  1. Contracts make players underrated or overrated. Lauri is not worth 200 plus million. Lauri has the new Bradley Beal type career. Gonna make 400 million and will never play meaningful basketball.

  2. Love lauri and happy he got the money – he’s a serious player. BUT crazy how every B+ player is maxing out now. Franz is a better example of course. Interested to see how cap implications will impact teams that give second or third players on a championship team the max

  3. That they're idiots? We're starting to see the kind of over-pays that will cripple teams for a decade. The new CBA & salary cap will make it impossible to have 2 max players and keep a team around them. People will realize that Jalen Brunson's approach is the only way NBA teams can be built…the star takes less than he could so other players get paid and stay. Eventually the 40% max will eventually drop to around 25% of the cap but until then, only the 'charitable star' model will really work for team-building and continuity, or teams will have to start pissing off players with the 'no max for you' reality to lesser stars, like Markannen.

  4. As a Jazz fan, I love you comparing Lauri to SGA. The unrealistic fan in me hopes he will be on a similar trajectory. His contract is 30% of the cap initially and decreases to 26% by the end of the deal. So while the money does increase it does allow some flexibility moving forward as the cap increases…I guess. I wish the money descended also.

  5. I think he is a good fit for Utah being from Finland, but I think they should be tanking for a chance at a top pick in a deep draft…

  6. When they made that move with SGA, he wasn't an MVP level player, he was at about the same level as Markkanen is at.

  7. Respectfully this is nothing like SGA at all. SGA is 26 right now. When he was taking those just sit down and chill deals from OKC he was in his early twenties. Utah probably just wanted a Gobert level haul for a trade and when they didn't get it they paid him. Lauri is a good player but he's more all star good than 1st team All-NBA good.

  8. George, Sexton, Markkanen, Kessler is a decent young quartet. If they win the sweepstakes next draft, that's something to get excited for, I think

  9. The problem is Lauri is not going to be better. He's the type of player that has reached his ceiling. He is not going to have an SGA leap to top 5 player. So this is a bad comparison. Lauri is at best a Chet level guy, not an SGA type guy
