"The Raptors will retire Vince Carter’s No. 15 when they host Sacramento on Nov. 2, sources tell TSN.

Nearly 26 years after scoring the first ever basket at Scotiabank Arena, VC will be the first player in the franchise’s 30-year history to have his jersey go into the rafters."

Raptors fans who still feel some way about the split are fine to feel that way, but this was very obviously the direction they were heading when the City Edition jersey is literally the Raptor doing Vince’s dunk.

  2. NeatTry7674

Hilarious these franchises are getting bullied into retiring jerseys of players who behaved like assholes while high tailing it out of town

  3. gridironk

Congratulations Vince on getting your number retired by 2 franchises.

I’m torn. I completely understand his impact to Canada basketball but also hate the way he left the team. I’d still prefer we didn’t do this.

Also I don’t know enough about other number retirements around the league. Has there ever been a player’s number retired who had so little playoff success with that team?

Going to get tickets to this game to boo him one more time

I think if the coach handled the McGrady situation better then McGrady wouldn’t have wanted out. If McGrady stays, I think Carter stays as well. That team would have been insane once McGrady hit his peak.

Retiring Carter’s number despite how he left, I think is a bit of admission of guilt on the Raps part for not handling McGrady/Carter well.

I’m ngl if he gets booed it would lowkey be hilarious fuck Vince

  8. lonny__breaux

Absolutely pathetic by us. Lowry should be the first jersey retired.

    Genuinely a disgrace.

  9. cs-shitposter

They’re gonna have to run every ACC attendee on the polygraph to see if they’ll boo before letting them in that night

  10. violatedbear

Weak move. He’s never once apologized for his behaviour and how far he set us back. Such a shame to do this.

  11. Durandau

Doesn’t deserve it after the stunt he pulled

    fuck you Vince

  12. WhatShouldTheHeartDo

This is purely a marketing move for the 30th anniversary, no real Raptors fan wanted that jersey retired.

    VC still my guy tho.

  13. Ronshol

Lowry shouldve been first this is embarassing ngl

  14. Winter_Purpose8695

Big L by MLSE, the guy forced himself out of the Raps in a hall of fame bitch ass kind of way. Everyone probably moved on except the fans

  15. Yuzuriha

Sad day that we celebrate a player that completely gave up on us. Who do we retire next Alonzo Morning?

  16. gigglios

Terrible jersey retirement. Doesnt deserve it at all

  17. Brooklyn917

How common is it to have your jersey retired by 2 different franchises in the same season?

This is so shady by The Raptors because Brooklyn announced this since May 15

  18. Cringelord_420_69

Retiring Vince’s number before Lowry’s should be a criminal offence

  19. HatefulDan

Hell hath frozen over. But also–I mean. Why? Feels participation trophy’esque

And yes I’m fully aware of his Toronto era. I watched it.

  20. Mossles

Such a fucking joke. Dude literally quit on us, refused to dunk. Tanked his trade value. Didn’t win a playoff series. Was good for like what 3 years? Like what are we even doing here.

  21. The-Pharcyde

I already accepted it was gonna happen but I much would’ve preferred lowry to be the first. Seems like the raptors were pressured into doing Vince first after the nets announced theirs a while back and this being the franchise’s 30th anniversary.

  22. Iseeyoulookin

Idk how I feel about this, conflicted af. He quit on the team then gaslit the fanbase for rightfully being mad but at the same time he put Canadian basketball on the map.

  23. New_Essay_4869

If you check is his 2004-2005 stats between the Nets and the Raptors, there is an astronomical difference between the 2

  24. Ice_Cream_Warrior

Bruh. Raps don’t have to retire his jersey just because other teams have. He left ages ago and under shit terms. This is such a pointless gesture. Should be Lowry first.

  25. Pipes_of_Pan

Ow that is embarrassing. Dude was a legit villain!

  26. Tuff_Juice

Obvious 30th anniversary marketing ploy by MLSE. It’s a business at the end of the day to them. But as a season ticket holder at the end of Vince’s tenure, I can tell you that Vince was booed so loudly at home games that they had to sub him off of the court at times. I can say that I cannot wait to be at Lowry and DeRozan’s one day. It’s going to be unreal in that arena!

  27. beefJeRKy-LB

I did not like how VC handled his exit but tbh we as a franchise can’t keep using his iconography and then not retire his jersey. Even if his tenure was not ideal, he probably had his most iconic career moments with us and it would be weird IMO for only the Nets to do so.
