If you’re on Twitter he’s a great follow for data like this.

Very encouraging sign that Dyson has already surpassed All-Defensive team DJ in this metric at a younger age while still ascending. For reference DJs all defensive second team was in the 2017-2018 season as a 21 year old. He missed his age 22 season in 2018-2019 so I’m assuming that’s why it flattens out that season before the heavy decline started. With more minutes and opportunities for him next season Dyson has a real chance to break out on both sides of the ball.

Snagging a potential defensive culture setter who’s going to be 21 for the majority of next season on a rookie contract was so huge for us. He’ll probably be pretty reliant on Trae on offense but that’s fine. Thankfully he isn’t a total zero on that end since he can cut, handle, pass and has a pretty good in between game with his floaters. Most importantly he’s still young. It’s not like he’s a flawed player in or past his prime. He’s still very early in his development and should only be getting better with a real role and an organization that’s going to invest in him. As long as the coaching staff can instill some confidence in him I have zero worries about him being hindrance to a Trae Young led offense. At worst I doubt he’d drag us down as much as Murray (on both sides of the ball with Trae) and Capela (on offense in general) did last season.

It’s shocking how often Dyson gets 3 or more steals in less than 25 minutes. His hands are arms are so long and ridiculously instinctive. Would be a smart bet to put $500 on Dyson Daniels to lead the NBA in steals next year

Another Casual That Don’t Watch Hoops Or Really Know What’s Going On With His FAVORITE TEAM!!

Good post, and good job giving credit.

Trae-Dyson-Zac-JJ-OO would arguably be the best offensive lineup Daniels will have been a part of, which should help on that side of the ball. If the shooting he’s showing for Australia is real, though, I’m going to be so insufferable lol

I still think DJM can be a plus defender, but he’s very much a ball hawk that relies on strong surrounding perimeter defenders and help defense to allow him to freelance. He’s pretty average as a POA defender. Using an NFL analogy he’s like Trevon Diggs.

In that sense he’s arguably a ‘win more’ defender, and a team like Atlanta was arguably the WORST type of fit for him. I’m surprised that a team like Orlando didn’t go for him – they already have great defense across the roster, and needed ball handling/shot creation, and he would have thrived on both ends.

Dyson is a better defensive fit because he’s just long and rangy and can stop guys plain and simple. The offense and shooting is where I have concern.

Dyson’s defense is so impressive, it’s like he’s playing on a different difficulty level!

Actually think this understates Dyson vs young DJM. Young DJ was awesome but was never actually as disciplined at POA as Dyson. Dyson is basically the backup to Herb though, so the plus/minus bit gets wonky, and DJ’s monster rebounding numbers boost him in the box score part of this calculation more than I think it actually contributes to great D from a guard. Again, DJ was awesome that one season, but eye test tells me Dyson is just better on the ball, staying in front of his man.

I mean I’m fine with this graphic i don’t think many will argue that DJM is an average defender. But from the other side he can give you 30 consistently and Dyson hasn’t proven he can …yet .

Personally think that Dysons fit next to Trae is much better if he can knock down that 3 ball bc he can handle and create some. Maybe we trade back for K von idk just a possibility
