Raptors lose first game of Vegas Summer League to Jazz – Struggles & Upside shining
The Raptors kicked off Vegas Summer League with one of the most loaded rosters in recent memory, even after losing Drew Timme. And they didn’t disappoint.
Ulrich Chomche, Ja’Kobe Walter, Jonathan Mogbo and Jamal Shead are just 4 of the things to watch for Toronto. Branden Carlsen has been a revelation as a stretch 5 and despite some up-and-down moments Gradey has been alright. Ochai, Jamison Battle and others have been good, and Jevon Freeman-Liberty almost makes the Raptors unfair.
They have their work cut out against Utah, with a bunch of talented kids, including USC guard Isaiah Collier and big Kyle Filipowski.. the guys many fans FELT the Raptors should have drafted in place of Walter and Mogbo. Should be fun.

Playing without Gradey Dick and Jonathan Mogbo, the Toronto Raptors weren’t able to keep their perfect Summer League record alive.
The Utah Jazz broke out to a big lead in the second quarter and were able to hold off the Raptors’ late comeback effort to take an 86-76 win on Wednesday night.
Toronto turned to a full-court press in the final minutes of the fourth quarter that helped them chip into Utah’s lead — cutting their deficit as low as six — but Utah’s lead was a little too big to overcome.
Javon Freeman-Liberty led the way for Toronto, pouring in 24 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the floor and 3-of-6 shooting from deep. He also mixed in two rebounds and three assists in just less than 24 minutes.
No other Raptors scored in the double digits, but undrafted free agent signing Branden Carlson made an impact on both ends of the floor, recording seven points, five rebounds and two blocked shots.
Jamal Shead finished with seven points, four rebounds, two assists and four steals, helping the Raptors’ comeback effort with his work on the defensive end.

I was hoping to draft Filipowski at 31. When I saw him play today, I was shocked – fluid and so skilled….😭. He looked like a seven footer with guard skills!
Appreciate your new communication style plan Rob. I've struggled at work with being too matter of fact, negative in my tone and prickly. Reminding myself every morning to be chill at work is the only thing that has helped haha. Thanks for another detailed live I can't get anywhere else!
Much appreciated on the Jaokim shout out. LOVED his intelligence and tenacity. Big fan of Yannick growing up as well 👏
Kind of love how you went from sounding not overly enthused about Chomche talk on draft night especially before the 45th pick was made and some were talking about him, to now where you're seeing what we see. The passing tonight and that very easy alley oop finish made me one happy Raptor fan. Really like this kid. I thought we may have to wait 3 years for him to be in rotation. He might beat that prediction. Lastly I really like how he looks the media right in the eye. I wish I had half the confidence he does when I was that age. lol
The way you feel about Ulrich is the way I looked at Neemias Queta 3 years ago. I watched him at college, and Kings g league loved everything he did. I still think he has a high ceiling, Ulrich is so humble and hard working like Queta he will definitely be good.
Liked what I saw from Cody Williams from his limited time with the ball, really wish we had found a way to trade up and draft him. He's going to be a tier-1 role player in a couple years once he conditions a bit more and gets some more nba experience.
46:07 "If everyone has it, and you have it. then it's really not so important. It's like carrying a gun" has to be an all-time quote lol
Rob we might have messed up passing up on Bronny. He just had a break out game
To be honest, the first couple videos I watched of yours you did come off as arrogant to me. Though I think I was just caught off guard by how confident you were in what you believed and how direct you were with people when you thought they were wrong. Most people I know skirt around things and are timid. I now really admire these things about you and I have a lot of respect for you. The way you communicate is inspiring to me and I hope to communicate in a similar way. You are a real one 👌and I can't get enough of the vids!
Man Kyle Filipowski looked really good out there tonight. He Could drive, dribble, shoot & dunk. His game looked really fluid. What do you think Rob? Should the Raptors have chosen Filipowski over Mogbo based on what youve seen so far?
Great self awareness Roberto. 80% of the speaker's message is forgotten, but 80% will remember HOW you made them feel. Not to say content is not important; you are by far the best. But you do sometimes come across as angry.
