The measure of a good deal is whether other teams would still trade assets for a guy on the new contract, and I think the answer is still yes for Lauri.
Great deal for Lauri. Hopefully Danny can put a respectable team around him in the near future.
Damn that’s Bradley Beal money
damn, thats a lot of money.
I’m like genuinely really happy about this I really wanted him to stay in Utah
This the maximum he could get or did they get him at a slight discount?
This is not hate towards Markkanen because he’s a very good player, but if the Jazz rebuild doesn’t get them anywhere by the end of this contract, people will be treating this contract like Beal’s or Lavine’s.
They had no choice
I feel like this is the right decision. I never thought it made much sense for Utah to trade him – how likely are they to get a good young player like him if they don’t keep him. Maybe he’ll be traded later in his deal, but they should be building with him as a core piece. Hopefully they can add some more talent soon.
He’s a 7 foot sniper who moves off ball and he provides some rim protection. It’s a good deal for both sides..
Warriors might be cooked but if they had to pay him that kind of money then idk if it would even be worth it. Dude is good but he’s not proven enough to get paid like that on a playoff team
This seems like a reasonable deal, honestly. Lauri is a really good player.
Fun fact “Markkanen” actually means “*god damn that’s a lot of money*” in Finnish
I don’t even know what’s a bad contract at this point.
Whether Jazz actually builds a competent team around or not its a win for him lmao
Good, I swear it was every single day since last October that someone on the thunder sub would post about trading for him
So the season is going to be Lauri and the kids in the race for a top5 lottery pick?
Does this mean he can’t be traded?
Yeesh Jake Fischer is such a mouth piece lol. Dude definitely has sources with agents and maybe within some teams but it’s clear they all use him to put out bad info. Doesn’t happen everytime but often enough to where it’s obvious.
I have no horse in this race, but I’ve been very impressed with Lauri since his Bulls run. He is one of those rare cases where he’s everything he said he was.
So, unlike some posters, I think this is mostly a win for both parties.
That actually seems like a good deal. Worse players are making 50 million annually now
Finally the Markannen speculation is finished.
How do Jazz fans feel about this signing?
So Sexton and Clarkson are getting traded in season.
I’m pissed Philly didn’t try to get him, Even with his extension, he’s still making way less than PG 🤦🏿♂️😩
Bro has the best job in the league. Franchise player with no expectations or pressure to win whatsoever.
Wow, well he doesn’t have to worry about money ever again.
People claiming it’s a bad contract don’t know what they’re talking about.
The 24m bump makes his contract this year 42m (about 30% of the cap) which is good for a 7 foot Klay Thompson on offense that’s also a great finisher.
Assuming the rest of his contract goes up 8% each year, it will begin from 43.5m (28% of the cap) and only become a lower percentage of the cap as it goes up 10% each year after the TV deal.
What does 220 new money mean?
Lauri 🤝the bag
>a five-year, $238 million contract
For a 27 yo dude who’s never played in the playoffs is a bold move.
Tank commanders are getting *expensive*
Kid just doesn’t want to win
How much in old money?
Kinda weird that they’ve stipulate that 18 million is in old money. I wonder if they mean like really old, like coins from the 1800s, or if it’s something boring like 5 year old 20 dollar bills
