Just read this very interesting article that dives into Achiuwa's role and how its changed between last season and this season. He's gone from a 3rd string center behind one of the better center rotations in the league to now being a backup to an injury-prone starter.
The Precious signing is very interesting. He's the better offensive option while Mitch is miles better defensively. The Knicks can use Precious as their clutch time center (or they could try lineups with Julius at the 5).
Additionally, the fact that they got him to waive this deal indicates that they're trying to keep their options open, and will have no issues moving him at the deadline if this partnership doesn't work out. Teams will not have to worry about his salary as he's a free-agent again next season. That's also insightful because it suggests that the Knicks don't see him in their long term plans as off now or they would have signed him to a multi-year cheap deal that is then easily tradeable in the future.

I hope he’s working out and trying to improve that 3 pt shot because he’s really limited offensively. In late games where he needs a successful offensive possession, Thibs is probably going with Randle at the 5.
I’m honestly a bit surprised that the FO didn’t decide to give him a bigger contract, in order to make it easier to match salaries for another C. Makes me think maybe the backup C spot isn’t as big of a priority as the fanbase seems to think, and that they are planning on playing some smaller lineups regularly. It also could explain why the organization was putting feelers out on Mitch, in the event that iHart returned.
I’m just really hoping Precious is able to improve his shooting. If he could become even a semi-consistent threat from 3, it would open up a lot offensively. His ability to switch onto bigs and also defend the perimeter, also gives us a very versatile defensive team when paired with OG and Mikal. But we can’t be playing 4 on 5 offensively, or it kills any advantage.
the fact that his name make me feel optimistic as opposed to feeling like hes a random dude is a good sign. he is an ironman ready to play 48 minutes if need be. as someone who had to fill in for injuries, i couldnt have asked for more from him.
His short range shots at 6-8′, converting layups was better than advertised. If he can improve his FTs and 16′ perimeter shot then that would be a game changer.
Perfect isn’t the enemy of good (and vice versa).
