@Houston Rockets

My fellow rockets fans….how would yall feel about this ?

me personally , i’d like for the team to allow the core to grow and develop instead of trying to add one star or superstar player

Id rather Daishen Nix be our starting Point guard for the next 5 years than give up Bari for Randle….

Bari is about to be better next szn

If the rockets were truly in win now mode, a 1:1 trade of Jabari for Randle could make sense.

But the Rockets aren’t contenders. The best players are still on rookie contracts. This makes absolutely no sense. The timeline to contention is probably around 3-4 years, when the rookies begin to hit their peaks.

I don’t understand how anyone would think he’s above the already proven and potential talent of jabari, Eason, or Whitmore

  5. kevtheproblem

NOPE. Him and Sengun together would be like water and oil.

I like Juice but that’s a bad trade

Randle is good, better than people give him credit for. This is the general *type* of acquisition that needs to happen to reach the next level.

But I highly doubt he is the guy that brings us to contention on his own. So you have to think a bit beyond the pure basketball swap.

Randle is on a 1-year deal with a player option. Considering he has been an All-Star each of the last two years and is 29, it’s something like 100% certain that he will decline the team-friendly option and look to get an enormous, long-term deal.

If he gets that from someone who isn’t the Rockets, then you traded Jabari for a rental. Bad.

If he gets that from the Rockets, then you have to re-sign him using Bird rights, meaning that his $48 million cap hold must stay on the books, meaning that the Rockets gave up Jabari but *also* gave up the ability to offer serious money to a free agent.

The entire chain of clever contracts that the Rockets have set up to culminate in a big 2025 summer would be gone purely to make this trade happen and I don’t think Randle is enough of a long-term improvement over Jabari that it makes sense. Not sure it would make sense even without the draft pick, honestly.

*Edit: honestly, there’s a world where we could just sign Randle outright next summer if New York doesn’t want to max him, giving up none of this.*

If we got Randle he would break his leg on the first game he played with us . Besides that this is such a stupid and dumb trade that it’s obviously New York Media trying to throw diarrhea at the wall and hoping it would stick . First they acted like we would trade them Sengun and now Bari? Lmao I’ll give you jock landale,Jeff green, aaron holiday, tate and 2 seconds for Randle

I wouldn’t even trade Jabari straight up for Randle

Makes me wonder what people’s definition of “win now” means.

When I hear “win now”, I think that we’re past trying to be competitive, have consistently made the playoffs, and are willing to make major moves to get to the NBA Finals (because we’re no longer developing players and know what we have/don’t have).

At present, we shouldn’t be in “win now” mode. We’re done tanking, yes. But there’s something else that happens before you go to “win now” mode, and we haven’t reached that yet.

Bruh I wouldn’t want Randle even if we got him for nothing but salary filler. He’s a good player but a terrible fit with our roster and too old to fit our timeline.

  12. PapaLRodz

Randle wasn’t worth that in his prime much less now. Laughable.

Bari is healthier. Last thing I want us to do is trade for a player who just missed 30+ regular season games because of injuries.

Additionally I don’t think he upgrades us where we need the most help: 3 point shooting. He’s improved over his career but still streaky (~30%). Bari shot 35% last season.

  15. Unless we’re also trading Sengun for some theoretical All-Star stretch 5, this is no good. Randle and Sengun are a really terrible fit

Rule suggestion: Anyone who unironically post bleacher report trade suggestions should a 3-month ban from this sub

None of the Core 7 at the moment are worth Randle IMO. He’s good but factoring, age, financials, potential, fit, etc.

  18. altofummuhh

Just Jock and the Picks. I know Randle is definitely a good player but his team had their best season in years without him. He’s not a transformational kinda guy

  19. pyrotech_support

Jabari Smith with 6 years of team control obviously has more trade value than expiring UFA Julius Randle lol

  20. NoirSon

If Randle is the centerpiece of a “win now” push by our organization’s leadership we are in trouble.

  21. crunchwrap_eatr

My forecast is Jabari will be more efficient throughout his career so I don’t think this is a good idea at all. I also don’t feel like Julius is a Ime type of guy

  22. j1h15233

Garbage trade. We also don’t need to be in win now mode. We’re at least a year away from truly contending

  23. AngryLurkerDude

I saw the YouTuber video on it and started laughing.

In what world is a washed All star that can’t perform in the playoffs and needs the ball to produce while being very injury prone worth jabari Smith Jr?
