Cool Muggsy/Mark Cuban fact I came across

Was just looking over Muggsy's Wiki and came across this at the end:

On August 10, 2001, Bogues was traded to the Dallas Mavericks in a three-team deal involving Shandon Anderson, Howard Eisley and Glen Rice.[30] He told the team that he intended to step away from basketball to care for his mother who was fighting cancer.[46] New Mavericks owner Mark Cuban decided to waive Bogues and fully guarantee the remaining three years on his contract;[47] had he retired before being waived, he would not have been owed any money.[48][49]

Either Cuban was familiar with Muggsy and respected him, or he felt for his situation and did him a solid, or both, but I found that cool

Edit: Here is the source article with Muggsy's statements!

“I’ve never met Mr. Mark Cuban, but I tell people that I thank him more than life itself,” Bogues, 46, said recently over the phone from his home in Charlotte. “I had three years left on my contract when my mom passed away, and I decided it was time to move on [from basketball]. I walked away from the game with three years left on my contract. He (Cuban) could have easily just have bought me out of my contract, but he went on and honored it and paid the three years out and never looked back.”

Bogues—bereaved over his mother’s passing—never suited up in a single game for the Mavericks. Still, Cuban agreed to pay the 5-3 guard the complete balance of his contract. That amount came out to $3, 617, 400 over the course of the three years years remaining.
