Reed Sheppard Might Be Even Better Than We Thought…
Reed Sheppard was taken with the #3 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, but with how he’s been playing for the Houston Rockets throughout the 2024 NBA Summer League, it looks like he might’ve had a pretty good case to go #1 overall.
Reed Sheppard played one year at the University of Kentucky, and during that season, he was playing alongside a pretty talented UK roster. As a result, we didn’t get to see his full range of skills on display at all times. But now that he’s been balling in the Summer League, Reed Sheppard looks like a huge steal at #3 for the Houston Rockets.

he should’ve been the #1 pick, so glad my rockets got him, i think he has another level he can reach.
Thank you Alex for your basketball insight with many videos such as these. Just ignore all these guys like the one below the video. They can't do shit since they don't know how to cover the takes that you bring up and the overall analysis we might have miss each video like these. Make more videos man and keep it up for real.
Best pick of the draft. Kid is a stud. Rockets needed a playmaker and they found him.
Reed Sheppard is the __ best player of the draft 👇
I'm not really great at predictions but I felt 100% sure that Reed Shepherd was probably going to be the best player coming out of this year's draft. He was playing for a high-profile team and playing in important games and he was always good in those games. Not necessarily in the tournament but Kentucky just didn't show up very well for the tournament. The guy had an insane 3-point percentage and you can see from the highlights that he took them from all over. Not only that but he was amazing at getting steals and blocks which is just insane for a guy who's probably really 6 foot 2. The only thing that's going to stop him from being the rookie of the Year is the fact that the team he's playing for is full of a lot of guards who are going to get playing time possibly ahead of him. I'm a Spurs fan and I really really wanted them to take Reed Shepherd and with the two picks in the top 10 they could have moved up a spot to do it but they decided that they found their guy in Stephon CastIe. I think Stephon is going to be good but we've seen a lot of guys that play at about his level but we haven't seen a lot of shooters like Reed Shepherd. People want to call him the next Mark Price which is a great compliment but that's just some racial bias cuz he doesn't play the game the way I remember Mark Price playing. If we're going to do white dudes then I would say that he's kind of a mix of Manu Ginobili and Steve Kerr. If he gets enough time on the court this year I think he can really help that Rockets team but they've got too many young guys and they can only keep some of them. Many of them are guards. I think we're going to have to see if Jalen green was as good as that last month of the season or if he's that guy who had the lowest shooting percentage in the league for the entire season before the last month, well maybe it wasn't the worst but sometimes it was.. Even the season before he was dreadful sort of like Scoot Henderson last year.😊
Only took ten picks to get one rockets
Tyus Jones floor
I think you're hedging on Sheppard too much! There's plenty of athleticism in the NCAA so his midrange shooting will almost certainly translate flawlessly. Why is this so important? It's what marks you out as an NBA-level creator and ball handler. Okay you can handle, you can shoot threes, you finish well enough at the rim, but what do you do in the middle? Since his looks are based on pace and technique, he'll get the same looks in the NBA. Plus, logo range and shooting 51% from 3? That is outlier behavior. Looking at him now, we are in a Steph Curry-lite situation, where teams were unwilling to draft him solely because of his size, compounded by his low usage rate making him feel like an unknown quantity. But seriously, look at that release! It's shades of Grayson Allen and Malcolm Brogdan, super tight and consistent at all ranges. Any teams not called the Hawks (who already have an undersized pg) are going to regret having passed on him. And maybe even the Hawks!
He’s nice no doubt will even get better by year 2
His game kind of has similarities with jimmer fraddette hope he doesn't end like that.
This guy is a white version of curry
Next tyler herro
I’ve been impressed how comfortable and how much in control Reed has looked operating getting to his spots in the midrange whether that’s been in the pick and roll and coming off screens. His change of pace has been great as well not just creating quality looks for himself but for his teammates as well.
Coming off the bench shooting 3s for the rockets as instant offense might work out till he works his way to starter in a couple of years
WE??? Nah fam, I knew he was this good
Obligatory kentucky guard comment
Base: spacer, upper: commander.
❤
no thank YOU alex!!!
My favourite player in the draft so far, just so smooth and composed. Great vid as always Alex
Better handles Asutin Reaves? Even wears #15
I said this before he got drafted, but he reminds me of Book coming out of college. Came off the bench on a stacked college team where he was limited to a spot up/off ball role and both of their self-creation abilities were underused. Both 3 level scorers, good athletes, play well with pace. Reed is just smaller, but he’s a better passer and defender
Point guard Kevin Martin
I’m curious, where does that leave FVV? They just paid him and he’s been really good for the young guys in Houston
Steve Nash 2.0
he’s def going to be good for the rockets next season they need a constant player who is a good playmaker and can shoot
Sheppard has it.
Was the top guy on my big board for 90 percent of the season, if Sarr went number 1 Shep woulda totally went number 2, can’t overreact to Summer League but he has been the best rookie so far by a country mile
16 nba teams will regret bad not drafting dalton knecht!!
One thing that impresses me about Sheppard is that he already has a floater. Offensively, he reminds me a lot of Jamal Murray and CJ McCollum.
gives me goran dragic but athletic kind of vibe for sure
Is he a TJ McConnell?
He is a stud
Period
John Stockton reborn.
