i think this looks worse in slow motion than realtime
in slomo it looks like he leads with the elbow, rather than the elbow being a part of his rotation
raymond_w
Team France awarded two technical FTs in their next game for this foul.

I know everyone in here is saying it’s weak, but I think the slow motion is making it look far less impactful.
I was arms straight up when someone was driving and took an elbow to the side ribs – fucker was bruised for like a month and it hurt to raise my arms above my head.
Rib cage is a sensitive area to take a bony elbow.

Offensive foul, check ball. Can’t believe this was called flagrant lmao. FiBa RuLeS though!
KarrotMovies
Offensive foul was called, the refs went to review it and gave him an unsportsmanlike foul. I don’t really get this rule
>37.1. 1 An unsportsmanlike foul is a player contact which, in the judgement of a referee is: Contact with an opponent and not legitimately attempting to directly play the ball within the spirit and intent of the rules
What did he do here that is ‘not legitimately attempting to directly play the ball within the spirit and intent of the rules’?
He went for a turnaround midrange shot. I can understand calling this an offensive foul, but that’s a bad call
nbaistheworst
Terrible call.
SportsLaughs
That’s all I need to see. No. 5 is NBA ready.

But hitting someone from behind during a screen is alright lol poor Derrick White
Extinto_e
Only bad thing in this tournament are the weak ass refs
Uebelkraehe
I would like to see the nephews on this thread after someone shoved his elbow at full speed into their ribs like this…
Schristie007
That seems like a crazy call
ChickenLiverNuts
the flagrants on Joel and AD have been basically nothing. tougher refs my ass
Saucy_Totchie
People thought the NBA was too soft for FIBA rules lol.
DempseyRollin
Shouldn’t have been called a flagrant, but that was absolutely not a flop & a legit offensive foul. Ask any boxer about taking a shot to the liver – worst/most painful place to be hit and that elbow had juice on it
Goat_Status_5000
Good call, imo. He elbowed the guy right in the gut. Not a basketball move. Hate me if you want, but Im right.
Eespinoza10
Penalty for agentina next game and 10 FTs for france next game
squadracorse15
There was some hefty contact and I definitely think that’s an offensive foul, but a flagrant? That’s pretty soft IMO.
VenusIsRosy
I’m noticing a trend in both men’s and women’s basketball, where everyone starts off praising how much better FIBA/Olympic officiating is compared to NBA/WNBA officiating, but before long, we’re back to complaining about calls like nothing changed at all.
cwtotaro
International game is different

Idk what you expect to happen when you’re surrendering 70 lbs allowing the entry and Davis to turn into the paint
AcanthocephalaGreen5
I’d call that an offensive foul every time, for sure.
Flagrant? Ehh, I’m not as convinced there. *Maybe* a Flagrant 1 if that was intentional, but Draymond’s done worse and not gotten the boot.
lambopanda
This is weaker than Rui tech yesterday
FlopDong420
No wonder Luka complains so much

Jokic should be ejected every game if this is a flagrant
aussie_pacer
Sabonis taught AD this move last season
erog84
Refs gave every iffy call to Sudan just to keep that sliver of upset alive.
Moist_Walrus5413
“Flagrant foul, too strong”-the refs
kihraxz_king
Offensive foul? Sure. He created contact that gave him an advantage.
Flagrant?
In what world?
Finally a FIBA ref being as bad as an NBA ref.
Whatever801
I feel like that was a normal NBA move but a none NBA guy can’t hang banging in the post with AD
CarmelasClutchAndOne
A league that’s too soft for Anthony Davis. Never thought I’d see the day
Beginning_Acadia5464
He just way too big for him? Not out here, not even a foul called on the playgrounds of the chi
beastwork
So this is a flagrant but buddy from Serbia cross body checked KD and it was just a common foul. FIBA isn’t tougher, it’s just inconsistent officiating
