Right now we have 30 teams split between 2 conferences, each with 3 divisions. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
Minnesota shares the conference with the Thunder, Blazers, Jazz, and Nuggets. As a result, Minnesota travels more than any team in the NBA. In fact, 5 OTHER teams, from OTHER conferences — are CLOSER. Seriously, look at this map of all the NBA teams.
With a little tweak here and there, and a few bold expansions… this whole thing could make way more sense.
- 3 Conferences
- 12 teams in each conference
- 4 teams in each division
Benefits:
- No more East versus West
- Tighter divisional races
- More playoff games
- More teams / revenue for the league
- A much-needed dilution of talent
- Shorter travel for divisional teams
- The West would (temporarily) be weakened
How would that look? Well, looks let at some potential markets that need teams, and go from there. Maybe…
- Seattle resurrects the Sonics
- Las Vegas gets an expansion team (The Honey Badgers)
- Albuquerque gets an expansion team (The Fission)
- Kansas City gets an expansion team (The Kansa)
- Billings Montana gets an expansion team (The Huckleberries)
- South Dakota gets an expansion team (The Big Sioux)
BOOM!
NOW look at that map of teams. Suddenly everything just makes way more sense!

I’m cool with it if South Dakota get an NBA team lol
Billings, Albuquerque, and South Dakota would never get teams over Virginia Beach, Louisville, and Vancouver. They would also likely be behind Montreal and St. Louis.
Reid Naz. Done. Totally realigned everything.
Mexico City is #4 on the list.
I wonder if a sporting team has ever tried to use the sioux name before
North v South
Bring the Civil War back (minus the issues and killing and stuff)
When supersonic speed travel happens the NBA will have teams in Paris, Barcelona,Berlin etc. it will be fun. I hope I’m still alive then .
This is officially the dumbest post that I’ve seen on this subreddit.

I’m just laughing imagining a league that is 70% black putting a team in South Dakota, no offense lmao
