…. And two NCAA championships and an Olympic Gold medal in the 15 months prior to joining the Celtics

I’m a firm believer Jordan is the GOAT. However, and this is a big however. If Bill played in todays game he would have people crying. He would be like Giannis and Gobert on steroids, seriously, everyone should go watch his highlights on youtube. His anticipation to block shots is by far the best I have ever seen. He would regularly block three or four shots, rebound, and sprint up the court lightning fast and jump from the free throw line just to lay the ball up like it was nothing. One of the greatest athletes, humans, and sports players ever. Period.

He’d be a beast with modern sports technology. He was already a freak athlete without it. This is why disrespecting past eras of sports makes no sense to me.

Yes, it’s like Bill Russell is some kind of special case. Rings mean everything to the other greats but not Russell who has more by far. The same is true for MVPs. The same is true for being the dominating player on your team for over a decade. He scores highest in all these things but add them up and you get the 5-10th best NBA great and not the greatest.

It is criminally offensive. It pains me to think that all these folk hollering GOAT this and GOAT that, will quickly bring up rings, MVPs, two way players, athletic freaks, basketball intelligence, making those around you better, blah, blah, blah. But whenever Mr. Russell, RIP, is brought into the conversation it’s always the league was watered down, the Celtics had all the great players, Mr. Russell had maybe one or two equals at the time and many thought his main rival was better. All I know is 11 rings, a Gold medal, two NCAA championships, 5 MVPs, 12 time All Star, 3-1st team All NBA, 8-2nd team All NBA, 4 time rebounding champ, NBA all defensive 1st team in ‘69, and 2 time champion as a coach sounds pretty GOATish to me.🤷

I think it’s hard to compare eras, particularly when baseball was in its infancy with 8 teams.
But you have to include him in a top 5 or you are out of your mind.
What really drives me bananas is people that put Wilt ahead of Russel. That’s *insane*. Literally every player and reporter of the era put Russel ahead and the results speak for themselves.
Wilt was just a stat padder and people can’t contextualize that for some reason,

I know, I don’t get it either. All they care about are statistics. I have seen him play, and he is definitely the GOAT of the NBA.

I fucking hate that for some reason lately people decided that winning isnt important, is the fucking goal of the Game, Statpad shouldnt matter if you don’t get the rings… the most clear example of that is Dan Marino, for 20 years he held every record in NFL, nobody saw it over Joe Montana… why? because Joe Montana had 4 rings

Still agree that Jordan is the GOAT. Russel is one of the all time greats … but MJ is the GOAT.
