For me, a traditional big is easy to define: Only operates under the basket. In offense, plays back to the basket and occasionally runs pick and rolls. All dunks, hooks and layups. Can't shoot for shit beyond the restricted area. In defense, hugely struggle when being switched on so will leave opponents wide open on the perimeter. That's a different definition from just a bruising 5. Traditional bigs are obsolete unless you are at superstar level. Bruising 5s are not obsolete.
