A lot of criticism about Embiid is fair, but he is an American if he considers himself one. I know this is the French saying this, not Americans, but he shouldn’t be mafe to feel like he’s not a member of the country he lives in.

This was lost in translation but the fan was jokingly teasing Embiid, nothing mean spirited here.
To be honest, I dont think people were particularly huped to have Embid on the national team, especially since we have Wemby. Joel is the one who brought it up. Contrarily to other european nations, we do not naturalize players for the national team very often whereas any other team has an american with them who barely knows the country.
To be fair, this wouldn’t be a problem if he never wrote the letter to Macron.

This is just snake behaviour. Making a promise and then betraying their good will is clearly not cool. I can feel the frustration of the French. If he never wrote it, then this isn’t big deal.

I read lot of crazy thing on r/nba, so as a French who likes Embiid as a player, let me try to sum up the local opinions about this .
– Only people who care about basketball even know who Joel Embiid.
– Among basketball fans, most people don’t care or just thinks that Embiid’s behaviour was unserious but whatever. It definitely helps, that our best players, Gobert and Wemby play the same position as him.
– A minority are actually salty, some on the principle, some because interior presence was a weakness of USA recently
