New Suns Guard Collin Gillespie On What He Can Bring To Phoenix

obviously uh you played Summer League last year so I was curious why not give another crack this uh logistically like when I signed uh coming from Denver they were already a couple days into practice and uh when I had gotten to Phoenix they had already been there uh for a couple days so logistically I talked to the coaches and the timing didn’t really work for me so uh I just wanted to be around the team support them I’m out here working out and I’ll be here all week with those guys so uh yeah that’s really what it was that you’ve been working on specifically in Vegas uh I mean everything shooting uh just getting to know people getting to know the coaching staff uh front office guys uh people that I’ll be working with and then uh whenever I’m working out working on my game I’m working on everything trying to expand everything just become a complete player you uh just a sense of calmness uh I feel like I’m an elite shooter uh I can run run the point guard position really well get guys shots especially the guys that I’ll be playing with or Elite scorers just find them in spots for them to get the ball uh and score and have the best opportunity to help us win in terms of weighing your different options what kind of stood out to you about this situation in Phoenix I mean I thought it was a really good opportunity obviously last year um I think everybody saw they didn’t have really many point guards um and obviously they sign we signed Monte uh who I’ve known for for a little bit now um been able to play with uh with him work out with him a little bit um great player but yeah the situation fit here uh being on a two-way trying to hopefully earn a contract uh and just have more opportunity to play uh last year I played a little bit but um not as much just kind of spot when Jamal went down so hopefully I’ll be able to get a little more opportunity here and show what I could do more consistently what did you take from your two years in Denver obviously you know Championship organization and all that yeah definitely a high level organization uh they do things the right way and I was around a lot of great vets I had a lot of great vets that I played with uh so I got to kind of learn uh the game how to go about every day um and learning it at the NBA level obviously when you come from college it’s very different and uh just taking it day by day and um learning how to manage your time work out take care of your body uh and just learn the game mentally so I’ve done a lot I did a lot there with that and uh when I was able to play just try to take advantage opportunities yeah yeah I mean I’d rather play with them than play against them so uh obviously one of the best players ever play the game and um I’m excited to share the floor with those guys and uh be able to watch them and be around them pick their brain and uh they’ve been around around for a long time they they’re there’s three of the greatest players to play so I’m excited for it two contract how do you kind of mentally approach that situation yeah I mean the same way uh be a pro obviously come in every day get your work in um and hopefully just get a little bit of opportunity and take advantage of the opportunity and um I feel like I I know I can play in this league I I’m ready for a bigger opportunity a bigger role so I think this situation was good for me not having a lot of point guards on the roster but I’m excited for it last thing I had was you mentioned Monte how did you know him and what other connections on Sons do you have uh yeah I mean obviously playing uh he played in Denver and when I got to Denver he was on his way out but he’s still close with some of the staff over there and uh I was at a CP3 Camp last year working out and playing so and he was there with me so I got to work out with him last summer so i’ I’ve known him since
