MJ would average 50 in today’s game they said lmao, can’t even score on a 5-3 150 lb wet Mugsy without ref bailing him out. Draymond would poke MJ’s eyes out

Really a shame they used this dumb, contrived rule for so long. Watching players figure out how to deal with defenses collapsing on them is how are you ascend from stardom to legend status on that end, LeBron developing a devastating post game, Steph stretching his range to 35 feet, harden deepening his bag so that he can move her to the hoop at the exact moment a defense shows him a crack, KD getting to his spots with a ball fake and one dribble before he gets swarmed, Luca or CP3 keeping defenders in jail by blocking them with their hip, it takes so much skill, vision and timing to deal with modern defenses.
We will never see any of the superstars from this era or any before it have to deal with anything besides the occasional hard double.

A guy who never saw a zone or a help defender is better than LeBron guys

Literally 3 in the key regardless of the era 😂

What exactly is illegal defense? Is it just the same as saying a foul?
No_Hovercraft_2719
The iQ in this comment section is discouraging. Good swipe by Mugsy, but the help side defender was just standing in the paint not guarding anybody. That’s illegal defense today too.

muggsy was a complete animal. imagine rolling up on muggsy in his prime at a court somewhere: “i’ll take this dude, i can atleast keep him off rebounds and probably stop him from scoring.” and then in the first possession you find out he has praying mantis reaction time and cheetah speed out in the open. Mustve been a shock to anyone who played with him and didn’t understand who he was at first sight.

People bitch about defense these days while idolizing the 90’s, but Mike got an extremely favorable whistle.

It’s illegal defense. Has nothing to do with the steal.

I’m still shocked someone 3 inches shorter than me not only made the NBA but was a (relatively) productive player for years

I never actually watched Muggsy play, but thinking about the skill level and athleticism you would need to get NBA minutes at 5’3 is pretty crazy.
I mean yeah it was a different era, but still very impressive he managed to not only compete, but actually excel in the league

You can literally see how hard it was to slash and score back then when someone could touch you compared to now when u just need to get beside someone to have a slashing lane. I will never understand how some people can’t see something like this in front of their face. You hear all this players have evolved now there so much better. No dudes… the rules changed. They changed the rules for a higher scoring faster paced league. Players didn’t evolve the game. The rule changes evolved.

people don’t appreciate how wild it is a 5’3 dude played 14 years in the NBA

Title is a bit misleading. The illegal D was offball on Robert Parish for not being within arms length of another opposing player, not on Muggsy for a reach

Mugsy, at that height , to make the nba is one most impressive things you’ll ever see in sports. He also had an insane vertical.
