Ariel Hukporti balled out today in the Knicks Summer League win versus the Kings. Finished with 11 points (5-7 FG), 10 rebounds, a block and a steal. Great showing from our (potential?) backup center!

Remember Kevin Knox (that’s all I’m going to say about Summer league)

potential backup when mitch’s contract is up? absolutely could happen. he can’t play this year.

He’s 2 years away from being 2 years away

I don’t think either of the summer league centers will make the Knicks roster. They both leave a lot of work to do, especially defensively. They’re constantly a step slow. If this is a problem now, then those guys would get destroyed on the main roster. IMO they’re not strong enough on the boards either.

Unfortunately he lacks lateral quickness, and that’s something our big men need when all of our competition has centers with spacing.

He’s not as bad as people are making him out to be, obviously doesnt look ready and was lost alot the first two games. This game you can start to see things clicking for him, he was starting to get more aggressive down low and attack on the boards. The my big takeaways from him right now.
1. Needs to be better on boxing out and screens: he is a decent screener but he looks lost on box outs, I am not concerned about him improving as once he is actually in organized practice this is something easy to iron out, especially since he seems to be a decently natural rebounder.
2. Needs to almost never put the ball on the ground: Again, something that thibs would never let him get away with, but this he is wreckless the second the ball touches the court.
3. Has potential to be a good help defender, but looks lost, especially on switches. He is looking better with each game, and missed a lot of time to injury recently. Has been getting more comfortable attacking shooters on the jump in this game.
4. Has surpisingly soft touch for a big, but needs to work on every shot including lobs/dunks.
5. Not a rim protector and probably will never be one, but has the size, skill, and athleticism. Maybe thibs can work something out of him.

We’re in championship mode, we’re not going with a rookie as our big-man backup, especially with Mitch’s injury history. But I love to see him progress in the G League like McBride did

Was it four years ago that Mitch broke through during the Summer League? Huk gives those vibes.

Yeah one of those missed FGs was an atrocious airball hook shot. I mean atrocious. No vertical arc and it went at the rim like a missed. *Tried to go at the rim*

He showed some flashes relax, that’s good. I hope he builds off this.

Replacing a black German with another one is the formula
