Abduction is a fucking awesome name for this stat and I will be using it from now on
Copyright this
Actually a godly name for a stat and it works so well with Wemby’s alien gimmick.
Can’t wait for an announcer to say “THE BALL ABDUCTED BY THE ALIEN” or something to that effect.
Wonder how many wilt/russel had
Not only is the name really cool, I would assume these plays are very good because they can lead to quick transition.
Serious Q: did you steal this idea from someone or is it original OP
Should be called a yoink
Ok at first I was like is this gonna be overwrought and kind of dumb but no, this is just awesome. Gonna have to get commentators shouting “ABDUCTED” for those blocks.
Snaggy
This is a sick post. Extremely rare in r/nba
i hope this term catches on
Wemby is easily the scariest defensive prospect I’ve ever seen. I don’t think I’ve fully wrapped my head around what he’s going to be capable of on that end of the floor, after another few years with Popovich, as well as with a bit more muscle on his frame. It’s just so easy for him already
Why is 26:20 not an abduction based on the criteria? It’s in the air too long?
I thought you meant like a snatch block where they rip it from the air but I didn’t see any in the first few highlights
Awesomeeee
Love it
I’ve always heard these called snatch-blocks but abduction is better.
Wait til Giddey gets an abduction
Is it not called a “snatch block”?
Theo Ratliff on the Sixers was my favorite at Abductionist.
Love it lol
This is brilliant. I like the word abduction for Wemby, good idea
I was here when Abductions/60 became an NBA stat
The most demoralizing play against the offensive player lol
ayys in shambles
ABDUCTED BY WEMBANYAMA
Oh we’re coming back here when this becomes it
Spurs commentators have been calling them Dad blocks. Abductions is fucking sick though.
Thought it was just called a grab block
This made me remember the good days of Whiteside and how exciting where those blocks pushing the ball to his own chest to gain the control of it
This is going to be all over ESPN

Thought timestamping the video might make it easier for some people. OP feel free to steal it for the description.
Love this. I also think someone should count blocks that result in any change of possession and ones that don’t. I don’t know the stats but I would assume that most blocks probably end up back in the hands of the offense, which is still a positive play but less valuable than a straight up steal.
These are snatch blocks.
The Timberwolves announcers use the term “Nevermind” for when someone sees Gobert on defense and they back out or pass. I bet Wemby has some Neverminds as well.
I like it, here first for when this becomes a real stat
Bro needs to be on the FBIs most wanted list ASAP with these abduction numbers
