Improve their lateral quickness, improve their defensive IQ, and also a longer wingspan wouldn’t hurt.

Honestly rui has no excuse . The man has the athleticism, he just has poor bbiq. Dlo can prob try to look at how harden defends to get an idea of how to defend as a slow guard. Reaves is imo the only guy that really tries but is limited due to his athleticism. Going in the right place is all you can ask of him tbh. In the end, lakers still need a fucking two way guard

They probably can’t. Maybe AR can get physically stronger? Rui needs to learn how to rebound better but a lot of that is instinctual.

Insert Vando into the starting lineup. Jettison D’Lo & Rui for a legit 3&D wing on a cost controlled contract and a starting serviceable big. Then we talking!

Too late to ask 2 of these guys they are what they are.

Reaves did improve defensively this past year. He was contesting shots and looking more athletic toward the end of the year. I think his legs were a bit shot at the beginning of last year from playing so much basketball over the summer, and I’m hoping he comes looking in fresh this season.
Rui needs to work on contesting without fouling.
D’Lo needs to work on improving effort and being more scrappy. He just doesn’t have that bulldog mindset on defense.

Austin follows schemes perfectly. Rui gets beat on screens constantly. When Dlos shot isn’t falling, he completely disengages.

Hire a defense specialist/coach. Like Ron Artest

D’Lo: no idea. AR15: Stop gambling so much. Rui: Slide his feet more. Move around. His feet get stuck in cement on defense.

Be reincarnated into new bigger, and more athletic bodies.
Their Defensive IQ could improve a bit too, but ultimately a large part of being able to be a good defender is just based on your athleticism and size which they lack

Dlo needs to magically become more athletic, ar needs to work on his stamina and rui needs better ball iq and the ability to read plays faster

>How can these 3 improve defensively
You trade them

By letting fans train them. These fans seem to know everything.

DLo and AR as your starting backcourt is the most unserious of business. They’ll never be good enough to offset their lack of defense.

DLo played solid defense with the Wolves.

Honest answer
D’lo: He probably won’t get any better defensively. He’s 9 years into his NBA career and I doubt we will any major leap of improvement going forward. He simply lack size and consistency.
AR: His progression throughout the years shown that he can definitely make the leap to improve defensively. This up coming season will be the real test to see if his progression is static or not.
Rui: Really needs to pick up on the rebounding duty. JJ said at the press conference that he wants to challenge Rui to rebound more. Rui has all the tools to be a “Great” defender and his body and size is a major plus. I hope to see his development over the summer.
