I think people need to be more realistic with what he can contribute. Couple minutes defending and shooting threes ( 10 – 15 minutes at most).
He needs minutes, opportunities,shots and room to fail so NO, it won’t happen here. Same with Hardy. They both leave in a trade (with Kleber) for a solid rotation piece
Omax will need 1 more year of development before he’s ready.. this teams projection is far ahead of where “Omax” is now. Limited minutes at most..
1st O-Max is 6'8 in shoes, not 6'9-6'10… Also O-Max shot 42.5% from 3 on over 5 3PA in 27 G-League games last season. Thats a pretty good sample size. Specially compared to the 5 Summer League games. So I would say his 3P shot has at least potental. But overall he may need one more year of reps with the team before really taking over a rotation spot (probably Maxi's). So I do not really see a problem here. If he isnt part of the rotation in 2025/26, then his time runs out!
I agree he was an efficient shooter in the G and shot better behind rhe arc than expected. He also had a positive assist/to ratio, something he didnt have in college and was concern. So why we are putting more weight in a truncated summer league where the games are shorter and the fouling runs amuck I dont know. Anyone remember what DFS did un the SL? Next to norhing. He also was pedestrian in the G league. I think Omax will help us this year when given the chance and will carve out consistent minutes not dissimilar to JG. Jmho.
I'm sorry but these kind of takes are lousy. If Mavs want to build a deeper rotation or possible trade assets, they gotta play Omax and Hardy. And they are more than ready to contribute off the bench. People crying over his Summer league when he played better alongside hardy because he was playing his role. He shown potential in NBA minutes shooting 3s, driving to the rim and defending. You guys just postponing the inevitable.
