I’m surprised this was allowed in the first place, how would it not be a massive conflict of interest? With how seriously they are taking players betting idk how this wasn’t addressed before now

Lol. I thought this was always the case but I am glad it is now.

    >I’m surprised this was allowed in the first place, how would it not be a massive conflict of interest?

I thought it was banned too. Didn’t Bill Simmons make roughly seventeen million references to how he’s not allowed to bet on awards because he’s a voter over the course of his many podcasts?

  3. Actually insane that they haven’t thought of doing this until now.

Bill Simmons gives betting advice on awards and is a NBA award voter.

Totally waterproof rule with zero ways to get around it.

That one dude who gives Sabonis an MVP vote every season, no matter what, makes so much sense now lmao

He’s also probably throwing his wiped devices into a lake as we speak

Feels like this should have always been the case

Any credentialed NBA media member should not be able to bet on the NBA in any capacity, full stop

Any other rule is patent insanity

Looking forward to the next announcement:

NEW: NBA officials are now officially prohibited from making wagers on games they officiate. This is in stark contrast to previous league standards.

They weren’t already?! Oversight. Jontay Porter must have made them reexamine that which they thought they had examined.

I wonder if the ones who have NBA pods & ads for gambling will still be allowed?

Fun fact, you can bet on Academy Awards (there is usually a limit) and most industry people are aware of who is going to win well ahead of time.

I had a guy whose sister was a costume designer and he would always bitch about how he could only bet $50 max on academy award winners.

Honestly surprised it wasn’t a thing for voters til now. Worked for an NBA team and a company affiliated with an NBA team and they both made us sign an anti-gambling contract

The NBA being more ethical than the supreme court.

Good Lord. How the fuck is this “NEW”???

  16. Jeanlucpfrog

Oh, they just got around to doing this? Explains a lot really

Wait they weren’t already? Holy shit

  18. sportsfurher

If they’re making it a rule now that means someone was doing it

  19. OverlyExpressiveLime

This feels very specific. What happened?

  20. Papaaya

how was this not a rule already? Prohibit anyone who works at ESPN too

Sports betting and over advertising is killing the NBA.

That asshat Clarence Thomas surely disagrees with this.

  23. fromdaperimeter

wtf? No way they allowed this! Jason Tatum was MVP and AD was DPOTY!

Awards didn’t really matter in the past. It was just bragging rights.

But now awards affect what kind of contract a player can get under the CBA. It’s suddenly a big deal that affects players and teams alike.

  25. I wonder how many glazing articles/videos are related to this?

“Here’s why 40 year old Lebron James should be MVP.. Aside from the fact I bet on him with +2500 odds”

  26. WanderingBread

No more Embiid upsets over Jokic then?
