from everything I’m told the Jazz are more focused on pky and the inclusion in the deal all the picks being in the deal and I think from the Warriors perspective it’s psky but then that’s not all the picks it’s all the picks uh and they’re not going to be psky so moody psky and kaminga are the three names we kind of knew that I’m not sure how much of this is like brand new information uh but it does I mean this is a hall right if this is you know three first round picks multiple pick swaps um that’s that’s a hall um from very ious people um or you know various pick from the from the Warriors now you also have to decide where you think the Warriors are going to be and what those picks are worth right we’ve talked about this a lot on what do a pick really worth you know there they sound sexy and they sound great and pick swaps are really interesting but let’s kind of make sure we understand a few things and how you’d have to structure some things here so let me start with just you know a pick after the 11th pick of the draft any pick you’re getting and assuming the Warriors aren’t going to be one of the bottom 10 teams in the NBA with the peel of that market it you’re kind of 5050 if you’re getting a rotation player now it’s a shot right every single time it’s a shot for for something to happen and that’s what you’re really paying for is the shot but the fact is that that’s the truth is that that’s not you know it’s not a um it’s not a guaranteed player in fact it’s after the 11th pick of the draft it’s 5050 if you’re getting a rotation player it’s less to get a starter and so if you’re getting you know four picks the odds are you’re getting two rotation players out of it now pick swaps are interesting but here’s what’s really interesting with the jazz on pix swaps so 2025 pick swap to us would be worth nothing right we we know Golden State will be better than us in 2025 if we’ve just traded Lowry in 2026 we have a pick swap with both Cleveland and Minnesota which if we trade Lowry all also both of those become valueless I there’s very little chance we would be better than them we get to 2027 that’s a year where we could do a pick swap with the Warriors and maybe Steph gets old and you never know we’ve brought it together they like you never know and we have Cleveland’s pick that year we have Minnesota’s pick that year we have the Lakers pick that year and then we could have a pick swap in 2027 in 2028 we already have a pick swap with Cleveland you can’t pick swap more I mean you can you do you get the best of the three so it’s an option 2029 we have Cleveland’s pick we have Minnesota’s protect protected pick and we have our pick so that’s another year you could do a pick Swap and then 2030 we have our own pick so when you start to talk about these pick swaps with the Warriors you’re probably only pick swapping 2027 and 2029 and then you’re going to want the Warriors picks for 2028 2030 I don’t know that you really want a and maybe 2026 so you’re you’re trying to get the Warriors picks for 2026 2028 2030 I guess you’re you’re shooting for 32 as well maybe three first round picks depending how many players you get and you’re pick swapping 27 29 31 that’s kind of the way you laid it out the one thing that get does get interesting from a jazz perspective here is after you know in 28 we only have one pick that would give us two picks in 30 that would give us two picks in 2026 that would give us two picks in every other draft we only have in those drafts 26 28 and 30 we only have one pick and so maybe this gets interesting in the sense that you’re able to get two picks in those drafts we’ll do commin we’ll do kaminga Pinsky or psky sorry or Moody tomorrow imagine if I was running for president and they took every time I misspoke um be really disastrous however the most interesting part of Summer League to me and I was there for you know two there for the night and I’ll be there all day today so I’ll have more tomorrow was how the different opinions and I’m going to share without obviously using any names two of the two people who I really respect in this business one of them I’ve probably known for as long as anyone I’ve known and the two different opinions on what the Utah Jazz should do with Lowry marinin next we’re just getting started on today’s edition of lock on Jazz Today’s Show is brought to you by Murdoch Hyundai located at 4646 South think the Jazz should keep Lowry marketing comment section let me know if you think you should trade them here’s the on YouTube or hit me on X okay here’s the here’s two conversations so I walked in the arena last night uh see Jackson Gatlin have locked on Rockets first tip of the Hat then see Howard back Katy hendle who I mentioned Katy hendle is a fabulous basketball writer by the way if you do not know her basketball poetry I think’s her newsletter one of the best out there I subscribed to very few newsletters I subscribed to hers um because it’s great um so I walk in see a buddy longtime NBA friend and then he’s like what are you going to do with Lowry and I like I don’t know what do you think we should do you got to move him your timeline’s off you have to move Lowry your timeline’s off I was like well like what do you mean he’s like and I was like well I said you know Danny has said in a press conference that he doesn’t want to be in a position where when they actually get somebody that they’re still three or four years away he’s like you’re still three or four years away anyway you got to move Lowry right now and I was like well what do you get for him he’s like get three or four picks and bunch of pick swaps and um and and maybe a player and then we discuss Jonathan kaminga who I have mixed opinions on because he can’t really shoot I like players who can shoot and Boston had eight players who take three threes a game and they just won the NBA title and I think everyone in your rosters got to be able to shoot or at least most of most of the seven or eight nine players who play and so we went back and forth and his argument very definitively was you have to move Lowry now because it doesn’t match your timeline you’re going to sign to a bunch of money you’re not going to be able to win with him right now against where the West is and and so therefore the right move is to move Lowry so great conversation interesting perspective then I went and bumped into guy I’ve known for another like long time maybe the longest you know NBA person I’ve known for a long time super hard worker great guy very impressive and I was like what do you think he like it you keep him it’s a talent League how can you possibly give up Talent it’s hard to acquire Talent You’ve Got Talent you go get it you keep talent and I was like well I just talked to a guy who said like what about the fact that like you know you’re you you you or time he if you go to the mat in this league he said if you go to the mat in this league you go to the you could stay there forever he said do you know how hard it is to get off the mat in this league he said I I’ll tell you what I believe that you’re you get Talent you keep talent and you’re better off building from that spot than you are going all the way to the mat and going to the bottom he’s like you know like and his big point was it’s a talent League you have one of the most talented players in the league you keep them and you and you work around that and then you continue to try to build from he didn’t say the middle but he was like it his point was like to the amount of pieces that you need if you go to the bottom to be able to work your way back up is enormous this is two people I’m probably for the sake of the funest of um the conversation making him sound more immediate than they were it wasn’t like the first five minutes I walked in the arena that both of them but just conceptually imagine that like you literally walk in see one guy walk over literally five steps next day not totally the way it worked but totally different perspectives two guys paid by the league two guys super highly well respected two guys like who I think are both really really good at their jobs two people I love talking the game with two people who I respect their opinions and they totally Divergent totally Divergent which should make like your chat room on Reddit and your conversation on the YouTube chat room here much more consolatory frankly it’s a little bit whether the cabie should have been charging me or not if you follow me on Twitter like it was literally 50/50 so it is what jumped out to me is it’s not black and white at all and then I do think it gets into from there I think it gets into some of the idiosyncrasies that only probably Justin zanic Danny a Ryan Smith and the staff know so the first question is what’s it going to take to extend Lowry and is he perfectly willing to be extended and if he is then that allows for the second guy’s opinion to become involved right if there’s any part of lowry that’s not willing to be extended then the first guy’s conversation is all that matters the second one in this conversation is do you care so if you follow the story because of Lowry’s extension date with Cleveland and because or or signing date with Cleveland and because of where the trade deadline is six months after that Lowry can’t sign till August 6th the trade deadline is February 7th if Lowry were to wait to sign the deal on August 8th he’s not tradable this year is that prohibitive would the Jazz say to Lowry hey by the way here’s your deal but you have to sign on the six that’s pretty brutal because that’s basically saying hey you sign your deal but we’re playing to trade you to somewhere you have no control over if I’m a player I’m probably not doing that in fact the Jazz offer it on the sixth I’m sure everyone knows what the offer would be by the sixth and Lowry decides to wait till the seventh or eth like are the jazs going to just pull the office and say actually it’s not valid anymore I don’t think so the other question would just be a little bit of like draft asset that’s actually available I haven’t you know in that conversation we just had we outlined that years the Jazz would probably want I H I actually didn’t go back to go look at what the Warriors have available they’re a little restricted in what some of their picks are and so if you know it’s suddenly the Jazz have a strategy that they want two picks every year and this trade would allow them to do that does that somehow make it more appealing and a better trade than it would be otherwise um The Warriors seem to have every pick available but 2030 that 2030 is protected you could actually take that pick with the protection it goes to Washington at 21 through3 it goes to the Warriors at 1 through 20 you could actually take that 30 pick with the protection and pick swap the others so for your discussion and where you are how fun none of us have to make the heart-wrenching decision none of us have to figure out what’s right we get to just discuss it and I’ll continue discuss it for the next two days and share what people are saying but it’s pretty fascinating to me that like it’s it’s absolutely 5050 in the people I talk to and definitively set 5050 in other words their opinion as is often the case in this league is not nuanced it is definitive they have a philosophy they have a belief that’s what they think and they’ll and and that’s what and that’s the right thing to do pretty fascinating give me your thoughts on the chat room on what you think the Jazz should do thumbs up if you think the Jaz should keep Lowry and believe in what the second guy said like you just don’t go to the mat in this leag you’re better off building while you’re from from the middle developing and putting it together you go to the mat you could be there for a long long time and the first guy says you got to trade Lowry the timeline just doesn’t match I’m not sure I’m a Believer in Timeline by the way I would have to say that that’s the one thing I’ve never quite understood because there’s an implication of timeline that you kind of know what’s going to happen when his point though he thinks will be bad for 3 years regardless of what’s pulled off the next analysis we’re going to do later this week is the big game hunting Mist over the last two years where have we met porzingis Drew holiday Mel Bridges we’ve tried to get involved in some big game hunting and we haven’t got him why not and what’s causing that it’s good for the discussion all right last night’s game by the Jazz was frankly brutal but we’re going to talk about it next on locked on Jazz today’s edition of locked on jazz is brought to you by our friends over at FanDuel fanduel’s doing great stuff love it it’s a show in which we get you the top six shows in top six Sports show uh stories of the day and run through them with the local Experts of locked on you’re way more knowledgeable than you would be anything else all in an hour plus today might be a better day for locked on sports today which is a shorter version of the biggest stories today give you kind of a recap that all of it’s taking place all right Jabs were bad last night let’s just be totally honest about it they had 19 turnovers and trailed 4825 at the half um they just kept dribbling into traffic and having nowhere to go and throwing it away and it was just a mess um Cody Williams and Taylor Hendricks were both score less at halftime Kyle filipowski just wow looked like his confidence was Zapped turnovers everywhere all right happens we’re not going to freak out that’s are those are all facts by the way like there’s like I’d love to pretend and try to tell you that something else happened last night but I was in the arena I saw it if you were watching it you saw it and there’s zero reason to freak out about or to freak out about it or zero reason to lie to you about it it was ugly it was really quite horrendous they were down 12 nothing to start and then they just they actually played the second half better and what’s great about summer league is you kind of didn’t the scores you know obviously like Sean Sheldon Jazz head coach the summer league would like to get his team to be able to make it to the semi-finals or finals and be in that environment and those kind of things um so the box score line that jumps out to everyone today and is all over everything and I can’t blame anyone is that Taylor Hendricks went 0 for six last night 0 for three from three with three points five rebounds and two assists and you would hope that in his second year that Taylor Hendricks would come into summer league and have like a pretty big impact I think I’m not certain but I think as the talent gets less good around him Taylor’s going to struggle more at this point Taylor’s game is completely based on the other players around him his handle is not good enough to make plays himself if he’s going to get out out and run it’s because it’s the Jazz got to stop defensively and did something and if he’s going to be able to kind of get where he he can’t get get open shots it’s because other guys on the floor the floor is going be space the defense rotates and breaks down and as keante play doesn’t play and as Bryce Sensa gets hurt and as Jason Preston leaves the team for personal reasons all of a sudden the talent on the floor is less than it was before and that hurts Taylor tlor tlor at this point is I think a player who is dependent to be around good players Taylor will play better when he’s playing around John Collins and Colin Saxton and Lowry Markin and keontay George maybe even in the starting lineup like that’s that now it is still dis like it is still like disappointing and there you know I think in all of this you’re trying to watch moments and flashes I thought Cody Williams had a bunch of moments and flashes last night I thought filipowski in the second half looked a little better after a pretty brutal first half and had a moment or two of flashes Isaiah Coler one day after having one turnover had seven so I’m really curious to see what he does next I go back to what Evan Brad said to me last year Jazz’s assistant coach about rookies I don’t care what they do the first time it’s the second time I want to see how they react to it um so you know and Taylor is interesting to me because you want him to be a little bit more aggressive and more confident but it seems as though that bends off him getting a good look early and making a shot and kind of getting into the flow that way um for him to be able to get that feeling and that’s dependent on other people people and when the talent around you gets less good then he’s probably less able to do that so um it yeah the other the only thing on Taylor that I would say and I I feel like this about summer league box scores are misleading you’re watching for moments and things and like Cody Williams last night had a bunch of moments he had a Baseline Drive where he moved it and dunked it he came off one foot again got another dunk he had some open moments he hit a pull up jumper isaah Coler had some moments where he really pushed he had an open floor player where nobody could stay in front of him like there were all the little flashes of Coler 7 turnovers disappointing but I thought like there’s a bunch of St the one on Taylor that is actually jumping out to me is how often he’s off balance and what’s interesting to me about that is if you look at him he looks dramatically different I I’ll give our strength and conditioning staff credit Bryce Sensa and Taylor Hendricks look way way different than what they look like before Taylor’s lower body is just so much thicker and stronger and makes you believe that maybe he could put on another 10 points 10 10 pounds what’s interesting to me is that with this obvious clearly increased strength his balance is does not seem to be better he’s off balance and jostled and moved around and when he’s trying to make a play like more so than seems natural to me again I kind of talked about this yesterday you got to be super careful that like the minute you begin to see something it like just kind of comes back to you all the time regardless and you’re missing all the times it doesn’t happen I really tried to watch the lateral stuff I talked about yesterday and he I didn’t think he had a bad night moving laterally so that now makes me begin to wonder whether I just saw it a few times and it kind of went into my head but that would be the one thing I’ve noticed but I the positive is that he’s so much stronger I our strength and conditioning staff really did an incredible job with both he and Bryce sensal looks totally different than they looked before all right Jazz have the day off today and then they go B they will battle it up with um uh on on Wednesday and I will watch that game as well we’ll be back with you from Vegas tomorrow I’m going head over to the arena watch a bunch of games today uh super fun setting so thank you very much for tuning in to today’s edition of locked on Jazz you are locked on Jazz your day daily podcast on the Utah Jazz part of the locked on podcast Network your team every day

Lauri Markkanen continues to be the talk of the NBA. The New York Times had new reports on the trade talks and who is being discussed on the deal. David Locke, radio voice of the Utah Jazz and Jazz NBA Insider, shares the talk around Las Vegas Summer League and the different opinions from well-respected smart NBA people.

One person says the Jazz have to move Lauri and another says you never get rid of talent.

The Utah Jazz summer league performance last night was not a good one as turnovers killed the Jazz early in a loss to the Sacramento Kings

  1. Mr lock.. my opinion is to keep laury and next year try with some luck to get flag…. I think this is the best scenario for chips..

  2. I think we should keep him. He’s so much better than what Golden State has to offer. None of those players will be borderline all stars. The picks will be late round picks as well.

  3. In 22 the spurs moved from Dejounte Murray. They landed bottom of the west and got Wemby. Wonder if now Spurs fans are split on whether that was the right move?

  4. Your my favorite YouTuber because my wife physically gets ill every time she hears your voice! LOL

  5. If we get a pick swap from the Warriors in 2025, I'm pretty sure it can be stipulated so it can be swapped with Minnesota or Cleveland's pick, not just the Jazz pick. The Minnesota pick will probably be 27 through 30, so swapping that with the Warriors pick will be beneficial. Same is true in 2027.

  6. Hey it is next to impossible to find someone as good as Markannen who loves Utah. This summer proved it by the difficulty of signing Free Agents. Stockton and Malone made themselves into superstars. Let the current crop of players develop into a great player. Both Stockton and Malone had issues with their play, but worked incredibly hard to get better. I think that is the way to go. Larry Miller had the right idea.

  7. We are stupid to trade a bird in the hand that plays very well for the unknown first round players that rarely become good. Losing Mitchell several years ago was absolute stupid, look at how good he is in the NBA. We have no one that good now. He was very rare. Lauri Markkanen is very good but D. Mitchell is still better. What kind of team would we have now if he was here now? We need to make better decisions on players.

  8. The pick swaps aren’t value less if you make them super swaps. A super swap in 25/27/29/31 would be the Jazz can swap any of their current owned picks in those years with GSW. So pick our worst pick each swap year between Jazz, Cavs, twolves, lakers and we swap it with GSW. We almost certainly will move up at least a couple spots and then maybe more if one team like TWolves are really good and GSW are average. Even 2025 the twolves look better than GSW. We could move up 5-10 spots in a loaded draft. That’s good value. That’s based on history an exacted couple second rounders to maybe two firsts.

  9. Like I keep on saying the jazz gets.Players improves them big time and then get rid of them. They get paid off by other teams

  10. A top 30 player who wants to be here is rare. Keep Lauri. Tell him to sign the extension on the 7 or 8th to avoid the distracting trade talk mid year

  11. Tank over everything. If keeping Lauri means we miss out on a top 5 pick then he has to go
    Luckily I don't think that's necessarily true

  12. I think, ideally, you keep him. Would he even sign with us if the plan is to tank yet another year– To waste another year of his prime? In my opinion we could make the playoffs right now. Who else would you have to unload from the roster and for how long would you have to sit your best players, in order, to, procure another top pick?

  13. I'm agnostic. We already unloaded Conley, Gobert, and Mitchell, so 'going to the mat' isn't out of the realm of possibility and we got an All Star and Sexton back for Mitchell so it's not definitive that letting go of talent is always bad.

I think you offer Lauri the extension. If he waits a couple days so he can't be traded, I'm fine with that as it will indicate he's not just 'talent' but 'talent that wants to be here despite losing'. If he signs right away, then you still have the option to trade before the All Star break, which might mean OKC or GSW are willing to offer more if they need a piece for a championship run.

Either way I don't see a point in rushing to get a trade done.

  14. Kuminga will be better than Lauri in a year or two…Podz will have more of an impact than Lauri will ever have…keep Lauri we good

  15. I think the timeline talk is more from Lauris point of view. Does he want to spend is prime tanking for 3 years waiting for possible try at playoffs?

  16. Love the perspective about keeping and building talent. Stockton and Malone are exhibits A and B for the Jazz about how correct that is. I think it's a ton easier to keep talent when you have it than to find it. I hope they extend Lauri and I'll be very disappointed if they trade him.

I think Keyonte + Lauri is a dynamic pair to build around. Aside from Game 1 in SLC, I think Key has looked a lot more mature this year and is ready to take a big step forward.

  17. Ainge said it. You keep Lauri unless you are completely blown away by an offer. Golden State is NOT capable of making that kind of offer, bc Podz/Kuminga just don’t quite have that kind of upside. Other teams (Hou, OKC, Orl, et al), that have the ammo, Ainge should absolutely hear out.

  18. We definitely need to keep Lauri. The asking price is ever growing it seems like. He's one of the few stars wo actually wants to stay in Utah (which is impossible to find) No, he's not someone you can build around but he may be someone that could lure a potential franchise player here. We do need to secure ourselves a lottery pick in this unprecedented 2025 draft, but we don't have to deal Lauri to do it. There are other players we could trade instead. What about John Collins, Collin Sexton or Jordan Clarkson?

  19. On the Spurs note……the Spurs are not letting go of all the first picks specially not 2025 and the only young starter they would include in a trade is Keldon, DA and his jazz are on hard drugs if they think they can get DV and the 25 1r picks LMAO also Lori is injury prone

  20. It's silly to ask if the Jazz should trade him or not. It should all be taken in context. What are you getting back? Maybe it goes back to why trade Rudy and Donovan? Has anything changed?

  21. I think you keep Lauri and trade the other vets. Lauri alone isn’t enough to make us win so I’d move John Collin’s and Clarkson for sure to open up more minutes for Kyle, Walker, Collier and Williams. I’m on the fence about trading Sexton still.

  22. Hmm let’s see we have a 7 footer who is the best shooter in the league or we get a handful of late to middle first round picks are you kidding yeah you keep him

  23. We really need to keep Markkanen. Along with rookies you need some veterans and especially someone that will be vested in Utah.

  24. now i can see why Jazz is always a mediocre/bad team in the west the past 25 years…

you either tank and rebuild with a star who can be a #1 option on your team like Spurs
or you freaking compete by trading ur future like Wolves

Jazz people think Lauri is a top player that can build a team with…and Warriors barely think he's enough for a #2…
I guess thats the difference between a good and a bad franchise..

value wise, Mikal Bridges has a better contract than Lauri, but not as good as a player, so 5 frp + 1 swap would be a reasonable price for Lauri

now if you look at this value of those picks from Bridges, 2- 2025 picks from top10 teams, 1-2027 pick most likely Knicks still a top 10 team, 29, 31 unknown.

Warriors will provide 26 frp (probably still a top 15 team) 28 frp (this is highly likely a lottery pick) and a say 29 frp from another team (say mediocre), + 2 good swaps, 29 and 31(which likely they are in a rebuilding phase)
Now JK at minimum worth a first round lottery pick, Moody is a 8-10 rotation player on Warriors which i would count at least as a value of a first round swap, Podz is again at least a first round lottery pick

so JK + Moody + 1.5 first round lottery pick + 1.5 first round pick +2 good swaps

thats 2.5 first round lottery picks + 1.5 first round pick + 3 good swaps
I would call it a fair trade.

the funny thing is Warriors fans think JK worth at least 2 frp and Jazz think Lauri worth more than 4pick + 3 swaps…both sides are pretty stupid…

  25. I've been a jazz fan since the 80s. I have always heard media and other fans say that the jazz need to trade their best players because it would be the best idea for the franchise.
That's like Democrats telling Republicans that they need to do this and this and this if they ever want to win an election again.
Most fans and media would be very happy if the jazz were never a playoff team again.
For whatever reason, there is a strong sentiment that is offended if Utah has a good NBA team.

  26. Too many fans have the attitude of championship or nothing. It's sad.
I've ben a jazz fans since Malone arrived and it's been a great nearly 40 years. Yes, I wanted to win in 97 and 98. But those were great years.
One of the best years was the 42 win team with Arroyo and Kirilenko. That was so fun.
I enjoy watching great basketball and watching the jazz players give it their all.
The past 2 years have been completely lame. Seeing a team try hard at first and do all right and then have the team go into tank mode. I stopped watching both years. Those are the only 2 years that I stopped watching alltogether.

I have a bunch of friends from the Northwest. I talked with them a few years ago. They talked about how they SOOOOOO wanted the Seahawks to win a super bowl, and then it finally happened. They said it was great for a few days and then didn't matter that much. After that, they cared less and less. Getting the super bowl the next year was nice but losing it wasn't a big deal.
Getting a title didn't make their lives any better.

  27. I think Ainge screwed up. Warriors offered a boat load of picks and swaps and a really good sharpshooting young player with hustle. The alternative is be stuck with a guy that won’t match Flagg’s timeline and wants a max deal that he’s not worth.

  28. Its not just about drafting well but building well around the right pieces. Stockton and Malone were the right pieces but Larry Miller was cheap and they all waited for them to make miracle and win. Jazz bench in 90s were pathetic (Foster, Orstateg, Spencer, Anderson, Keefe, John Crotty, old Mark Jackson, Scott Padget, Polynice, old John Starks, washed Danny Manning etc etc etc). They traded Dantley for peanuts. Hope Danny keeps Lauri and build correctly.

  29. David, LHM built a team that was competitive, and because of that the Utah Jazz have a mostly loyal fan base. The problem here is that the fan base is losing interest in the Jazz because Ainge keeps playing the TANK card at the trade deadline, and losing out to supposedly acquire better draft talent. But when you've got fans that are paying upwards of $5000 or more for season tickets or even UtahJazzPlus, and they aren't getting value for that investment in the team, you eventually are going to lose the interest of the fans. And like it or not, professional sports is a business, and you'd better put out a product that those fans want to watch and support. I agree with the person with the 2nd opinion, because talent is very hard to find and you go to the mat with that person. The Warriors are trying to do exactly that with Stef Currie, and go to the mat with him and Draymond Green. You don't give up on talent. You build and support around it. Keep Lauri!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
