Mavericks News On Dante Exum Injury + Latest On Melvin Ajinca, Markieff Morris & AJ Lawson

Dante Exum injury concerns have risen ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris as Exum suffered a dislocated finger. This Mavericks injury update shouldn’t be too concerning, as Exum is expected to return to group play action in the Olympics. Exum only played in 55 games last season, which is partly why the Mavs signed Spencer Dinwiddie in 2024 NBA Free Agency. Will Exum play a major role on the Mavs’ roster this season? Melvin Ajinca won’t, as he signed a one-year deal in France for the 2024-25 season. The Mavs took Ajinca with the 51st overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, but he will not be a part of Jason Kidd’s rotation this season. Markieff Morris is expected to re-sign with the Mavs in 2024 NBA Free Agency according to reports, meaning the Mavs will cut AJ Lawson.

The expectation is that Exum will miss time with the injury — he’s doubtful for Australia’s Olympic opener vs Spain — sources said, but the Boomers’ medical staff was comfortable with him remaining on the team with an eye toward an eventual return at some point in the group phase of the tournament. The Dallas Mavericks gave the final go-ahead on Tuesday morning for Exum to continue playing on in the Olympics, sources said.
